- chetanthaker, on 07/24/2008, -6/+38Just jailbreaking. No Unlocking....
- stickywheelz, on 07/24/2008, -0/+21I know this isn't a post on unlocking. But could someone explain the significance or need of an unlocking app seeming as you have to enter a 2 year contract with AT&T in order to even take the phone out of the store?
- adambadam, on 07/24/2008, -0/+14Also, if you ever do international travel, users like to pop in foreign sim cards to get better rates, especially on data when abroad.
- cyberwiz01, on 07/24/2008, -0/+12I hate that it's now pronounced "pone" Back in the good old days we just said "owned" and that made a lot more sense.
- Andrwmorph, on 07/24/2008, -0/+11I'll probably still hold off another month or so to wait for more apps to get ported to 2.0
- MarianaPeyton, on 07/24/2008, -0/+7That is why it says Windows iPhone 3G Jailbreak tool released and not Windows iPhone 3G Unlock tool released.
- InuX, on 07/24/2008, -2/+9This doesn't work yet. When you try to build a custom firmware it crashes. Wait until later today when he releases an updated version.

- Bizarrkley, on 07/24/2008, -0/+7Why is this being Dugg down? I wanna know too!
- inactive, on 07/24/2008, -1/+8http://digg.com/apple/Download_WinPWN_2_0_for_iPho ...
- anthonybruno, on 07/24/2008, -0/+6not to mention the fact that you cant have apps that actually alter the way the iphone works.. ie.. smart shuffle.. widgets on the desktop..
- Nothlit, on 07/24/2008, -0/+6I would wager that nobody is doing what you described yet, because if you cancel your contract within the first 30 days, you have to return the phone. After 30 days, you can cancel and keep the phone, but you pay the $175 ETF (and your first month's bill).
- Zcott, on 07/24/2008, -0/+6Yep!
- Zcott, on 07/24/2008, -0/+5They are?
- teh_techie, on 07/24/2008, -0/+5*****... $175 is getting away cheap! Here's rogers ECF:
The ECF is the greater of (ii) $100 or (iii) $20 per month remaining in the service agreement, to a maximum of $400 (plus applicable taxes), and applies on each line in the plan that is terminated.
Since the terms are 3 years... you can clearly see Canadians are raped into keeping their service. - Annix, on 07/24/2008, -0/+4No unlocking - just jailbreaking. Means you can install whatever you want on the phone.
- Zcott, on 07/24/2008, -0/+4It unlocks the 2.0 software on 1st gen (i.e., non-3G) iPhones, too.
- Annix, on 07/24/2008, -0/+4I tried this earlier - it worked on my 3G (no bricking, woo!), but I'm in the UK and it seemed to screw up my cell connection to O2 (just showed no signal). Anyone else find this? I've restored for now as I rather like having the phone part... ;)
- AhrenBa, on 07/24/2008, -8/+12Will this work for the iPod touch?
- maverick999, on 07/24/2008, -0/+4Another mirror: http://theiphoneproject.org/index.php/downloads
- mattvogt, on 07/24/2008, -0/+4Because the Community Source apps were much more diverse (and about 95% free). Those with jailbroken phones have been able to take video (novel, I know) for about 6 months now. Oh and custom themes, icons, etc.
- ds|tan, on 07/24/2008, -0/+4Not all apps are approved by apple, they restrict many many good apps because they want to keep the monopoly on features. Theres also submission policies that app makers have to adhere to, the jailbroken phone would allow for all the apps that apple blocks to be distributed and hence it is a win for consumers.
- ScionX, on 07/24/2008, -1/+4What is this? Unlocking? The site doesn't really give any information about what it does.
- teh_spazz, on 07/24/2008, -0/+3Check macrumors. People are having problems.
- LukeBeaumont, on 07/24/2008, -0/+3Cool, although I wont be jailbreaking for atleast a month until some good apps come out.
- inactive, on 07/24/2008, -0/+3LOL you got dugg down PWND!
- xsecretfiles, on 07/24/2008, -0/+3I'm hoping this will accelerate the process into getting apps through Cydia for developers..
