- slimnickyy, on 10/12/2007, -3/+47Stickers do not equal the world's first carbon fibre macbook.
- DeathBorn, on 10/12/2007, -3/+45Looks cool, but it won't stop it from breaking. The title is innacurate: it should say "Carbon fiber MacBook sticker."
- isewise, on 10/12/2007, -1/+22This is kinda inaccurate. Its just stickers. I was hoping it was real carbon fiber, not just stickers.
- totorototoro, on 10/12/2007, -0/+21So basically its the World's First Carbon Fiber Pattern Printed Vinyl Covered MacBook?
- trghpy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+23Its easy to get vinal stickers custom made if you live in a decent sized city.
I double dog dare someone to make a true fiber case mod. - Guitarsenal, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14I hate fake carbon fiber stickers. That stuff looks nothing like carbon fiber. It has none of the 3D sheen and iridescence of true carbon fiber.
- skoles, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13Yea, I work at a vinyl shop and this CF vinyl he put on looks far from the real thing. It's just a rectangle patter of silver, black and dark grey. Looks cheesy up close.
Real carbon fiber, if you've never seen it, has a 3D quality about it. - merdiesel, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14World's first DS made out of fire!

- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7title's a little innaccurate, it's just a stupid sticker
- jsreid, on 10/12/2007, -5/+11I'll stick with my painters tape powerbook
http://www.jsreid.com/bluelaptop.jpg - dustedbunny, on 10/12/2007, -5/+10Original story: http://christianemail.blogspot.com/2006/12/worlds-first-carbon-fiber-macbook.html
" Long story short. I was at the automotive store looking for something completely different for my car (which cost less than my Mac) and I came across this stuff called "Carbon Graphix". If you aren't familiar with it, it's a vinyl sticker material that looks like real carbon fiber and it is quite durable. I had a light bulb come on in my head. This stuff can be removed, it's not paint, its tough, and it won't void my warranty. The reason that it saves the warranty is that you don't have to disassemble anything to put it on."

- grinin, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5The carbon fiber made it 25% faster!
- grapetonic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4@jsreid
Wow! That's one ugly looking Powerbook. - ez12a, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Looks like Pep-boys fake Carbon Fiber.
Gives me a headache.
Not good enough for "world" recognition. Someone wrap one with REAL CF and i'll be impressed. - brstilson, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4"The sticker can be easily applied and removed from your MacBook to give it that MacBook Pro look."
That looks NOTHING like a MacBook Pro.
Inaccurate title, it's carbon fauxber - duhblow7, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Yah, he pretty much said it's a sticker.
Not real CF. Dugg down, inaccurate. - russianmonkey, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Not the first "carbon fibre" notebook... its a damn sticker.
Story buried as innaccurate. - Character0, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2If I spray mine gold is it then the first solid gold macbook?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2hey i have that laptop + skin combo too :p, looks killer dont it :D
inspiron 6400/e1505 for those who didn't know, normally its silver but they sell clip on skins for the screen to make it look better :p - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2That first picture on the link is pretty kick ass though.
- ctour95, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3It is a giant sticker on a macbook... This made it to the front page how? I marked this as lame - sorry.
/Mac user - adamkmccarthy, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5this was on the homepage less than 48hrs ago wasn't it? dupe........
do a search for "carbon mac", you'll get 3, all submitted in the last 2 days. This is the third one, and second from the same source. The original is this one;
http://www.digg.com/mods/Worlds_First_Carbon_Fiber_Macbook - IanBell330, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Missleading title, its a sticker not real carbon fiber. I am tired of national enquirer titles making the front page. Dugg down.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4"Vinal"?
You're kidding me, right? - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Buried inaccurate, its a sticker!
- Dpack1, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Seeing as this idea was taken from the automotive industry, and in the automotive industry everyone knows that by adding stickers to your car gives you approximately 3-5hp per sticker... Well surely this laptop must run twice as fast with all that carbon fiber now?
- tnwake, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"So if it's not for weight savings or increased strength, then admit it, it's all about "The Look"."
Well yeah, that's all Mac's are good for... "It's can't do *****, but it comes in eleventy billion different colors! Wow!!" - vashmyvindows, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Black is exactly $50 more, when the white and black are matched spec-wise (bigger HDD).
- blog302, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3haters, you can hate as much as you want but that macbook looks cool i must say.
- gfnw, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1That's terrible. If you really want to cover your laptop in vinyl, at least do what someone above suggested and get a full wrap of a nice design made up. Those "carbon fiber" stickers look tacky and aren't fooling anyone.
- gr8edchz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It occurred to me after seeing this that you might be able to take your mac or just about any computer laptop or otherwise down to your local sign company (FastSigns, etc.) and they could do a full vinyl wrap of just about anything you could digitally create and print. I haven't tried this personally and have no idea how they might react or what they would want to charge you. But, if they can wrap an entire bus it seems like they could do your computer.
- D3koy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3when crappy import tuners meet Mac books.... I marked the article as inaccurate and the project as "waste of time and money plus it looks really dumb"
one more thing:
I want to see the inside, and did the heat wrapping hurt the screen? - paulsmerdon, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2What is it about carbon fibre that makes it look so cool?
Although it's just a sticker I think it looks great. There were some rumors a while back about Apple expirementing with carbon fibre for use in PowerBooks.
If it was real carbon fibre I would buy one in an instant. - samuelcotterall, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Boy racers (in the UK at least) have been putting carbon fiber print over their dashboards and centre consoles for years. It's horrible stuff and not very hard wearing.
Does it really matter what colour your computer is? - sirsquirrelly, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3and 3lbs lighter !
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1about six years ago i wanted to buy really nasty looking fake wood to cover my laptop, but in the end forgot about it. so whilst i don't think this guy is original, i do think he's done a neat job
white mac owners: you can use alcohol based permanent marker on the case, and wipe it right off with alcohol. just make sure you test it first - gib786, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1oh and here are links to the actual pictures:

