- simplenation, on 10/12/2007, -21/+196That is an iBook, not a MacBook. Hence the single headphone jack.
- grifmcrenolds, on 10/12/2007, -13/+144Why does a laptop have to be white to be beautiful? That's so racist.
- fugazi, on 10/12/2007, -12/+136Mirror an imageshack image with imageshack. Such a great idea since both will be pulled once they bring in too much traffic.
- woojoo, on 10/12/2007, -5/+114http://duggmirror.com/apple/Vista_ad_with_MacBook/vistamaciy8.jpg
- essjay, on 10/12/2007, -13/+119I guess the irony is, if it was a MacBook it could run Vista under Parallels or Boot camp but seeing as its an iBook (definitely an iBook btw) theres no way it could run Vista (seeing as it would be PPC and not Intel). And lets face it, have you ever seen anyone that happy using Vista? I think thats the dead giveaway its OSX.
- dzarkw, on 10/12/2007, -12/+91Its just sad how often Microsoft uses stock images in their ads and website. You'd think for a company with so much money they can put toward marketing, they would be able to take some of their own photos.
- wierdaaron, on 10/12/2007, -6/+63Man, guys, it's just a stock photo. You think they got a photographer set up and they sat around while they installed and made sure vista was running well on a computer, then found a mom and daughter and waited until they were amazed by Aero then snapped a photo at the right moment from behind so you can't see the screen?
They just found a stock photo of people happy about a computer and slapped some vista boxes and text over it.
Stock photography + photoshop = the entire marketing industry. - scotticus, on 10/12/2007, -6/+56Which is exactly what your mom said when I flipped her over.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -6/+56Oh my god.
I never noticed that. - unit101, on 10/12/2007, -8/+53Microsoft doesn't benefit from helping Apple sell more Macs, since they don't come preloaded with Windows, and every person who buys a Mac is less likely to buy Windows. So yes, the picture is ironic.
- datisit, on 10/12/2007, -19/+58That's not really that amazing. Obviously Microsoft is not in competition with apple in hardware so Microsoft has every right to use their computer as long it is not showing the OS.
Maybe it is a little annoying for customers when they try to find that beautiful white laptop in the store with Vista running as the default Operating System. - ToxicBomber, on 10/12/2007, -6/+43dude...your *****...run!
- slundal, on 10/12/2007, -6/+42Sorry for abusing the comment system but…
That is most definitely an iBook not a Macbook or any other white computer. If you look at the ports you can see that it has a big firewire port next to the USB ports and as far as I know only the only withe computers who has that are iBooks and Macbooks. Also since there is no microphone jack, only a headphone jack it can't be a Macbook. - astrosmash, on 10/12/2007, -7/+41That is an iBook, not a MacBook. It's thicker than the MacBook, and has only a single headphone jack.
- astrosmash, on 10/12/2007, -6/+31> its a one button mouse...does acer and asus have that horrible "feature" too?
The MacBook's giant track pad is without a doubt the finest laptop track pad I've ever used, PC or Mac. Two-finger X-Y scrolling is the only way to go. - ropers, on 10/12/2007, -3/+25Honestly, I wish people would stop using imageshack. How needs an image hosting space that ALWAYS falls over at the first sign of actual traffic? There are plenty of digg friendly alternatives available.
- synthox, on 10/12/2007, -3/+24Does it really matter?

"That is not a macbook nor an ibook. It looks more like a Vaio or some other white pc. Apple does not have a monopoly of white computers."
-------
It is CLEARLY an Apple Laptop if you know anything about how they're designed. - sauron256, on 10/12/2007, -3/+20...or maybe Microsoft don't discourage the use of Windows on a Mac as much as you think?
After all, Microsoft only develop software, not hardware. They couldn't care less whether you're running Vista on a PC or a Mac, so long as they've made the sale. - node3, on 10/12/2007, -8/+24@bushnoh
"If Microsoft made laptops, maybe this would have meaning"
If Vista ran on an iBook, maybe your post would have meaning.
The irony is pretty hard to miss:
1. MS has an ad featuring a product on which the thing being advertised *can't even run*.
2. Vista has been plagued by reporters and consumers comparing it with OS X (which actually *does* run on the iBook).
3. MS and Apple have a long-standing rivalry (which goes back to the very beginnings of the PC, and the early days at both companies). The rivalry includes Jobs vs Gates, Mac OS vs Windows and, yes, even Mac vs PC.
