- QueenOfSwords, on 10/12/2007, -3/+31But it's *incredibly stylish.*
And when someone calls you... *Boom*! It starts ringing! - halleyscomet, on 10/12/2007, -2/+29Yet another story based on rumors, hopes and fantasies.
We really need a "Mac Rumors" category for these stories, so I can block it without missing out on the actual Apple related stories. - wastern, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16iChat has great video conferencing, I haven't seen anything like it for Windows
- wphj, on 10/12/2007, -3/+16Yeah, and thats totally the iPod's fault...
People are jerks because they're jerks. Cell phones didn't make them that way, and neither will iPods. - trylleklovn, on 10/12/2007, -4/+15I figured out what will be inside Apple's new iPhone...
PHONE ABILITY! - hybrid8, on 10/12/2007, -10/+20i doubt it, iChat doesnt offer anything appealing to Windoze users. They have trillian and GAIM. And believe it or not many mac users use AdiumX ;)
- Ireland, on 10/12/2007, -5/+13The only real problem with iChat is compatibly, but I suspect iChat for Mac would be compatible with iChat for Windows ;)
- tensvb, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7hybrid8, it's obvious you are a open source fan(boy), but excluding geeks, hardly anyone use GAIM or trillian on windows. Most people don't know something like this exists.
- Mootabolife, on 10/12/2007, -4/+10Knowing apple, they'll make it a rotary phone to go with the click wheel.
Knowing the public, they'll goble it up as cool and buy it in unsafe amounts. - flap, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4This article is just like every other article that claims the iphone will be awesome but they actually know nothing about it.
- DagMX, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3on the note of having the camera on the back/front, a lot of phones have both front and back facing cameras. usually the front is of low rez and the back will be higher rez. Most(if not all) 3G enabled phones have this feature, a good example being the nokia N73 which has an excellent back camera and a pretty good front facing camera too for video conferencing
- rufous, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Exactly. This article is completely speculative, and useless.
- Naga10, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5I would use iChat, but there's no MSN support on it. I need that, since all the people I would be talking with use MSN. Until then, I'm sticking with Adium.
- PsychoPNut, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Haha I like how you left iPod at the top.
- collywolly, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Another crappy fanboy article.
So the guy comes up with his ideal phone, then assumes Apple will have all these features, cos anything by Apple is wonderful.
"Anything else? Yes, internet access will be an important part of the iPhone, and so will iChat or Skype-- built in applications for doing a cell phone version of Voice Over IP.
OK, I’m dreaming up that last one because I want it. But what’s to prevent it from happening? Everything else is logical and reasonable, right? "
Well actually the operators can easily prevent the VOIP traffic. I don't know about the rest of the world but certain operators in the UK are offering 'unlimited internet acces' via their phones, but have clauses so that users may not run VIOP applications, so voice has to go via a traditional call, and is billed as so. - diggboy101, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3ZOMG I JUST FOUND A PIC OF THE IPHONE THIS IS NOT PHOTOSHOPPED AT ALL CUZ ITS NOT A DRAWING!!!!!!!!!!!!!! http://www.nyc-visual.com/Iphone.jpg
/sarcasm - doty1tm, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6I agree. It's completely speculative. Whos cares what some nobody THINKS is in it honestly.
- jtcalhoun, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3It's grown to the point where I just automatically bury stories as inaccurate that don't link to an official Apple announcement.
- CraigJ, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2he doesn't think, he KNOWS!.
This is lame. - zigziggityzoo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Current iTunes phones wont let you use iTunes songs as ringtones. Effectively, you have to have two copies of the songs if you want to use them both ways. And you can't use .m4p as a ringtone without converting it to another format first (however you may wish to do it). That means I can't use songs I bought on iTunes as ringtones.
So, Dag, I'm well aware that I can use my music as ringtones. I do that all the time. I'm just saying that I'd like to use my iTunes music without converting it, and without having two copies if I'd like to use the music for both listening and ringtone use. - ulcards2033, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2or they could do like the lg cu500, make the camera rotate to front/back.
- MonkeyFit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Apparently some people think those features listed in the article won't suck up battery life like a black hole.
- superkendall, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2If it's like the iPod you can use MP3 for music and MP4 for video - all open standards and DRM free if you want them to be.
So the hardness is actually your head. As for the wetness, I suggest you try Depends. - TheWorm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I can make guesses too. Can I be on the front page of digg?
- mattp, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5wouldn't that be funny? I want one and all, but what if there really is no iPhone?
