- listrophy, on 10/12/2007, -10/+22Go cookbook!
You get a bunch of nerds (be it 15-year-olds living with mom or 50-year-olds who visit mom once a year) with power/macbooks showing Cookbook to their moms, you're gonna get a lot of moms saying "That looks great. How do I get it on my computer."
Then we say with a smirk..."You can't. You need to buy a mac...one of the most glorious machines ever built."
*blink* what just happened? Did my mac fanboy persona just take over. argh... not again. - listrophy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11Spam? MyDreamApp is not (currently) asking you for money. When they do ask for money, you will get in return an application that the populous has decided is useful and worth paying for.
Self Promotion? Isn't that any website with a "digg this" button is? Digg is all about self-promotion. Your "holier-than-thou" attitude, plarp, is self-promotion.
Sham? Well, we'll see about that. If the three winning apps are actually made, actually sold, and the winning contestants get their share, then I'd hardly consider it a sham.
crap. was i not supposed to feed the trolls? - wphj, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9Mori isn't that great, but I'm sure the winning apps will be!
- MikeDubb, on 10/12/2007, -4/+12Desktop Wars ftw.
- bitterg, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8sham... why is it a sham? I've learned about some really cool applications through this contest. Don't be a hater.
- shadownight, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5I'd like people who are voting for Desktop Wars to say why they are... To me, this could be an interesting idea at the most, but there is no gameplay defined, no real concrete description. This is beyond me. I hope it never finishes in the final 3 in the state it is now. The Development Manager for My Dream App, John Casasanta, said:
"This one’s top candidate for the “WTF Award”. It started off as Andrew Wilson’s idea then the past few days, someone named “Pixel Sage” seemed to take over things in the forums and turned it into a cartoony Command & Conquer with little to none of the original “icons & desktop” concepts."
Totally agreed. - Jonny5alive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+8Stop spamming your stupid rant...
- gage006, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4It's for Mac.
- onetruetweedle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I'm sold on Herald, Hijack, Blossom, and Desktop Wars.
Unfortunately, only three can win.
To loosely quote Bill Watterson as Calvin; "I just saw some things I've never heard of before in my life - but desperately need!" - andreascliment, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Whistler sounds awesome, I just need to learn how to whistle now!
- felchdonkey, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4The competition is great, but I'm suprised at the distance between what I see as the best and worst ideas. For a "dream app," some of them are very uninspired.
Better sticky notes? An app to see the weather?
The two most creative and worth having to me are iStyleIt and Blossom - but they're both far down in votes. I guess that's a reflection of the people voting - lots of geeks who care more about ways to play with computer than how their computer can help real life. *sigh* - lnf69, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I guess I am both retarded (couldn't figure that out alone,) and missing something (a mac,).
- pyro116, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3The serials for the pzizz giveaway were generated based on names / valid emails entered in the form displayed after voting. If you didn't get an email, it means either you didn't put in a name, or your email address was invalid, or (probably most likely) the email got caught in your spam filter. Try searching for an email from edward@pzizz.com.
- Vektuz, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Stop voting for computer games :(
- angelp, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2You don't think Cookbook will help with real life? What's more real than helping with one of the daily functions that we need to survive....EATING?
I voted for Cookbook, Hijack, and Blossom.... - felchdonkey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2If you're like me, using a PC at work but going home to a Mac at night, you can right click on the download button and "save link as."
The .dmg will download as a binary, and you can take it home for later. - Kingconsulting, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I don't really see what this app has over Macgourmet? Besides the shopping link of course.
- sonofalink, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2If I remember correctly, Whistler should work fine with humming. He even proposed beatboxing!
How a cookbook application is beating this is beyond me. Maybe its the retarded name? Whistler? Wasn't that a code name for Windows XP or something?
I, personally, voted for Whistler because I like Garageband but can't play a note in anything but my head. - Amplix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Hmm.. I never recieved Pzizz or whatever its called from the other vote.
Anyone else? - lnf69, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I clicked on "Download Mori" (using Firefox on Windows XP,) and got a page with a lot of symbols and characters. No download.
Am I retarded or is this BS?
Am I missing something or is this spam, scam sham? - brfuk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Mimic isn't a bad one. It doesn't have the musical link though. Hmmm.
I'd posted a 1st rough concept mockup for Whistler on my MDA blog. It is very much only a concept though. - shyguy01, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This isn't really helpful, but I did
Email customercare@pzizz.com and ask what happened - LoungeActx, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I agree, some of the applications that are up there don't really serve practical applications. Personally, I like the Hijack application (which I voted for), as for the waste of time I voted for Desktop Wars, just because I'm really curious as to how they would go about implementing it, and I can see that being as addictive as Snood.
- cmyk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1How 'bout Mimic? But what do I know? I came up with Hijack, and no one seems on board with that either. ;)
- LoungeActx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I didn't say I didn't think Cookbook doesn't serve a purpose. I'm personally not inclined to use it. However, I can see how others that enjoy cooking could use it and it would be beneficial.
- brfuk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1heh. Whistler contestant here.
The only other name I could think of was 'Hummer', but that might not be too apt! :)
Suggestions greatly appreciated. - nothingless, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0*wishes iStyleIt got some more votes* I know it's probably a bit too girly for the Mac crowd, but I would SO pay for an app like that!!
- listrophy, on 10/12/2007, -6/+2But I'm serious. The fanboy quip was supposed to refer only to the "glorious machine" part. Somehow the internet didn't seem to convey that. I really really want to see Cookbook (as it is currently idealized) made into an app.
- caliform, on 10/12/2007, -16/+7I thought, for a while, that you were going to say something funny, until you dropped into the cliché pit, quipping the term 'fanboy' in posts that feature the word 'Apple' or 'Windows' in their title is about as overused as the 'Senator Stevens' joke on any post concerning the internet. Haha, it was funny, now stop it, you're annoying the hell out of everyone.
- plarp, on 10/12/2007, -23/+3this whole topic is spam.. self promotion... mydreamapp is a sham
