- theone3, on 10/12/2007, -8/+41I don't want to sound like a naysayer here, because I really do believe it's only a matter of time, but there is still the possibility that this is just a video playing full screen.
Also, here's a mirror/direct file link: http://clips1.vimeo.com.nyud.net:8080/video_files/2006/03/15/vimeo.74487.mov - bubs, on 10/12/2007, -1/+33Here is a youtube link for those that can't get to the original.
http://youtube.com/watch?v=nzH6OFpXgzI - silver, on 10/12/2007, -7/+33This question have been more than adequately answered *every single time* we have a posting here on Digg about getting Windows XP on Mac.
For the final time:
1. There are a lot of Windows only applications.
2. The Apple hardware is excellent quality.
3. Many people don't want to "risk" a large amount of money on buying a Mac with no fallback option (booting Windows) for things.
4. If you want to play games on a PC, then you'll need Windows.
5. Dual boot into the operating system that is the best for the job.
6. 99% of the western world uses Windows. In a lot of cases, it's helpful if you do too. - bumfilter, on 10/12/2007, -2/+24If it is all true and he gets the $12,000 or so, I hope he buys a nice digital camera.
- Milamber, on 10/12/2007, -4/+21Seriously... get over it. If you don't understand it by now, chances are that you never will. Just accept there are people who (for whatever reason) want to do this.
Here is something I don't understand. There have been SO MANY posts like yours and just as many replies as to why people want/need to be able to do this but somehow there are still the same questions popping up.
WHY!???! For the love of all that is right and good.... I just don't get it. - DMCau, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14I'm convinced.
Here's a mirror:
http://dmc.filecloud.com/files/file.php?user_file_id=126033 - goodcompany, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14The general disarray of narf's working environment is all the confirmation I need.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+17he needs a damn tripod.
- srusso, on 10/12/2007, -2/+14I have an iMac here at work just like that one... it does that when you turn it on, so what i think your seeing is the very first parts of the iMac booting. They hangout for a sec befor the light comes on. i know for a fact it does that b/c i have seen it myself
- stoops, on 10/12/2007, -6/+17Why are you idiots asking WHY? If you don't want to run Windows on your Mac then you ***** don't have to. This is for the people who constantly say, "But OS X can't run any of the latest games or applications that Windows can"
Well guess what, they can't say that anymore, thats the beauty of it, now people don't have a reason to hate macs! You can now play the latest and greatest games on a mac AND get some work done on OS X. It's just gonna be interesting to see if people are gonna wanna put Windows and OS X on their Mac hardware or PC hardware.
Anyways, good job narf. - GeniusCube, on 10/12/2007, -3/+14IMHO this is all a bit much for a hoax, he has even taken on testers and submitted it for the prize.
- illynova, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11watch very carefully. About 1/3 of the way through, after rebooting with the windows logo (Where the hell did that come from? Windows doens't show that), notice how the camera moves backward away from the screen until for you can't see the screen for a split second. Notice a slight change in orientation and speed as he moves BACK toward the monitor, and now all of asudden its showing the windows installer.
Interesting, no? How hard is it to change the background boot image to a windows logo? and then start up vmware, run windows on it, and splice those two back together?
Also interesting to note the very beautiful windows logo. that sure as hell isn't in the standard installation, and why is it there now?
I call bs. - r3zonance, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Yeah but there isn't really anything special about, that you could do it before. It was native and linux HAS EFI support.
Windows XP (and now Vist) are the challenges.
Besides less people care about linux than Windows :D - davdav, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Some people need to run it natively for their work and VirtualPC/VMWare just doesn't cut it
Not to mention gaming (I don't do that, I am just saying) - clos, on 10/12/2007, -4/+10i dont think u understand the concept of what was IN the video
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8I have uploaded a .Torrent here: http://exe64.com:6969/

http://mark0.net/onlinetrid.aspx - r3zonance, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8When the machine is off, so is the light.
- TheAttacks, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8looks great, but the video quality is horrible. so much so that you can't really see the system specs when the camera zooms in on them.
- Trjn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6That would be very impractical, and you wouldn't get a few things acting as they did.
I'm willing to believe this is the real deal, the only problem I have though is that the competition required the ability to dual boot, and whilst he demonstrated that he could boot to windows (or at least, he finished the WinXP installation process and went straight into it), he didn't show the dual booting function.
I'm not saying it isn't there, I just wanted to see it. - jumpertk, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6To Stealthboy it wouldn't be like replacing the engine it would be more like being able to run gasoline or an alternative fuel. Your not changing the hardware you changing what the hardware can run on. Giving people the choice to use more than one "fuel" to run their mac allows them to run 1 box. A lot of people dual box windows and Linux so it makes total sense in the mac world too.