- fakeshapes, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Not too off-topic, but nice prom dress on the article's author, Alexis Kayhill. Was she trying to pull a Katherine Harris profile?
http://www.crooksandliars.com/2005/08/09.html
Still, the crazy eyes sell it. I'm just saying. Oh, and the iPhone will have iChat integration - just not the way we want it. - arizonagroove, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3speculation speculation speculation. blah blah blah.
"Apple won ’t deny they’re working on a cell phone."
So? Why would they, even if they aren't? Whilst they refuse to deny it it keeps everyone, including their competition, guessing, and more importantly from a mind share and publicity point of view, talking, about what they might be up to. - PsychoPNut, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Screw Apple's iPhone, I want the zPhone from Microsoft.
- nroose, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Right, but if the phone has WiFi, then you do the VOIP over WiFi, not over your cell carrier's network.
- mark1372, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Nothing says serious journalist like dressing in diamonds and a bridesmaid gown for your website author photo.
- gregburkman, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3the fantasy phone.
a hobby for armchair commentators.
why isn't anyone GTD lol?
wait. I better go over to 43 Folders to find out how that works. - nroose, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5I hope you mean iChat AV. Seems like if it has a camera, and it is going to have iChat, then it should have iChat AV. I think it would be pretty great to have video conferencing on a cell phone. But it has to work. Not sure how they would get around the fact that a good camera phone has to have the camera on the back, and iChat AV would have to have the camera on the front.
Seems like the thing that Apple will probably do well is make the phone small and pretty.
I wonder how they will do the headphones. Will they make it hands-free? Will it be voice-enabled?
Also, how will Steve introduce it. I think he will be doing a pres about something else, and his iPhone in his pocket will start ringing. - okeemike, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5goble?
- bobba, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1If it's going to be anything, it'll be more of a video iPod with a phone inside than the other way round. Jobs knows that mobile media is the way forward, integration with a phone is a no-brainer.
The day is rapidly coming (if not here already) when I'll be sitting next to someone on the way to work who's catching the morning's vcast news or last night's TV. I'm sure the long-fabled iPhone will make these things as common as an iPod is today. - nroose, on 10/12/2007, -5/+6trillian, GAIM and AdiumX don't seem to do video. Do they even do audio?. Just wouldn't be the same seeing Steve jobs do a text chat with Madonna on stage.
- dizzybastard, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Yeah lack of compatibility with MSN is a big problem...
People in the USA don't seem to realize how MSN is much more popular thain AIM on a global scale - DagMX, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5umm, cant you do that on pretty much any cellphone capable of playing a (insert lossy music format name here)?
speaking for my phone, i can put ogg, mp3, aac, wav and amr as my ringtones - smcharo2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Am I the only one that thinks it's going to be like the LG Fusic phone...iPod on the outside, phone on the inside...?
- betobeto, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Whatever this iPhone thing actually looks like, it better comes in brown. Apple take note.
- gregburkman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1the iphone is better than sex. it is not messy, and it pleases jobs and gates.
i keep the iphone in the secret place.
it helps me to get things done (GTD).
the brown zune makes me sterile, i think.
the iphone is my faith. - gregburkman, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2the iphone is the best phone. the iphone can do it all.
it is beyond your imaginings.
so pretty, and so sleek. - johnham, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Hey, awesome, a totally speculative article backed by no new facts or information!
Ridiculous. - camkerr, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2yeah, thats what I thought, but they are hiring for their "cellular and mobile" department in Cupertino.
- gregburkman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1everyone does. because the iphone does it all.
so pretty, and so sleek. - Bonekhan, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1iChat is like Windows Messenger. Anyone care to pick up on that? ~:(
- flag564, on 10/12/2007, -9/+9Hasn't it dawned on anyone that this "iphone" doesn't even exist?
- superkendall, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1You know, it's users like you that make me so very glad Digg has the "block" feature. You can go on trolling all on your lonesome - then it's just like real life!
- gregburkman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0the iphone conducts desire and will. it knows all the combinations. it speaks in dreams from secret sex. it gets things done (GTD). it is the faith of the incubus and the succubus.
so pretty, and so sleek.
i live in a box in the alley. my iphone is all i own. it dampens its locked, secret box with truth.
try the iphone. - kiantech, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Seriously people you need to understand the average people in the US. When a person buys a phone they buy it from the carrier in which they receive service from, if apple makes a phone are they going to be their own carrier or sell the phone unlocked. Selling it unlock pretty much leaves you only in the GSM market where you lose sprint and verizon customers off the bat. This will confuse consumers because seriously none of them understand how these things work. I'm interested where apple goes with this.

What is Digg?
