What if the iPhone Stopwatch Hit 1,000 Hours??!!? watch!
youtube.com — If the iPhone Stopwatch can display true amounts of time, then this test will prove it. What would happen if it displayed 1,000 hours? Will the world come to an end? Will the iPhone be bricked for all eternity? Or perhaps the numbers will merely shrink down in a very Apple-esque way in order to make room for the extra digit. Watch and find out

- cawpin, on 02/28/2008, -36/+18This is actually one of the better Youtube videos I've ever seen. It's short and to the point. He also used the term "*****" which deserves a digg all by itself.

- 5thWall, on 02/29/2008, -1/+39Not "Gay," "Ghey." There's a big difference.
- urbandistrict, on 02/29/2008, -4/+17like "you niggaz is ghey" vs. "you negroes are homosexual".
- KaiUno, on 02/29/2008, -13/+1Hm... sounds completely the same to me when I pronounce it in my head. It's just as moronic as censoring yourself using *'es. As in "What the f*ck, what a load of bull sh*t".
If you want to say gay, say gay. Don't go around adding or changing letters to the word. The meaning stays the same. Play any multiplayer games lately? Everything bad is gay, and the kids don't go around making it "ghey" at all.
Let's just drop gay and use ***** instead. Doesn't feel right, does it. I wonder when the time will come only gays are allowed to use the G word.- blahtastic, on 02/29/2008, -1/+7Woosh.

- DrivebyGroper, on 02/29/2008, -0/+11Probably nothing. There's no real significance to base-10 numbers when talking about electronics, since your times are going to be limited by the data representation (probably a 32 bit unsigned int in this case). As the stopwatch appears to just be converting the int to a string (which is why it expanded without issues at 10,000), the presentation of the number seems to be graceful enough to accommodate additional digits anyway.

P.S. in 2nd grade I got over a thousand and kept giong. The iPhone has nothing on me.- superal1394, on 02/29/2008, -1/+17On my 83 in class I always start typing 1+2+3... I got to 2,600 one day, then i hit enter, and it literally hung for a minute as it added it all up.

- faizal5k, on 02/28/2008, -12/+5you keep pressing the "+" and "1" keys repeatedly? pffft... I just do that once, and keep pressing the "Enter" key on my TI-84 and it automatically adds +1 everytime, saving me a lot of time, thus giving me a much more higher number by the end of math class.
- accessviolation, on 02/29/2008, -1/+13... I'm pretty sure everyone knows that. Smart guy.
- PhoenixAvatar2, on 02/29/2008, -1/+4You've thought this out way too much.

- Djchicken, on 02/29/2008, -0/+1Only way to pwn the noobs on the TI-30's. Stupid scientific calculators.
- xxpor, on 02/29/2008, -0/+2or you could just do x(x+1)/2
Ex: the sum of integers from 1 to 100 is 100(101)/2 = 5050 - SatansSpatula, on 02/29/2008, -0/+1As does every normal, four-function calculator on the planet.
- Uranium118, on 02/28/2008, -1/+18Quite similar, I multiplied by 2. 1 *2 = 2, 2 *2 = 4, 4 *2 = 8, etc.
- RG13, on 02/29/2008, -0/+15you get to ERR: OVERFLOW way to fast that way
- Uranium118, on 02/29/2008, -1/+6Not on a calculator, on a piece of paper and with my brain calculating it. Sometimes, to practice basic multiplications is way more productive than listen to utterly pointless lectures.
- NathanielJ, on 02/29/2008, -0/+1@Uranium118 - I've never seen a (non-graphing) calculator be able to hold a number larger than 10^100, which you would get to with 332 multiplications of 2. That would take few minutes, tops.
- adrenaline33, on 02/29/2008, -0/+6A better game is to try and get as many different kind of errors as possible. You get really excited when you find a new one after a long dry period.
- UnterDenLinden, on 02/29/2008, -0/+5Yeah, I did like ans(1)^1.01, that is a good 5 minutes before you overflow.
- accessviolation, on 02/29/2008, -0/+3Although that starts to generate scientific notation rather quickly. Even 64 repetitions is eighteen quintillion, four hundred forty six quadrillion, seven hundred forty four trillion, seventy three billion, seven hundred and nine million, five hundred fifty one thousand, six hundred sixteen
- NathanielJ, on 02/29/2008, -0/+3Did you really need to write that out in words? 18 446 744 073 709 551 616

- dacjames, on 02/29/2008, -2/+4I used to double numbers to fall asleep. I remember one night when I was about 12 I rushed out of my room at 1am with a paper in one hand and a calculator in the other. I'd doubled out to 13 digits and I'd got the number absolutely perfect. No surprise I'm majoring in Computer Science.
- SatansSpatula, on 02/29/2008, -1/+5Just curious what calculator you had, at the age of 12, that would have been able to track out to 13 digits...

- jotate, on 02/29/2008, -0/+3I did that. Until I got a TI 83. Then I programmed it to just loop and display the count as it incremented infinitely. As it went on and on, it slowly just ate away at the memory and got slower and slower and slower. It also is a really good way to run out the batteries on your calculator. Something I didn't realize until after I did it. And then subsequently took advantage of knowing whenever someone annoyed me in class and left their calculator lying around.
- MsAntiSunshine, on 02/29/2008, -0/+1I didn't do that, but I did add 1+1=2, 2+2= 4 ect. I got into 5 digit numbers before I stopped.

or at least started it - jnorris441, on 02/28/2008, -16/+2gay'd.
- Bob042, on 02/28/2008, -6/+25He should have tried scrolling it over to see the seconds. Now we'll never know! ...at least not for a month and a half or so.
- noelsusman, on 02/28/2008, -3/+18The guy in the video says you can't scroll over...
- Cerebral, on 02/29/2008, -0/+1Yes however they didn't have half a brain to tell them that it was still counting but that you just couldn't see the seconds so...
- noelsusman, on 02/28/2008, -3/+18The guy in the video says you can't scroll over...

