- gyroscopic, on 10/12/2007, -2/+185Finally! A two-terabyte iPod.
- fatlip, on 10/12/2007, -1/+143@i440:
try to avoid the dryer.. when i pull stuff out of there its usually smaller than when i put it in
ipod micro? - i440, on 10/12/2007, -2/+124Wonderful. I'll have to put one of my hard drives in the washing machine and see if they go through that same expanding effect. I wonder if adding fabric softener will further increase storage space. And lets not forget the dryer...
- fishface, on 10/12/2007, -2/+111then that's not what happened.
- Universal, on 10/12/2007, -2/+101Must be that new water-based memory that Apple is secretly testing...oops, I've said too much.
;-) - titlesaysitall, on 10/12/2007, -4/+50Wow, can I do the same with my PowerBook? Maybe i'll get 5 Petabytes.
- lethalpotato, on 10/12/2007, -1/+39@titlesaysitall
no it isn't - chrishavel, on 10/12/2007, -2/+38"does it actually hold 2 tb of data or is it just a water enduced glitch?"
Snort. Yes. It really holds 2 TB. I'll convert yours for $500 (has to be done in the right water to get the proper bit density). - NSMike, on 10/12/2007, -1/+26It's more like saying you ate all 10 inches of a footlong.
- jhurliman, on 10/12/2007, -2/+26My 4G 20G iPod went through the washing machine inside a pair of jeans. It came out in 14 separate pieces, and with a cracked LCD. I guess it's luck of the draw.
- sintaks, on 10/12/2007, -0/+24The same thing happened to me! My unfortunate Mini suffered a wash cycle and two dry cycles, and emerged as a 2TB drive of wonder! I even went so far as to remove the microdrive from the casing and mount it in a card reader - same thing.
So I was gifted with an amazing faux-2TB drive with 0 bytes of useable space. - MaxPowers, on 10/12/2007, -0/+23I think plugging it in probably fried whatever chance he had of saving it...
- Jangles, on 10/12/2007, -1/+22This is an incredibly useful article.
- Mac2492, on 10/12/2007, -2/+23@fatlip
iPod Pequeno! - sintaks, on 10/12/2007, -2/+23Best bet is to soak it in alcohol and then let it dry out. Alcohol forces the water out, and itself vaporates quite easily.
- billpoly, on 10/12/2007, -3/+24Greatest... hack... ever!
- bedlam, on 10/12/2007, -0/+21Better iPod sick face pic

- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+18@fatlip and @Mac2492: You both are wrong. It's the iPod FLEA
http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=1191211792582253644 - brandizzle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+17You realize that everyone on digg now has access to your phone number and address from your resume?
You're brave. - bedlam, on 10/12/2007, -1/+17iPod sick face
http://nyjewguy.typepad.com/photos/uncategorized/oh_no_again.gif - Powerdrift, on 10/12/2007, -4/+18Psh.. c'mon guys. iPod Invisa
- sp1nm0nkey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+132199023255552, the number displayed, happens to be 2 to the 41 power. It's entirely possible that a buffer that holds the size of the harddrive was reported as full of ones, so that's where you'd get that number from.
- DJgreenLava, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13I guess just add water applies here. I wonder if the ipod id still read as 2TB, though.
- consoneo, on 10/12/2007, -4/+14I love the fact that he mentioned "When powered on the screen only shows a sick face."
That's great :P - seventoes, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11It got dizzy.
- enderu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9You're an ass...
- mark1372, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10Fake or not, this is proof that Digg needs a "Who Cares?" rating.
- dizzyd_23, on 10/12/2007, -12/+21"What happens when an iPod goes through the washing machine"
It gets clean?
...And springtime fresh. Almost forgot that. - snlildude87, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11you reported it as inaccurate because _you_ think it's a fake? who died and made you king of the world?
- Quickbreak, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Dammit, the section3 file doesn't seem to be loading, and the edit feature's gone, so here's a separate post with a download link.
http://files.filefront.com/SteveJobsSNLmov/;5264706;;/fileinfo.html - Urusai, on 10/12/2007, -6/+14Yeah, the iPod sucks; the GNU/Pod does a core dump in octal.
- shadowid60, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9OUCH!
he takes his resume down and you comment it.
Thats a low-blow man.
you should be digg-leted or somthing. - se1zure, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10Wow frank, no need to be an ass to the guy.
I'm sure people could find out info about you aswell (not me, but the digg community).
The guy took it down because he didn't want everyone to know that info. Why would you repost it? This is rediculous, and an invasion of his privacy. - matt.rubin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6make sure its 100 percent Alcohol not the store bough 70 because if its anyhitng less than 100 it would get add more water. Screen cleaning solution sometimes has 100 percent alcohol.
i think this is

a. Digg is run by it's users (mostly), so ever user is king of digg in a way.
b. I reported it for myself, If I just went along with the majority, then Digg would lose it's purpose, and be a trend driven site, not a site with truthful, entertaining pieces of news.
c. If I were king of the world, that would be pretty sweet. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6it's a good thing that USB flash drives are more resilient than this... I have washed mine a half dozen times... My boss washed his iPod Shuffle, which seemed to have a negative effect on battery life, but it still works fine...
- sedition, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I'm sure Mr Jobs wouldn't mind as long as they paid to replace them.
- Scooley01, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Tee hee, we're so cool, we can steal his resume! Now on to the second part of the plan, where we tell people...the good things...from the resume...
Wait, this plan isn't sounding very evil! - Jorb, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6"When powered on the screen only shows a sick face." - Well if you went through the spin cycle don't you think you would have a sick face.
- scheper, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5It's spelled "It's"
- mark1372, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Then perhaps you should read the other comments before posting. There are already two links to this.
- Pakman20, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7@se1zure
"_Anyone_ could have Photoshoped this", but why? He's not claiming that his mini turned into a 2 TB iPod, he's just saying that being put through the washing machine caused a malfunction that made his computer think it had 2 TB. It's not like he said that he could then put more stuff on it. He even said that he can't read/write to it. - Zero82z, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5A similar thing happened with my PocketPC. I accidentally spilled milk all over it(don't ask), but I managed to salvage it by washing it with water and drying it off. However, now my 5MB built-in storage shows up as 5MB with -3.5GB of space used and about 3.5GB free 0_o.
- ag3ntn0ir, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Hard drives and flash memory use 512 byte sectors. A sector is the smallest unit of addressable memory.
2199023255552 divided by 512 = 4294967296 or 2^32. Most likely a 32 bit register got stuck all high, i.e. 0xFFFFFFFF. - mark1372, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5It's a legacy nod to the original Macintosh, and gives the frustration of a hardware failure a little bit of character. Plus, the error might be caused by a bunch of things; likely useless information to the average consumer anyway. I'd rather the sad Mac than the usual error dialog type, like "An unknown error occured -57228 [OK]"
- Universal, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4See http://digg.com/apple/How_To_Fix_an_Ipod_with_the_Sad_iPod_Icon
- Blarbo, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7Heat kills batteries.
- IareKEVLAR, on 10/12/2007, -0/+42 TB of Music! Now i can put almost HALF of the music i have on there! FINALLY I CAN PUT THE COMPLETED 1141 kbps white noise collection that i have!
- reevolutn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4yes i know photoshop extensively thats why i said it _IS_ possible... im just saying it does not look altered to me
