- away8907, on 01/08/2008, -3/+172MacWorld is going to be hosted in an underwater iceberg?
- theMcPatriot, on 01/08/2008, -1/+130Very nice visual communication there.
- shanghainobody, on 01/08/2008, -2/+72Dugg for the iceberg demonstration.
- MacParrot, on 01/08/2008, -1/+64Microsoft isn't going away. MS doesn't have to die for Apple to do well. Let it go.
- chroko, on 01/08/2008, -3/+61...and it's confirmed: Steve Jobs is the baddie in the next James Bond movie.
"Mr. Bond... just one more thing... boom!" - laserob, on 01/08/2008, -4/+51...except when they don't.
- ChrisXof, on 01/08/2008, -3/+46Agreed! It's not a major MacPro udpate really... I am holding it for the "One more thing..."
- Po0py, on 01/08/2008, -4/+39Apple always does this. They have a main focus for Macworld and any other products they have they release a week earlier just so the don't steal any attention from the shiny new products at Macworld.
- onClipEvent, on 01/08/2008, -1/+26that's a pretty looking iceberg...
- monkeyrun, on 01/08/2008, -0/+21Apple keeps consumer products off WWDC, but they never keep anything from MacWorld on purpose.
- MacParrot, on 01/08/2008, -3/+23Digg comments. When you care enough to troll the very best
- sapped, on 01/08/2008, -4/+24So in this analogy is Microsoft the Titanic?
- IslandSaint, on 01/08/2008, -1/+17I am still hoping for an updated Airport Express. Updated wireless speed, ability to plug in an external hard drive, printer capability and AirTunes. Maybe a lower price tag would be nice too.
- BossKey, on 01/08/2008, -2/+16Look closer. Apple IS the iceberg...
- FredFredrickson, on 01/08/2008, -0/+13...because you felt like an underscore would be better than a question mark_
- cawpin, on 01/08/2008, -0/+9That would kind of like launching it in the US and then dropping the price drastically after two months...
- kindwarrior, on 01/08/2008, -1/+9I may be wrong, perhaps Apple has a MacWorld announcement that will be so big they have no desire to build up to it with these announcements. If this is true it will be a near coup de grâce against the consumer Windows market but I'm thinking we are seeing a strategic move (an important, interesting and surprising strategic move) in a market where Apple is far from delivering a death blow.
Xserve has been an outstanding value for years and, now that Leopard is out, it's Unix 3 compliant but, except in niche markets, it has not seen sales commensurate with it's performance. I'm betting that someone at Apple decided it was time to announce to the IT community that they can't ignore Apple anymore and it was worth the loss of thunder at MacWorld, to try to shake up CES a bit: "Apple??? announcing servers at CES??? Apple??, it can't be??? No, we can't get away from them!!" -- It would be interesting to see what kind of buzz this is generating; CES draws perhaps the largest contingent of Apple bashers with clout in the world. - tdous, on 01/08/2008, -1/+9Does last year count as back in the day? Cos, love em or hate em, the iPhone is pretty shiny. Excellent reveal too.
- Spuy767, on 01/08/2008, -1/+8Except when there is too much other ***** to cram into the keynote. One a side note, that is the best graphic ever.
- icebrk, on 01/08/2008, -3/+10people who choose to read the article and comment on it...... what are you doing here?
- tdous, on 01/08/2008, -0/+6I'm glad you were there to witness him doing that himself. I was worried it was just silly rumor-nonsense.
- darkphan, on 01/08/2008, -3/+9or maybe you could just ignore them if you dont like the stories.
- peep, on 01/08/2008, -1/+7Why is there a macworld countdown clock on the digg homepage by default? Did apple buy DIGG or something?
- edcrosay, on 01/08/2008, -1/+6It has bluetooth built in. Wifi is BTO because most workstations are on an ethernet line opposed to wifi.
- gregdogum, on 01/08/2008, -2/+7I'm kind of thirsty now.
- dagamer34, on 01/08/2008, -0/+4Not everyone needs Wifi in a desktop. And practically speaking, if you are buying a $2800 computer, you should be able to afford placing an ethernet port right next to your workspace.
- jschrab, on 01/08/2008, -0/+4Not to be sarcastic but I think what you've described is Apple TV (plus a little more than you might want). I don't expect Airport Express to be upgraded - Apple TV and it's no doubt future incarnations is the upgrade path for Airport Express. And I say that as an Airport Express owner.
