- monkeyswitch, on 03/12/2008, -19/+317My name is Charlie, and Apple did this same thing to me. It was the Consumerist and Digg that helped me get Apple to finally notice me, so please digg this for Rhy.
- tehdinosaurs, on 03/12/2008, -3/+268It could be worse, he could have $1250 in Sharper Image gift cards.
- JLtheP, on 03/12/2008, -11/+273I don't understand why Apple would have this policy. It seems stupid to me.
- jaej, on 03/12/2008, -21/+156why would you have $1250 worth of gift cards in the first place
- aszymczyk, on 03/12/2008, -8/+128If you have an apple store near you they'll let you turn the gift cards into one big gift card.
- FatLoser, on 03/12/2008, -8/+119Yeah, imagine going through life with the name Rhys
- richlizard24, on 03/12/2008, -2/+108If you can do that then why is there a limit to begin with?
- thrikulam, on 03/12/2008, -21/+100Why Apple would rape their customers? Gee, I dunno...
- seanc6610, on 03/12/2008, -12/+83Apple has some serious problems with taking money (no cash for iPhones?), they're shooting themselves in the foot again.
- centerblack, on 03/12/2008, -2/+67http://www.apple.com/go/giftcards/faqs.html
It clearly states you can combine the balance of two cards into one. I would recommend he do this with a couple of cards and then make the transaction for the computer. - Calculon, on 03/12/2008, -3/+60You would probably use your 3 wishes to wish for more wishes, too...
- richlizard24, on 03/12/2008, -5/+61People talk into phones? I was under the impression that they were for texting only.
- johnlandes, on 03/12/2008, -6/+58because some people are too stupid to just give cash as a gift
I guess they think a gift card is more personal, like they made it themselves - rkho, on 03/12/2008, -10/+60Man, that sucks.
- Falldog, on 03/12/2008, -1/+48This seems to happen a lot, until the story gets wings and Apple steps in and tries to fix it. A mess that shouldn't have occurred in the first place.
- and303, on 03/12/2008, -5/+45$$$
- centerblack, on 03/12/2008, -2/+40Well they probably think saying "I'm giving this to you towards your computer! Yay!" is better than just giving you cash you're going to spend on alcohol and women, or more likely, gas money. :(
- inactive, on 03/12/2008, -16/+53Apple wouldn't let me buy my Mac Pro with 300,000 pennies in a jar. ***** *****. Go consumerist go!
- benman587, on 03/12/2008, -2/+34Except with giftcards they already have the money
- inactive, on 03/12/2008, -5/+37Maybe so, but people should not be forced to do that. Apple seems to think that everyone finds a trip to the Apple store as a VACATION.
- TheTSArt, on 03/12/2008, -7/+38My cousin was asking for Apple Gift Cards for his birthday so he could get a new Mac, and I remembered this story so I asked my local Apple Store, and the manager said he could bring in as many gift cards as he'd like and they'd turn them into a shiny new Mac. He also said that they could convert multiple gift cards into a single card, if he'd like also.
- andrew522, on 03/12/2008, -0/+30well he could afford half of the latest Ionic Breeze.
/exaggeration - JasonHaley, on 03/12/2008, -5/+35I logged in just to bury you, bingobongony, for negative bitching.
- moofer, on 03/12/2008, -0/+29Dude, don't shoot down the loophole I've had since I was like 4 years old.
- gincarnated, on 03/12/2008, -5/+33Did you not read the before/after pic correctly? Apple removed the "phone:no limit" part from their FAQ. Although it's possible that policy is still in effect for whatever reasons and apple just removed it so people wouldn't know about.
- tekhna, on 03/12/2008, -12/+39Apple customer policy has gotten really bad lately. A Hackintosh may be my next computer.
- thrikulam, on 03/12/2008, -3/+29Actually, I was referring to the actual process in which Apple salesmen rape their customers. Up the butt.