- magneticpigeon, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Instructions????! But it looks good.
- RatBagu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5It may be his special program to interface between the EFI and the BIOS recognition that Windows has on bootstrap.
- feylanks, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6stop using that ***** analogy. really want a car analogy then? this would be like having a car that can run on both petrol and natural gas. ITS FLEXIBLE. when you can't find the natural gas that you want to use more, you can fallback and use the standard petrol. FIN~
- Deekman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Why can these brilliant hackers reverser engineer and then break a product so well but cannot film for crap.. they all do it.
Other than that though it looks legit if I can get a Dual boot mac' I'd buy one. - moofree, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I bet it's the modded EFI bootloader.
- ruimoura, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I will correct what i said before.
After watching the movie fram by frame (in the System properties part) it never shows up the processor (CPU). Neither in System properties neither on the device manager.
It's too interesting to see that the important parts where not shown (who does something like that has a digital camera, and shows it properly to other people).
So i have 100% sure this is completely fake right now.
Please prove me i'm wrong (i would really like to be wrong) ... - Livert, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Now watch as iMacs get sold out all over the world.
- RatBagu, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6How about a screenshot instead?
http://www.engadget.com/2006/02/16/linux-boots-on-intel-imacs/ - Milamber, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Usually something you would associate with Professor Chaos though!
Just me? Oh well... - neosublime, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Think of running windows on a mac like a car... a car that can fly to the moon, or go under water. When you want to go to the movies and your date says, "What kind of gas are you using?", you can simply reply... "Look bitch... this car fly to the ***** moon, or go under water, and you want to ask me what kind of gas it uses?"
And that's what it would be like. - elroy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5from m-w: IRONY: 3 a (1) : incongruity between the actual result of a sequence of events and the normal or expected result
given that you'd expect to see the apple logo when booting an imac, it's perfectly fine to say it's ironic that the windows logo shows up instead.
an example of a situation mistaken for irony: a few days ago miss deaf texas was struck and killed by a train, because she didn't hear it coming. - SectorNation, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6Great. Now run it in a window so I don't have to turn off OS X just to use Visio! ;)
- hater2win, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I'm convinced. It looks genuine to me.
- rudinz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3narf2006 aka blanka: A solution has been sent to Colin and is awaiting review. You'll soon be booting XP on an iMac!
http://forum.onmac.net/showthread.php?p=329 - blocguy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Hehe, I saw that Windows logo appear where the Apple logo should be and just imagined some sort of horror music coming on in the background :).
- M4tt3r, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4If it helps I can make out the "Genuine Intel" part of the system specs, only in the .mov posted though.
- rudinz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3uploaded the vid to Google....waiting for verification....will let u know once its done....
- M4tt3r, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5I'm ignorant to this, but is it at all possible to hollow out the iMac and put a normal PC in it, so it then looks like what we see? Or just use the apple monitor on a normal PC.
I'm just bringing these to light even thought I'm sure it's pointless.
What makes me think it's real, is I've never seen that Windows logo in the middle of the screen during the install process before, that's new to me. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5now we wait for the howto.
- rageguy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Looks very convincing, I still wont hold my breath until its been independently confirmed and there are instructions floating around the net. It's interesting that the Windows installer works correctly, it suggests it _may_ be an unmodified stock standard copy of Windows on a modified Mac. Which would be excellent, if so there would be hope for other operating systems to be easily installable. :-)
Very good news. - pcronin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I don't know... the upscaling poor quality on this vid make it really hard to read. the lack of autofocus is a factor there too..
Of course, the thought of getting my pretty iMac infected with a lowly windows virus... shudder
I would be happy about this, as it would convince my boss to get me that macbook pro finally :)
I don't see it a bad thing to put either OS on either platform.
Choice is always a good thing. Maybe I like OS X, and the apple design, but need *native* XP for whatever reason. (don't ask, just hypothetical) - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3http://forum.onmac.net/showpost.php?p=344&postcount=5
Solution has been received and testing is now underway by the following people:

- neosublime, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3In the video, why does he have a maxtor drive. My 20" mactel has a Western Digital. Does Apple use both, or did he swap the drive?
- SAOSiN, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3If this is real and theres a not so complicated way to doing this, I'll sell my PC and buy a mac right now.
- whistle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3How come not a single shot of imac booting on tiger??
- soundguy24, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4"there is vmware for mac. use Q emulator and install windows on top of it. but the point of this is to dualboot"
--is there vmware for INTEL mac? - dyelton, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Battery device shows up even when there is no battery compartment. This is true for all Windows boxes.
