- WiseWeasel, on 04/08/2008, -10/+971) The ability to install any native app I choose on my own damn phone, regardless of whether Apple approves of it or not...
2) The ability to designate a portion of its storage as a Universal Mass-Storage Device, so it shows up as a standard hard drive on any computer I plug it into.
3) Full unhindered filesystem access to my own phone.
4) Integrated VoIP support, automatically receiving calls over the WiFi connection when available, so that I can finally get acceptable phone call audio quality and reliability in my own house with lousy cell phone reception, since I've long ago ended my landline subscription. - BrendanSheehan, on 04/08/2008, -14/+90"Will it have a keyboard for those who haven’t been touched — in a good way — by the iPhone’s touchscreen? "
Shut up. - inactive, on 04/08/2008, -2/+71Is it just me or was this article supporting a keyboard every other sentence? If Apple added a keyboard it wouldn't be an iPhone anymore.

...oh wait. That's pretty much a description of my Nokia... :P - OneOfNone, on 04/08/2008, -5/+33Cut&Paste. SD card slot.
- inactive, on 04/08/2008, -2/+28Most iphones I have seen already have one of those attached.
- gonzoblair, on 04/08/2008, -12/+37This article sucks... "I want a keyboard... and 12 buttons... and a more crappy add-ons to turn in into every other poorly designed inelegant piece of crap cell phone waaaaaaaah."
This people should stick to their old Nokias and leave the iPhones to the intelligent who can figure out how to use a simple touchscreen interface. - inactive, on 04/08/2008, -2/+26It should print money, and allow for the baking of cakes within.
- frogman54, on 04/08/2008, -2/+22An application called "The Picard." When you take a picture of a woman, all of her clothes fall off.
- znicket, on 04/08/2008, -5/+25I'll say it. The touch keyboard is great and there is absolutely no need for a clunky tactile one.
The mistake most users make is not trusting the keyboard to correct the words, even if you miss a key here or there. They think they have to pick each key with great precision instead of just tapping somewhere in the vicinity. - infiniphunk, on 04/08/2008, -3/+22how about a pussy.

back button? it's got as much of a back button as any other phone I've had
cut/copy/paste - would be VERY much appreciated, Apple.
SD slot - it's got more HD space than any other phone out there.
While the iphone doesn't have everything on your list, neither does any number of other phones.
My list of features any phone that isn't an iphone should have -
16GB disk space
Visual voice mail
Proper synching with iTunes
Google Maps with current location finder
The ability to run apache, php and mysql
Last.FM audioscrobbler
If your nokia has everything you want in a phone, then you don't need an iphone, surely? - maxsunset, on 04/08/2008, -9/+22seriously. why havent people figured apples thought process on these kinds of things yet? adding a keyboard or keypad would go totally against the multi-touch screen, and it would be unnecessary, and apple these days never adds anything thats unnecessary. just look at the lack of a optical drive on the air...
- superkendall, on 04/08/2008, -8/+21Totally agree, if people want a keyboard they are free to use any number of other cramped devices constrained by them.
Personally I never bought a Treo *because* it had a keyboard. - pintomp3, on 04/08/2008, -3/+16take your wife for a walk, do your dog, and your taxes
- willdelaney, on 04/08/2008, -3/+15Enough features that you don't have to pay $600 for a new one every year?
- topgigmedia, on 04/08/2008, -4/+16Flash support; video capture capabilities; spellcheck; file browser (search); voice recognition (quick dial) - I know... I know... dream on...
- luchid, on 04/08/2008, -2/+13Awwww. Someone's too poor to afford one.
- 3vno, on 04/08/2008, -0/+11SD Card slot, never going to happen on an apple product. Just like removable batteries. :(
- Speed, on 04/08/2008, -1/+11And if I want to send a picture to my friends on their cell who don't have iPhones?
Not having basic cellular features != "standing apart".
*****. - allthosemoments, on 04/08/2008, -1/+10Are you correcting? Because it was in fact referred to as a Treo.
- haylel, on 04/08/2008, -1/+9you can convert any mp3 that is around 40 sec or less into aac in itunes and rename the extension to .m4r and there ya go, there's your free custom ringtone.
as for mms, you could either jailbreak and get swirlyMMS, or you can just use your email.... you can send stuff to other people's phones from any email address, and they can send a mms to your email... - bennymanchester, on 04/08/2008, -1/+9A refund?
A spare battery? - thredden, on 04/08/2008, -2/+10oh weasel your so wise. i concur.
- iLEZ, on 04/08/2008, -7/+15MMS? It's LOLworthy that the iPhone does not have this yet. Most modern swedes (for example) see MMS as a prerequisite on a modern phone...
- p3ngwin, on 04/08/2008, -1/+9the problem is you shouldn't HAVE to break into your own equipment to make it do what you want. it's restrictive.
locked to one carrier? for your OWN phone?
utter nonsense.
most consumers WOULD like plenty of functionality, but aren't even aware of the ways that they may be able to hack their devices. for many, they will have what is given them, while a TINY minority will have a bit more functionality at the expense of loss of warrenty and possible high risk loss of data, bricking, etc.
so, not ANYONE who wants those features can have them as most people are either too scared to do it or too naive of hacking's existence.
there's nothing to say they SHOULD know how to hack their own devices, the functionality should be there already. - inactive, on 04/08/2008, -2/+10I got a fever and the only prescription is more cowbell!
- NewSc2, on 04/08/2008, -2/+10It won't have a keyboard. It won't have GPS. That article is stupid, people would rather spend $10/month instead of spending $500 for a GPS? Last I checked, GPS's can be easily found for $150. I think it will have the same form factor, just a bit of cosmetic changes (slightly different color scheme). It probably will have a better camera, but nothing like Nokia's 5mp phones.
Steve Jobs is a stubborn man, and he controls the iPhone. If he doesn't believe in having a keyboard, it will never have a keyboard. It's too intrusive on the screen, and pulling a keyboard out will make the phone unnecessarily bigger for those who've gotten used to the touchpad.
I see the iPhone getting slightly bigger and thinner, but I'm not sure if that's going to happen on this revision. I think I can hold out upgrading my iPhone for at least 2 years. 3G is nice, but if that and OLED is the only upgrade, I think I'll pass on this version. At least my wallet hopes I can... - skellener, on 04/08/2008, -0/+7> What should the next iPhone have?
A regular headphone jack. Period. - cheezintern, on 04/08/2008, -2/+9a toaster, and built-in dlp projector.
- Zaleucus, on 04/08/2008, -1/+8Trust a machine?! NEVER!!
I know I can type much faster on the iPhone keyboard than any mini thumb keyboard, but I can easily see how certain personality types would have great difficulty learning to use it. - digghasnoethics, on 04/08/2008, -1/+8To add another 32Gb of SDHC micro storage in a removable fashion so the thing isn't obsoleted quite as fast?
I don't care how much Apple desire the machine to be replaced to their timetable - some of us don't accept products where we aren't in charge, particularly of when or if to update. - solidus636, on 04/08/2008, -1/+8He meant without being jailbroken.
- anonymous666, on 04/08/2008, -1/+8A2DP
- Elranzer, on 04/08/2008, -0/+7Being available for any carrier OTHER than AT&T would be the biggest upgrade it can get.
- PayneX, on 04/08/2008, -0/+7Windows XP
- Dylson, on 04/08/2008, -2/+9***** THE RIAA!
- topgigmedia, on 04/08/2008, -0/+6oh and the ability to send mail attachments (other than photos from the phone)
