- catullus, on 10/12/2007, -12/+41you're forgetting the Mac Pro with Intel Core 8 "The Ocho" processor
- tidu, on 10/12/2007, -4/+25If they are releasing the new movie store, I couldn't think of a better time to release the new larger-screen ipods. It's all coming together.
- greekgoat91, on 10/12/2007, -1/+20hopefully it doesn't come with a Sony battery.
- bantam, on 10/12/2007, -3/+21I just want a wide screen iPod!
- gabrielwalker, on 10/12/2007, -6/+19Too bad the proper phrase is "I couldn't care less". As in, you could -not- care less. Because what you're saying, there, is that you COULD care less, which means you DO care.
Thank you. - kazem, on 10/12/2007, -5/+16Woah, you posted the EXACT same thing in another thread.

That's it! Steve Jobs will reveal Solitaire for OS X in order to battle Windows! - Ireland, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Using this wireless device (front row/Apple remote etc.), if they offered a subscription based service for TV shows, and movies for $9.99. They/Apple could sell the device for $299, with $30per month subscription going straight to the studios. Apple would make about $100 per device they sold/money from a movie type iPod/and money from a more widespread halo-effect, and the stdios would make $30per month per device that was sold, as well as $9.99 per movie excluding bandwidth cost.
That would be killer!! And then Apple could update front row, so you could access and download new TV shows, songs, and movies using the remote. And more importantly you could purchase movies, and songs using the remote. - mancat, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10"It's Showtime"
Obviously, The Joker will be the keynote speaker, where he will release a virus into the crowd that causes uncontrollable laughter, ultimately leading to death. - greekgoat91, on 10/12/2007, -6/+13i will only buy an iPod if....
1. Widescreen
2. DivX and Xvid playback
3. It has a cool feature that no other player has like wireless headphones, bluetooth, or some sort of game system. I'm not too crazy about a no-touch screen, but if it works, I'm in. - tidu, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8"Woah, you posted the EXACT same thing in another thread."
...I'm going through my profile by Commented and I don't know what you're talking about. But I don't doubt you, I probably did anyway. - wwwdot1jesdotus, on 10/12/2007, -28/+34Wow, the "coolness" factor of the iPod far outweighs any features it has. My iRiver can do way more but alas, people just want to be cool. You can tell by how far this post has been modded down ---->
- iAlex, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7I want a Apple PDA/Smart Phone. Awesome.
- catullus, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8@macattacks and others interested, here it is, in all it's glory: http://aycu31.webshots.com/image/2190/2002762531050730143_rs.jpg
- Suck, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Hello, I'm the author of this story.
I posted it myself here, with a less sensational title and with a description that clearly labeled it as "speculation".
http://digg.com/apple/Apple_s_Showtime_Can_it_succeed_where_others_have_miserably_failed
Obviously this submission got me to the front page and mine didn't, so I'm not complaining. :) But misleading Digg headlines and descriptions really annoy me, especially here in the Apple section.
Please, for all of us (readers and authors): When you submit a story that contains only speculation, label it as such! - kazem, on 10/12/2007, -5/+11Yet you somehow care enough to post in its subject-thread. Nice one.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6LOL, good luck on the Divx playback. I'm sure every movie studio knows that the divx format is what all there copyrighted material is encoded in. I think the Apple engineers will keep putting out a better codec for film anyway. Don't get me wrong, divx is pretty tight but the Apple team outweighs quality over compression anyday.
- uptown, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I'm sure that's what Tuesday's even will be all about.
- elroy, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7Um... sounds like you want a hacked PSP.
- mwong, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Another rumor post about Tuesday... I don't think anyone has a better guess then anyone else and no way of proving if they do.
It seems like there should be a sub-category for apple just for rumors, so it's easy to just filter it out. - macattacks10, on 10/12/2007, -9/+13No one likes Catullus' Dodgeball reference.
ESPN 8 "The Ocho" If it's almost a sport, we got it.
I had to mod you up for that. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5yeah right, even then people wouldn't pay for music. oh, what a time we live in.
- gimianame, on 10/12/2007, -11/+14I'll get dugg down for this comment...but
Apple really needs to have an option to allow a 10-20 dollars a month unlimited subscription based music and movie downloads. Paying 10,000 dollars just to fill my pod is outta the question, and even then you dont really own the music. after using the new urge system, I really think the subscription is the better choice. - CDRaff, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I think they are releasing a new Ipod. All of the less tech savvy stores, ie Walmart, have cut the prices of the current gen Ipods. Also I get a J&R electronics ad every month, and it has the prices of the current gen Ipods crossed out, and it says to call after the 12 to get new prices!
- cubs2234, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3walmart cuts all the prices! they're walmart!
