- reddevil3, on 10/12/2007, -2/+25I doubt it since all the iTunes videos were upgraded to 640 X 480 instead of a widescreen format.
They wouldn't want to update the videos again in just a few months. - tekmonkey, on 10/12/2007, -2/+15I'm starting to think all iPod rumors should automatically be marked as innacurate. :-/
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13that would cost soo much more then an ipod!
- jrbrewin, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8oh god. please. stop with the rumours already.. we're not even out of the week of an apple press conference and already the gears of ***** are turning.
- fogelbaby, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Another rumour, but it would be nice. The only thing that makes a lot of sense is that Jobs might hold the release of the new device to match the time that the Zune is released. I'm sure he would love to just stick in their ribs.
- sakuraz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5`But the sound quality sucks, the OS sucks, and it does not have an automated syncing program like iTunes.
Trust me, I've used PDAs for more than 5 years.
It sucks.
I bought one starting from Cassiopeia E-125, and up to O2 XDA2, but it always stood that, Pocket PC, and now Windows Mobile, SUCKS.
I can't possibly accentuate enough the problems Microsoft has BRED by making this standard that's not even fit for the purposes set by itself...
oh, and did I mention it's EXPENSIVE? - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6I really don't think it will. I'm not saying that because I just replaced my broken 4G with the latest 5G iPod. I'm saying that because we expected the widescreen to be out in April, then heard that "scratch" and "touch" issues had to be dealt with. Then we heard that this LAST announcement was going to have the Video iPod.
The fact of the matter is, we're still a ways away from the new iPod. It'd be *great* to nail the holiday season, but, like the previous poster said, they'd have to do a new video upgrade to WIDESCREEN instead of 640x480.
I expect it in January, since my student discount will be expired and I always get screwed by Apple's product announcements :) - Appleologist, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7Yeah, a "One More Thing" special event will take place sometime this fall just like last year.
- rhost, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7They have probably already transcoded it in both formats, and will just offer widescreen along side the 640x480 offerings
- phpfreak, on 10/12/2007, -5/+8I know it's a dupe, but this link actually works.
- MrBabyMan, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Widescreen iPod out by the end of the year? Great, just in time for Duke Nukem Forever!
- thenamestj, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Stop it!
- phpfreak, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3what?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Vaporware....I now know that these showtime events are nothing but hype.
- dag68, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Also, wasn't the Nano released pretty shortly after the 6mb upgrade to the Mini?
There is pent up demand for a real Video Ipod, at least in my apartment! - D4r7h3v1l, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Interesting theory, and it brings up an interesting point.
Apple would be crazy to release an upgrade to the iPod line as a "one more thing" so soon after this latest upgrade. If you remember last yearl, the nano was not an upgrade to the iPod line, it was the beginning of a new line (or replacement of the iPod mini line). If Apple does release one this year, it will probably be either completely separate from iPod or, more likely, a new iPod PVP line. THis is further supported by the release of TV shows in 640x480, which would require a device to have a 4:3 display (ideally), and therefore need to be larger in order to be a real upgrade. - Daiken, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Awww what bs! I waited off buying early this year cause of the widescreen rumours. Then waited patiently to not get it then, or this September. The battery life extension was good though. I thought I'd just go buy the 80 gig one right now, but now i've started doubting it again after reading this. I WANT THE WIDESCREEN!
- flag564, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Mix one part "old rumor". Add two parts "new release date" and 5 parts BS. Bake for 400 Diggs, Serve "news" story warm!
- smazany, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Damn it! I just bought one of the 5.5G iPods because my old one broke... I guess it is going to have to go back to the store if Apple is really planning to screw me over by updating the iPod 1.5 months after they just updated the iPod.
- osage, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I dont believe it. It takes to much energy. It doen not fit in the tiny space, and the touchscreen it very experimental.