And I saw a Painters Tape laptop... Where is the Duct Tape Love? - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1now that looks goddamn sweet,
shame its just a vinyl sticker tho, but still awesome looking :) - t3hX, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1OK... WTF is with the picture of him in the top left corner.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'm with IanBell. Dugg down for leading me to believe that it was a really cool new Macbook made from carbon fiber. Instead it ended up being 'computer rice'..a damn sticker over it.
- MaverickMac, on 02/07/2009, -0/+0I carbon Fiber and i wanted to see how many people would atleast would like a carbon fiber mac book case, like the hard outer shell ones, but made of REAL carbon fiber, not stickers? I will eventually get to making the lids and bottoms out of carbon fiber!
- gib786, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1it looks tacky, i wouldnt mind having a carbon fibre macbook but only if it was actually carbon fibre and not this crap vinyl stuff. ive messed around with both the proper stuff with the 3m adhesive backing and the vinyl and whilst the proper stuff is a bitch to cut and mould it just feels and looks right
- proradium, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It actually wouldn't be too difficult to make a real carbon fiber macbook. I have a spare macbook pro sitting behind me here (doused it with a glass of water ...). All you'd have to do is take it apart until you only have the casing, take a fiberglass mould of the casing and then build the carbon fiber components from the moulds. Heck, if you're really ambitious you could do each and every key as well. About the only thing I'm not sure about is the touchpad. and the battery.
- codyman, on 10/12/2007, -4/+4It actually looks pretty good
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1He's upset cuz he never got to the front page.
waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhh baby, wahhhhhhh. - monkeyfart, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I wonder if the haters are those that can't afford a Macbook, or the people that have been bitching because all they could afford was girly white or even worse a Dell. Give the guy some credit for being creative. He said about ten times in his blog that this is a sticker. It is to make his look different and not void his warranty at the same time. You freaks are talking about casting your own CF and stuff LMAO. At least that guy did something instead of just running his yap about what someone else should have done and what he would have done. Looks good Rogotoko. You haters are posers hahaha.
- vistadrumz06, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0If anyone is reading about this anymore, I agree these carbon fiber stickers aren't fooling anyone. They had some coolness before, they were widely used in the automotive industry and what not. To me they look tacky and not that great. So thats why, I'm currently working on real carbon fiber for my Powerbook G3 Firewire (otherwise known as Pismo). I'm in the process right now of making an overlay for the middle rubber section on this Powerbook, if any of you know what I'm talking about. There was a guy that used a vinyl sticker for the middle and although it does look good and I give him credit for that, it gave me ideas to actually make a carbon fiber panel and then a whole carbon fiber case. After that I plan to actually make a full and working case out of carbon fiber for the whole laptop, possibly including batteries, optical drives, my wireless apple keyboard and mighty mouse, however for these extras, it will be time and money permitting this summer, before I'm back to college again. When I get done with this project I plan to make a blog or something to show the results or even have one for a worklog throughout the project.