- BossKey, on 01/08/2008, -3/+7Does this mean we can tell how bad global warming is by how much smaller the "Macworld rollout iceberg" is compared to the last ten years?
- mrmacky, on 01/09/2008, -0/+4How bout programming in an SDK that doesn't exist on an 8 core MP hooked up to that 150" LCD?
- tesuji05, on 01/08/2008, -4/+8I love all the rumours leading up to Macworld, the buildup is almost more fun than Seeing Jobs himself deliver the keynote.
- Topher06, on 01/08/2008, -6/+9Pure and simple reason, people got tired of Apple announcing a minor update as a major focus of a keynote address (re, all of 2007 keynote addresses that did not include the iPhone). People want to hear about NEW products and innovations in a keynote, not that a 4+ year old product got a new CPU in it (yes, Mac Pro = Power Mac G5 with slightly different innards). Today's annoucement was kind of a duh moment. Intel introduced new CPU's, Apple put them in their computers, duh. Apple finally realized that they should minimize the duh factor in many keynote addresses.
So there are two things that could happen in the keynote address. More dissapointment (from the desktop Mac market) that Apple is going into year 5 of the Mac Pro/Power Mac design, keeping it a huge metal desktop tank with grossly unecessary for the majority of Mac users power and exorbanent price tag and no appeal to PC users, or that perhaps Apple might finally introduce a Mac-period product, a smaller cousin to the Mac Pro that features more choice in configurations without forcing integration of an overpriced monitor on it or severly crippling it like the Mac Mini, you know, something that might actually be an attractive, no comprimise alternative to the PC (but then, I haven't seen pigs fly over a frozen hell yet). - happyseamonster, on 01/08/2008, -0/+3You may want to read the article. Just a suggestion.
- stevemclintock, on 10/28/2008, -1/+4....'was' the titanic ;-)
- Pahtcub, on 01/08/2008, -1/+4So I'm guessing it has bluetooth built in since it is no longer an option? Still have to pay for wifi
- Spuy767, on 01/08/2008, -1/+4Amen, APple and Microsoft are not mutually exclusive entities.
- Amplix, on 01/08/2008, -3/+6I think its too soon, they launched in Europe two months ago.
- mateo60, on 01/08/2008, -2/+5They announced new PRO gear before, not during, Macworld -which is typically aimed aimed at the consumer market. That was my assumption at least.
- MauiMac, on 01/09/2008, -0/+3I just won two "Free" iPods?... That auto audio ad SUCKS ASS! What the hell is Digg thinking... -------------------------->
- RyeBrye, on 01/08/2008, -0/+3Here's the obvious explanation:
Intel announced the new chips these Macs run on today at CES. It's pretty obvious that Apple is going to use this new chipset, so there is no reason to wait for a keynote for this announcement. If Apple doesn't announce the upgrades today, their computers are suddenly "not as hot" as those that do have the new chips in them starting today. - MacParrot, on 01/08/2008, -1/+4Here's a hint: Most digg comments that are dugg up are either informative or funny. Yours was neither
- Rice, on 01/09/2008, -0/+3How about it being cheap enough that I can pick up two without feeling wasteful?
- Protoss, on 01/09/2008, -0/+3Well they updated the Macbook and MBPs a few weeks before WWDC.
- 1337Bishop, on 01/09/2008, -2/+5best comment ever
- Scott2, on 01/09/2008, -0/+3. That's a period. There's another. Learn to use them.
- deadbaby, on 01/09/2008, -1/+4I'm not sure it's an outstanding value but it's not bad -- license costs can make Windows Server servers much more expensive than the initial price tag.
- happyseamonster, on 01/09/2008, -0/+3I could build the space shuttle, given the right resources.
- soopafly, on 01/09/2008, -0/+2I really don't think you know how digg works.
- sophiaperennis, on 01/09/2008, -0/+2This news is like a teaser-trailer, a pre-game show, a warming-up round.
- happyseamonster, on 01/08/2008, -0/+2Because they'll be announcing "Phenomenon". A special effects software app that compliments Final Cut Studio. It replaces "Shake" which was used on many block buster films.
- smrekar, on 01/08/2008, -1/+3oh yeah because in 2006 the one more thing wasn't MacBook Pro. lol!!!