- diggSJaustin, on 02/28/2008, -11/+3Niiiine. There's an "i" sound in there. Also, I'd like to point out that the video goes on for a minute and a half after the moment of truth. I'm not sure what happens though, because I stopped watching.
It's the handheld equivalent of Y2K!- jj101, on 02/29/2008, -1/+2You missed the best part! I would tell you what happened but...
- zjbird, on 02/28/2008, -72/+155What happens if you give a stupid red neck frat boy an iPhone? He only uses the stopwatch feature..
- jnnycakes, on 02/29/2008, -4/+28In his defense, you can still use the other features without the stopwatch stopping. So as long as you don't turn the phone off, you could keep it going forever.
- trouble916, on 02/29/2008, -4/+1You raise a good point here actually... that means his iphone (technically a small computer) has been running for 41 days straight. That's pretty damn impressive! Way better than my old Nokia 3650 and waaaay better than my Treo or current Blackberry.
Ever since firmware 1.1.1 mine has been pretty stable, except for some of the 3rd party apps.- adrenaline33, on 02/29/2008, -0/+7Do you usually turn your phone off at night when you go to sleep?
- arjung, on 02/29/2008, -1/+1as soon as you do anything with Installer.app the iPhone needs to restart. sounds like he hasn't been having much fun with the iPhone.
- betobeto, on 02/29/2008, -0/+1It depends on what you are installing. Some require a full restart, most others just a Springboard restart.
- tas08, on 02/29/2008, -0/+1EDIT: "So as long as you don't turn the phone off, you could keep it going for *1,000 hours*.

- actionscripted, on 02/29/2008, -6/+4Southern accent aside, what douce-bag would even think of this? He should have better things to do with his time.

- MrMacMan, on 02/29/2008, -0/+3not so secret anymore!
- vrillco, on 02/29/2008, -0/+3Yes, all over his dumb face.
- betobeto, on 02/29/2008, -0/+2As far as I know, the iPhone isn't using Sony batteries, so chances of that happening are kinda slim.

- pascal21, on 02/28/2008, -12/+711. why is he wearing a frat shirt? he looks about 15. maybe he is a whiz kid.
2. frats are the gutter of higher learning society- travistaylor, on 02/29/2008, -16/+6My SigEp chapter has an average GPA of 3.4... I don't consider that the gutter, haha
- FireStrife, on 02/29/2008, -1/+16because we all know the business majors are so damn hard.
- einstein37, on 02/29/2008, -4/+3I am a SigEp and went to an engineering school. We averaged a 3.2 GPA.

- rustyrobot, on 02/29/2008, -1/+4Yeah, but the question is, are you a douche bag? Lots of douche bags can get a 3.4.
- pascal21, on 03/01/2008, -0/+1haha my point exactly!
- FireStrife, on 02/29/2008, -1/+16because we all know the business majors are so damn hard.
- likwidfuzion, on 02/29/2008, -12/+10Feeling resentment from rush week?
- Vash265, on 02/29/2008, -1/+6Stating basic facts. The whole point of frats is to get drunk and laid, not to learn. Sure, you might be scrambling to get that assignment done at 4 o' clock in the morning so that you can pass your calculus class, but odds are you're drunk and stoned while doing it, and the only reason you're doing it is to stay above the grade line to maintain your membership in the frat.
Of course, there are frats that have respectable, upstanding members, but they're few and far between.
- smrekar, on 02/29/2008, -1/+12Of course he is a whizkid, how else could someone make 1000hrs = 4 days.
- AntBing, on 02/29/2008, -2/+2The business fraternity might disagree.
- MyExSucks, on 02/29/2008, -5/+6Hey, fyi, fraternities actually aren't like they are in the movies. At the University of Illinois, which hosts the largest Greek system in the country, the average GPA of Greeks is .3 grade points higher than that of the non-Greeks here. Just some food for thought. If you're still interested, any Fortune 500 company would gladly hire a "frat boy" with a 3.3 over a kid with a 3.7 who did nothing but study.
- bxblox, on 02/29/2008, -0/+3A 3.7 who did nothing but study is more likely to hire a 3.7 over a frat boy with a 3.3
- brettmurf, on 02/29/2008, -0/+2He forgot to include "a former frat boy who wants to relive his glory days and has the opportunity to hire a young frat boy." Most dudes in frats need to be part of a group and I am sure a former frat boy would look for someone as mind-numbingly boring as himself to hire.
- k1down, on 02/29/2008, -1/+2At my school all fraternities and sororities have filing cabinets of tests. I thought it was just a rumor but it's true. Greek people cheat their way to the top apparently. I can see how that is encouraged in today's society though.
- pascal21, on 03/01/2008, -0/+1a. i don't watch those movies b. i've been to frats, and am, at MSU, surrounded by frat bros, and not once have i met one that is anything close to desirable company. a bunch of people listening to ***** music and calling anyone different gay is not my idea of fun.