And try to fit in the iPhone as well?
sorry guys, i want to believe but i don't. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@liquidrums
They told me at the Apple store today that there is no educational discounts for the current gen of iPods. Lovely. - macnerd, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Some of the movies from the iTunes store are widescreen. When I open up Bicentennial Man in Quicktime Player and get info it's 640x344.
- prcpaul, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2ugh, great, just when I was gonna buckle and buy the new G5 ipod.
Looks like I'm waiting longer. - sam10685, on 10/12/2007, -5/+6i think it will... especially before christmas.
- sqwerty, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@HornyGoat
Wasnt the video iPod released just months after the color upgrade to the 4G?
Or am I getting my years mixed up? :D
Anyways, I just sold my 2GB nano to help pay for the WS iPod..or the iTV - newtype1089, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1well if it really is a new line as opposed to a 6g ipod then it doesnt sound so crazy rather it might be a 1g Ipod Video
- kolop1, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2 I have been hearing about this New been for a while now. Stop with the rumors and just wait until it comes out.
- cbiz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1OMG that is a good comment. Hope?
- jrbrewin, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2a man after my own thinking. ;)
- rasterbator, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1flickr.com has pictures of it:

- brownboy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1buddy, i think you meen GB
- rasterbator, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Digg should make punctuation illegal in all titles on the site. Period.
- paulisnotdead, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1If there is everyones gonna be pissed
- sakuraz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1music syncing and manual file syncing is different.
You CANNOT use your pda as an external storage device.
You CAN with an iPod.
and since we're talking about music, NO you CANNOT compare PDA's quality with an iPod - siglesias, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2price drop + higher rez = room for new ipods
nuff said - HornyGoat, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1This is a complete load of crock. Theres no way in the world Apple would go to the trouble of releasing a revised 80gig iPod 5th generaton to be obsolete in a couple of months and piss off heaps of customers.
- lopla, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2They better not release the new iPod before Christmas. If they do Ballmer will go into such a rage he would most certainly have a heart attack. Eventhough the Toshiba Zune is D.O.A. the 6G iPod before christmas will make the Toshiba Zune a rotting corpse. LMAO.
- Daiken, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Oooh, Bicentennial Man...that's a good movie.
- kolop1, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1 Nah why would he release it at the same time as the Zune. Then there would be 2 options out there. If anything release it before the Zune before there is any real competition for it.
- phpfreak, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Exactly. They left the $399 price-point open, and upgraded video quality. They also didnt crop the movies into 4:3 like they did with widescreen TV shows...
- NyteStarNyne, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2I think i'll buy the 30GB Model for now instead of the 80GB since I may be tempted to upgrade once again later this year.
- vertigo16, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Yea the pics are a load of rubbish if you pay attention closely there's not touch sensitive screen, and that's the only reason its been delayed for months!
- bmc2010, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2"Since when does Apple release anything in time for the holiday season? Everything new always comes out in January at the big show. If anything, the holidays are how they clear out old inventory." -From some user's comment on that article
Also, when does the "One More Thing" event occur (what day/month/year)? - StrikerF35, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I agree. But, that's not as sensationalist. You don't get diggs for making accurate titles. It's kind of like mainstream news.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1nope...just a brighter screen. You think that Jew would give you what you REALLY want??? It`s called planned , rapid , obsolescence.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3Wayyyy more flexible though!
- jrbrewin, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1"`But the sound quality sucks, the OS sucks, and it does not have an automated syncing program like iTunes."
sound quality sucks... on what. the ipod? and at least a pda of any sort has an operating system - in terms of putting what you like on there - and not being restricted to things that fuddy duddy jobs thinks are cool. Last time i checked, every pda offered synching. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1A question mark at the end of the title would have been a little more accurate...
- Trapped, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Since I just bought a new 80GB model, it is a sure bet that something new and better will come out shortly to make me regret not waiting. The same exact thing happened to me last year with the "One More Thing" announcement. I just can't learn.
