No, but they might correct their mistake. - blobzorz, on 10/12/2007, -10/+49I think they meant "Buy Apple Computer"
- PathDaemon, on 10/12/2007, -2/+39How about y'guys post when it gets changed, instead of when it's still the same?
- MioTheGreat, on 10/12/2007, -6/+41Wait. You can _buy_ music now? When did this happen?
- shtonkalot, on 10/12/2007, -3/+34More people would mistake it for a turd though.
- ymmy, on 10/12/2007, -11/+42Maybe amazon knows something we don't...
- noahhoward, on 10/12/2007, -15/+45If it was by Apple it wouldn't come in ***** brown.
Boring interface? Really Topher. - Thater, on 10/12/2007, -3/+31You realize that's inherently untrue? If it was voted onto the front page, then it is frontpage worthy. That's how Digg works.
- krewemaynard, on 10/12/2007, -3/+30As of now the story was posted 2 h 45 min ago. I just clicked on the link, and it still says Apple. :)
- bearda, on 10/12/2007, -4/+25Maybe, but it would work with the music you bought last year.
Amazon screws up listings all the time, particularly with reguards to release/publishing dates and publishers/manufacturers. I really don't think it was intentional. Someone was probably just told it was "Like an iPod" and listed it accordingly.
Andrew Beard - klawz, on 10/12/2007, -10/+30"Haha, the US calling us stupid... who's idea was Iraq again?" - our Britsh brothers were right there along with us, in the War. Not sure whre you're going with this.
- pathy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+17*Hands out the flame retardent suits in preparation.*
- noahhoward, on 10/12/2007, -4/+18Microsoft made something tht can play Mp3's and Radio... wow, that is thinking outside of the box. Next thing you know they'll come up with something that can play CDs too!
Not saying the tuner isn't useful but please people, microsoft hasn't come up with anything new or innovative in a long time. You can get mp3/fm units at walmart for 20 bucks. - superkendall, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13@leonbev:
Yes, a brown Zune will not be mistaken for an iPod. However you will always have to be on gaurd from it being buried in sand by cats. - fredclown, on 10/12/2007, -0/+118 hours 47 minutes ... it's fixed.
- unversed, on 10/12/2007, -4/+15I clicked the link and dugg you down :)
- capran, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10Maybe that's the shipping weight. But that's still heavy.
Then again, since they didn't have any other details, maybe it's a default value or just a guess. - mumbat, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10I'll have a spin on my ROFLCOPTER over this one.
- redrocker93, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10Whoa 1kg is quite heavy for a portable player (see screenshot)
- Stecchino, on 10/12/2007, -4/+12If that's what you think, then bury it and move on with your day.
- TJENN, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8As of 12:46PM CST, it has been corrected. No big deal or fuss, just kinda funny.
- feylanks, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Join the "Fanboy Labeling Is For Mental Midgets" army and restore rationality to the internet today!
- cbiz, on 10/12/2007, -1/+71200 diggs for a mistake.
- Thater, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7My iRiver H10 listens to the radio, and I can record it!
- leonbev, on 10/12/2007, -7/+13If I bought a Zune, I'd get the brown one! Less people would be mistake it for an iPod then.
- madmac625, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Even the Zune doesnt support some Windows Media DRM. Ever hear of PlaysForSure? Funny that it's Microsoft's baby, yet it doesn't work...
- Gatesophile, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4@cbiz
Well, that's digg for you. - superkendall, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Do you realize the boxed 60GB iPod today is 1lb total? 1KG = ~2 lbs, or twice the weight...
My guess is that the Zune weight is simply not known yet so there is a default of 1KG. Otherwise they must have tried to use lead instead of cardboard for the package. Or, the Zune comes with a bulky manual (which would not totally be a surprise). - alawson75, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5@madmac625
Imagine you created a DRM scheme and sold it to multitudes of industry 'partners' to incorporate into their devices so your proprietary format would work nicely. Then imagine if you yourself wanted to create a device to sell. How much of a backlash would you face if you sold this device with the same DRM scheme and competed against them. This was the big debate when the Zune project was conceived. Eventually they decided to not bite one of the hands that feeds them in order to make their device.
Ofcourse you could always strip the DRM off your own purchased media and use it on the Zune. Pain in the ass, yes, but doable. - paulryan21, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5I'm sure they'll have plenty of Zune's available - lots and lots of the Brown ones! What were they thinking !!!!
- brianb722, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Can't users add their own products to Amazon? I know you can with the US version.
- HMTKSteve, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Decimate means to reduce by 10%...
Did you mean to use annihilate? - cbiz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Good viral news for Zune.
- coolbru, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I can't wait for someone to produce the reverse of the "MS packaging the iPod" movie...
http://video.google.co.uk/videoplay?docid=36099539665548298&q=microsoft+ipod - SoundScape, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Not likely. However if it turned out to be true, I wouldn't be in the least bit surprised.
- captainmarvel, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Seriously, if I had $10 for every time someone made that "Put Wii / Ubuntu / Ajax in the title a bang! (extra for combining, guys!!)" joke, I'd be in the Forbes 400. It's like one step less trite than Why did the Chicken Cross the Road.
- zevgreen, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5Very funny! Next up, Ipod, now with Active Directory and Windows Media drm support!!
- alawson75, on 10/12/2007, -6/+7@noahhoward
But as a previous comment goes, you gotta give M$ a little credit for actually including FM radio, WiFi, ability to share your media with people nearby, and see video on a much larger screen. Can't do that with an iPod. I'd love to have a device that I could sync without a cable since I have WiFi at home.
In the portable player arena I'm not a fan of any one maker or product line, infact I don't even own any portable players. All my friends have either iPods or other items from Creative, etc and when I look at the iPod features there's just something that doesn't call out to me as being the best portable player. But if I were to go out today and buy something the Zune might be a better choice for flexibility. - GhostToon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1You and I share a similar sense of humor. Just think XBOX 360 by SONY. Will by Microsoft.
- Xoligy, on 10/12/2007, -28/+29Haha, the US calling us stupid... who's idea was Iraq again?
- M4cb0y, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1If you want radio so badly why don't you just buy the accessory for the iPod?
- kitykity, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1That was very awesome. Thanks for sharing!
- flag564, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Is this really all that big a deal? So Amazon screwed up their listing, some of you act as if there is some huge story about this, other than a weak opportunity to launch some more FUD against the Zune.
- superkendall, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2@alawson75:
Why should we give Microsoft credit for including features that the market has shown they do not want? I have no use for WiFi or FM in a portable music player. - EvolvedAnt, on 10/12/2007, -8/+8That's hardly a typo. Mcrosoft Corp. is a typo.
- Terc, on 10/12/2007, -7/+75 hours and still up
I would post when it changes, but considering the incraments have been over an hour each, I think we'll have a better idea of how long it stayed up by posting updates on how long it's been. - alloneword, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I know if I worked at amazon I would love messing with people and putting stuff like this up :)
- flag564, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2"Why should we give Microsoft credit for including features that the market has shown they do not want?"
You mean like the ability to play 20 year old video games is something people have been begging for? - superkendall, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1So it's better to instead release a device to decimate the whole PlaysForSure market instead of just competing with partners?
Furthermore, is it not a marketing blunder of epic proportations to undercut they very term "PlaysForSure" by making a device that such music cannot play on? What will Zune music be called, "Plays For Certain"?
I think it would be really funny for some poor sucker who has bought PlaysForSure media to sue Microsoft for misleading advertising. -