Even though MS does not make a PC, their fate is inextricably intertwined with the PC. So much so, in fact, that MS has defined PC standards and works closely with all major PC companies.
Aside: it's interesting to note that the three rivalries listed are, at the same time, seemingly contradictorily friendly with each other. Jobs and Gates are long-time friends, Apple and MS both make apps for the other OS, and Mac and PC hardware are highly cross-compatible. - friend18, on 10/12/2007, -16/+31Windows based machines are too damn ugly to display in an ad.
- devolved, on 10/12/2007, -4/+19This is digg. Everyone here has a minimum of one opinion. And they like to write about it.
Oh yes -- Star Wars, Coke, Democrats, and Taiwanese Chicks. - TheXuu, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14this one is for you spellbinder
http://www.mymac.com/img/features/ibook_ports-neale52405.jpg - gamegenie, on 10/12/2007, -27/+40More like "The 'OW!' starts now"
- themastersb, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13I found it pretty funny that someone tried digging an imageshack image
- DaffyDuck, on 10/12/2007, -3/+13Correction: Microsoft USED TO own Apple stock.
- bushnoh, on 10/12/2007, -9/+19no, he was highlighting the pointlessness of this find. Windows is an OS. If Microsoft made laptops, maybe this would have meaning
- Scorpion1169, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11I dugg the funny just to give you a head start and a fair chance...
good luck - ciram, on 10/12/2007, -6/+13You're wrong. It's an iBook allright. I had one. I know my macs. This is not a clone.
- donsherio, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8I would say thats just an instore ad made by the company and not Microsoft. Sure theyve had a history of using macs in their ads, but this one.... the yellow.... the amature font for "WOW" and layout of the product packaging is almost like someone just slapped it together in like.... 15 minutes. I doubt this is a microsoft ad.
- macbookpromat, on 10/12/2007, -14/+20MacBook can, not the Ibook!
- perrupa, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7I noticed 2 things when I saw this picture:
1. The colour scheme looks suspiciously familiar to most in-store Best Buy ads (I used to work there)
2. The bottom of the ad is cropped off.
I wouldn't be the least bit surprised to find out that this was just a stupid best buy ad. Still kinda funny and interesting though. - navvvv, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6This is obviously a point of sale advert in some kind of pc world type store.
I bet microsoft had nothing to do with this at all. - ciram, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6This Person, on the other hand, is right, digg him up.
- Darcy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Why does this make them hypocritical? Please give me your amazing reasoning.
- mgkwho, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Actually, looking at thexuu's picture of an iBook, it does look like one in my opinion...
-=|Mgkwho - PhilippHD, on 10/12/2007, -6/+11Please everybody, DIGG this story to the very top. Not because it's that amazing. It's just I'd love to see Kevin and Alex have an argument about this on the Diggnation episode !
- DaffyDuck, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Darcy,
Punctuation is used in all languages as far as I know. - t0ny, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6The only time I said wow is when I saw vista's price tag and sys requirements.
- weeeeeeee, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6These comments are the worst. After like the 7th post and people are still arguing.. it's pretty ridiculous.
- astrosmash, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6iBook
http://gemma.apple.com/documentation/Hardware/Developer_Notes/Macintosh_CPUs-G4/iBookG4/art/050427021704_15.gif - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Definately a G4 iBook.. I've seen plenty of them to be able to identify one..
- Yodacola, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Most likely, this ad is done by an advertising agency. This is the case for many things. Heck, even digg itself uses an outside firm for it's page design (silverorange). And another note: this is most likely stock photography that the agency got off of their subscription. I doubt anyone at Microsoft knew this ad existed until this was brought up on digg.
- Maverick18x, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6This type of thing was much funnier back when you couldn't run Windows on a mac...
- DaffyDuck, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5That's the most spelling and grammar errors I have ever seen packed into a 6 word sentence.
- Darcy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Not half has drunk as you are right now.
- koweja, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4@dzarkw
Yes, but why would they bother? It costs a fair amount of money to get a single shot and all they need is a stock photo of people using a computer. - MScrip, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6> "yeah but the fact that they spend 7 years developing the OS, and in the end made an ad using the iconic computer from their competitor is quite ironic."
Microsoft didn't make the ad. Some ad agency did. They hired them to take picture of a happy family with a computer, and add the text.
After spending 7 years making the OS, did you really think Microsoft found a photo of a Mac and used it? Microsoft may be dumb... but not crazy!
I'd blame the ad agency. - vikramkr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I enjoy giggling and smiling in a fabricated manner, when I'm on my computer too!