- Suck, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2One thing I left out of my article is any iPod speculation.
I'd say that it would be a wonderful move to add video support to the Nano, drop the price of the 1 GB to $99, and discontinue the Shuffle. Then they could boast that all iPods had photo and video support.
But even at Apple's volume, I'm not sure they could pull that off economically or physically. - jarinudom, on 03/31/2008, -0/+2Or $199 with a 7-year service contract :D
- emorphien, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6Instead of having another Apple topic on the front page speculating nonsense, why don't we wait for the real annoucements?
- Yasdresgl, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Too much hype going on, wait until Tuesday, that way you won't be dissapointed when something doesn't show up.
- MacHarborGuy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3personally, I would like to see the following pricing...
iTunes Music - $0.99
TV Episode - $1.99
Movie / iPod Def - $4.99
Movie / Standard Def - $6.99
Movie / 720 Hi-Def Def - $7.99
Movie / 1080 Hi-Def Def - $10.99
Allow for a wide range of video formats. I doubt the additional $2 per tier up would be saturated by the download/bandwidth difference between each tier, so higher costing HD versions could suplement the costs of the lower definition versions.
But we shall see soon. - GutterMoo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2acctually im hoping for some Solid Snake action.
- Sabin, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Buy a used xbox, softmod it, install XBMC.
- Quix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2$1.99 for a single TV episode is a ripoff. Cut that price in half and we'll talk. Unless it's HD - in which case I could live with $1.99. :)
- Sabin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I dunno about that, seems to work well for blizzard.
- thescreensavers, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I certainly hope it's new MacBook Pros with the core 2s because I want the 64 bit capabilities. It will probably be iPod related though.
- flag564, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4You make too much sense.
You must be new to the Apple section. - Quix, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Regardless of when Apple unveils its new iPods (Tuesday or a later date), there's only one sure thing: flag564 will cry like a little girl because his DAP will look like an even bigger turd than it does today.
- streak, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"Showtime" might be a reference to the Showtime network. (Imagine the trademark infringement if it wasn't!) I thought of this when Apple's invitations were first described. And I believe it even more now, since Amazon came out with Starz features in Unbox.
www.showtime.com was registered 3 years ago to someone in Canada, but the database was updated just today. Coincidence? - Reno582, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Thank you Apple for making me hate my lousy non-video playing 4th gen iPod
- setUonfire, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I just modded you down because it was fun :)
On a side note, I hope most of the following get released before Xmas:
1. iPod 6G with some actual improvement rather than a bigger HD etc etc
2. Airport Express "Video"
3. MacPhone/PDA or something, I don't know...
4. Movie Store, or maybe a music subscription service
5. Some awesome magical piece of Apple hardware
It's been too long since Apple has come up with a brand new fun and innovative piece of equipment. I thought the Airport Express fit into this category. Hopefully they won't let me(us) down again. - tacom8, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5I also hear Jesus and a unicorn are going to show up at the event... some sort of cross promotional thing like the ipod+nike, sounds interesting.
- klang, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1oh, no .. iPod HiFi-surround!
(makes sense, with the supposed addition of movies to iTunes) - pauleric, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Actually, the phrase "I could care less" is typically spoken with a lot of sarcastic irony, which makes it correct. I would find it very odd to hear someone say "I couldn't care less" with a cheery voice lacking any sarcasm.
- Suck, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The title in the context of MY site, which is always editorial and is never news, is different from the title in the context of a massive tech *NEWS* site.
- Suck, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"rip a DVD [...] which is completely legal"
Not in the US. Hello, DMCA. You can disagree with laws, but hey, you helped to elect (by action or inaction) the people who created them. - streak, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Apple currently has products that utilize the Core 2 Duo "Woodcrest" and "Merom" processors, but nothing using the middle-of-the-road "Conroe" (which was actually introduced by Intel about a month prior to Merom). I would not be surprised if Apple introduces a middle-tier desktop system that uses Conroe. And to complete the sytem, updated cinema displays will be introduced with integral iSight cameras and FrontRow support.
- nogami, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I assume that by "people can download full-length movies", they really mean "people in the US can download full length movies", because people in other countries can certainly not buy, or even view most of the retail video content (ie: TV shows) available on it...
- streak, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I rather expect Apple to introduce a video-streaming Airport Express that uses pre-802.11n technology. All of the Mac Pros and new iMacs use new Wi-Fi chips which will presumably be capable of supporting the 802.11n when the standard is finalized, so why not the pre-802.11n draft standard now?
- totorototoro, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I want a video streaming Airport Express, but I want it to go both directions-stream video from my Mac Mini to my TV, and stream TV shows to my MacBook. I'll pass on the video iPod.