I can't wait any longer!!!!!!!!!! - asskicker32, on 07/24/2008, -0/+3Aww crap. So you mean I went through 4 hours yesterday downgrading, unlocking, upgrading, unlocking my friend's iphones could have been saved by wating a day? dammit!
- amenic, on 07/24/2008, -0/+3Welcome to the 21st Century - please enjoy your stay!
- LukeBeaumont, on 07/24/2008, -0/+3It will take one week at the longest for 2.1 to be hacked and jailbroken.
- PacketScan, on 07/24/2008, -1/+4http://rapidshare.com/files/132009636/winpwn_2.0.0 ...
- AhrenBa, on 07/25/2008, -0/+3Ok, I think it should:
http://lifehacker.com/399198/jailbreak-iphone-20-o ... - drugsrbadmmk, on 07/24/2008, -0/+3Plus naughty apps that apple would never approve of. I
- anthonybruno, on 07/24/2008, -1/+4nope. apple has that sdk locked up like a newborns *****.
- digichris, on 07/25/2008, -0/+3http://www.iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=157 ...
Link to download 2.0.0.2 and a tutorial for winXP. - highPhone, on 07/24/2008, -0/+2@Nothlit: I paid $600 for my first iPhone. I'm in Canada, so I had to pay full price + border smuggling + unlock (noob at the time). Trust me, there are people willing to pay. I remember when iPhones were going for $1200 on eBay.
@tech_techie: Canadians get raped in the ass every day by rogers... makes me wanna just set fire to their buildings and watch them burn. - inactive, on 07/24/2008, -0/+2What magical phone do you use then that lets you do whatever the ***** you want to it without a 3rd party hack? They're all just as locked down as the iPhone, so that they can charge you for things that should be free like ringtones and text messages.
- inactive, on 07/24/2008, -1/+3I think the south park world of warcraft episode is singlehandedly responsible for changing the pronunciation from "own" to "pone".
- spookyttws, on 07/24/2008, -0/+2I don't know, in the last few days alone, I've installed 4 or 5 apps, customization is happening more and more. Whoever this bigboss guy/team is, they're working overtime.
I've got an NES emulator, A carrier name changer, a notepad color changer (something I didn't have on earlier versions), Swaptunes, Pacman, an Icon hider, and a nice 'BossPref' which is a lot like Customize, not to mention a bunch of SSL, python, PHP and SQl tools that help on the backend. - inactive, on 07/24/2008, -1/+3Windows programmers have no sense of aesthetics and no taste at all.
- kohoutec, on 07/24/2008, -0/+2Plenty of phones allow 3rd party Java apps. My SE k850i does, and so did all the SE handsets I owned before it. Hate the bloody phone but that's another story :)
- inactive, on 07/24/2008, -0/+2Spoken like a true Windows user. You expect your software to look like it was designed by some hick in a dirty wifebeater and a NASCAR baseball cap who's sitting on a lawn chair and nursing a warm can of bud light. Yee-haw!!!
- Twoje, on 07/25/2008, -0/+2I always said "poon"...
- Zcott, on 07/24/2008, -0/+2It needs jailbroken so that it can be activated for anyone not on the official carriers.
- Zcott, on 07/24/2008, -0/+2A bit of hacking never did anyone any harm! :P
- teh_techie, on 07/24/2008, -0/+2I thought when you purchase from the lost/stolen pool, you pay still less then normal, but have to take another hit on your contract length..
- leetninja, on 07/24/2008, -2/+4When will we see unlock?!
- speaker219, on 07/24/2008, -1/+3winpwn.com is down, here's a mirror of the site (with the instructions, as well as the download)
http://etc.k4r1m.com/2.0/?#winpwn - amenic, on 07/25/2008, -0/+2Not sure why you guys are digging up an unfinished tutorial...
Here is one that is finished:
http://www.iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=157 ... - amenic, on 07/24/2008, -0/+2Heh - the tutorial isn't finished. Hope that you can figure it out after he tells you to put it into DFU mode.