Sorry about the confusion. - zeblith, on 03/12/2008, -30/+56Nobody seems to be saying anything about the multiple standards in the policy:
Online: Max 4
Store: Max 6
Phone: No limit
So, despite the stupidity of the policy, why aren't people just calling in their order? - Vudell, on 03/12/2008, -1/+27what gave you the idea iTunes would sell the physical ipod?
- solidus636, on 03/12/2008, -2/+27Those sites will help raise awareness, so stop bitching.
- Sabazou, on 03/12/2008, -2/+25Thats why they are called iTunes cards
- Incosian, on 03/12/2008, -3/+25Words cannot describe the failure in your comment.
- richlizard24, on 03/12/2008, -3/+24Speaking of which...
- MadOgre, on 03/12/2008, -5/+26Apple tends to have some asinine elitist policies. Much like other companies such as CompUSA. This is what helps them get to the top... oh wait...
- inactive, on 03/12/2008, -5/+24Who gives, like, 200 dollar gift cards to Apple stores?
- daizaru, on 03/12/2008, -1/+20Clearly people need to be educated on the meanings of Before and After. That and reading the article, so if pictures with little diagrams don't work and people don't want to read either then what else can be done to get through to stupid people.
I want to really get some help for these 18+ people who are digging this guy up. - falcon707, on 03/12/2008, -4/+23The logic behind this makes NO sense at ALL! If I had 7 friends give me money, Apple would accept that with no problem! However, if 7 of my friends give me "Apple Money" they have a problem with that?! A giftcard is just another form of money (that is locked in to only 1 brand/store.) All this does is discourage people from buying your giftcards.
- monkeyswitch, on 03/12/2008, -0/+18Nope, goto their site and try it. You can purchase a gift card with credit card only.
- isendre, on 03/12/2008, -2/+19I have had this same problem last Christmas and it was fixed by an extremely friendly apple representative. I went to an apple store and asked them to use my 3 $100 gift cards for 1 $300 gift card and they did it for me, though I had to speak to the manager. So, even though it may not be policy, it is possible. I worked in retail for 6 years as a manager and if you have this same situation, just remember that even if it isn't their policy, you aren't trying to scam them and so they should do it. Be firm, but be polite!! and you should be golden.
- Tyrghast, on 03/12/2008, -13/+30WOOOO bad apple press! Eat this ***** up!
- samssf, on 03/12/2008, -1/+18RTFA. It can be done at a retail store. There are no retail stores at this guy's location.
- calvinw, on 03/12/2008, -7/+23Ridiculous.
- NicksVideo, on 03/12/2008, -0/+16"You can use up to four Apple Gift Cards on the Apple Online Store or if placing an order over the phone at 1-800-MY-APPLE. You can use up to six Apple Gift Cards for one transaction when you purchase at a retail Apple Store.
You can use up to four Apple Gift Cards along with a credit card for the same transaction in a retail Apple Store, on the online Apple Store, and over the phone from 1-800-MY-APPLE."
http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/A ... - centerblack, on 03/12/2008, -0/+15After looking at the article again, the problem is that this person has "no access" to a retail Apple Store... So yea, that sucks..
- EXreaction, on 03/12/2008, -1/+16Gift cards should be banned. They are simply a scam.
People should either give cash or get a prepaid credit card. Nothing worse than getting a $100 Best Buy gift card. What am I going to get at Best Buy for $100 when everything is marked up 50% more than it is online? - inactive, on 03/12/2008, -0/+14It's pronounced Reece
- moofer, on 03/12/2008, -1/+15If you parents were smart, they'd restrict your internet access - you're clearly no good at the internets.
- inactive, on 03/12/2008, -5/+18Screw Apple.
- and303, on 03/12/2008, -10/+23Typical Apple *****. Reasons like these are why I stopped buying their products.
BUT...she could've just called the 800 number with her order number instead of making a huge fuss about it. That's not too much to ask I guess. - HonoredMule, on 03/12/2008, -0/+13Oh you can totally talk into them. Just like a mouse.
