- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+16Ah, yes. Nothing like buying a $500 accessory for your $300 music player.
- ComicMasta, on 10/12/2007, -2/+15The interesting thing here is that the ipod is showing a 4:3 version while the monitor is showing a 16:9 version of the same video.
- mfratt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7"and will they allow it on a plane?"
Not if you have any songs from Whitesnake or Slash's Snakepit. - tthomas1529, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9i need to stop reading these posts, it's getting depressing. in my day we didn't need no fancy monitors, we had cardboard boxes. and we were happy to have em. you kids today, what, with all this spending needlessly on crap you really don't need. it will come to no good i tell ya.
- mlkmnz, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8Sounds amazing. Cause like, the video wouldnt look like ***** on anything larger than an iPod screen or anything.
Anyone else want to hop on the iPod bandwagon? - CraigJ, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6"I was wondering the exact same thing....! I'm still trying to figure out how that could be possible."
Photoshop? - netburnr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Pretty nifty. I currently use a 21" Viewsonic CRT and watch shows on it all the time. I don't know how often I would want to use my iPod on it however since everything I have on the iPod I have on the computer in the original, higher resolution I downloaded....
Pointless, maybe, neat idea, we shall see - ayeroxor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@theblack: Neither screen is distorted out of aspect ratio, which means the "vertical bands" on the left and right side of the widescreen are not being shown on the iPod.
- VeryAngryJim, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I'd buy this in a heartbeat if you could use it as a conventional monitor on a PC and switch to the dock input when you want to shut off your computer and just watch some ipod video.
- chesterton, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5Could just be a matter of someone 'Photoshop-ing' the image to make it fit the monitor.
- Resolver, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2i can't wait to watch my 320x240 videos on 19 inch screen.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3The timeliness of this release is definately not a coincidence.
- crackhammer, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I have reservations on this device from a standpoint of necessity. I think that most of us would LIKE to have such a monitor sitting in the study waiting for us to come home from a hard days work to plug in and watch the new "Incredibles" movie, but how many people can scratch together the money to have this when so many other expenses are rising? I don't mean to be a killjoy here but where is the industry going when it starts to look like the Dupont Registry in the "cool apple accessories" web sites?
- loqqq, on 10/12/2007, -5/+6What's the battery life and does it come with an armband?
- twtmc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I wonder if it will allow to use other devices such as PSPs and digital cameras with the USB ports or if they are just for charging. It wouldn't make much sense if they are just for charging, seeing as how there are 3 of them.
- khyberkitsune, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Oh, please... I may have some liking for Apple, but what's the ***** point of a low-res/small-screen video being played on a larger monitor? Do I really need to see those artifiacts and deal with the blocky resolution on a larger monitor?
And, while the idea may be nice, I doubt I'm going to lug my LCD screen around with me everywhere I go just to watch a video on a portable device with a tiny screen and have it transfer to the larger screen. If I'm going to watch a movie or video on a larger screen, I'm going to either buy/rip the video myself, or I'm going to BT it. There's already high-quality rips of almost anything I want out there, and on my computer, which is far faster than that puny iPod, the video watching experience will be that much sweeter. - Qoogirl, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2This is cool....very cool concept. But the video quality just can't possibly justify something this pricey...
OPPO has an upconverting, DivX-playing DVD player with USB ports on it. You could just plug in an external harddrive with all your non-iTunes movies/shows and call it a day (Xvid, Divx, etc.), right?
Oh, and I forgot: Apple now has a 24" iMac. - theblackgecko, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2A widescreen television stretches non-letterbox DVDs (or 4:3 television) to fit the entire screen. Surely a $500 monitor can do the same thing.
- theprez, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3It's just a composition. And the logic would be that the iPod is showing the cropped version of a 16 x 9 video. Anyways the iPod doesn't show video when outputting to a monitor, or is that a new feature in the 6th gen?
- theblackgecko, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'd be willing to bet the USB ports are just like those on a standard USB hub. Basically, its a monitor with a USB hub that includes an iPod dock.
- mlkmnz, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4I'm watching HDTV downloads on my TV, a 32" Hi-Def Panasonic LCD, so I think not to your statement...
- theblackgecko, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I've got a grand total of one song with DRM on my iPod, which I didn't pay for (downloaded as part of a promotion). ITMS is where the DRM comes from, not the iPod.
BTW, the iPod is perfectly capable of playing tracks encoded in MP3 format. And, there are a few dozen programs which will convert any non-DRM format (like OGG) into formats the iPod likes. - tuxuser, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1thats amazing. looks like a great product. though i wonder what other uses this might have? such as trhe dissabled or ppl who wanna share video on the vpod but not on tv.
- peerk, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1FIGHT THE MAN DOOD!
- Qoogirl, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2I was wondering the exact same thing....! I'm still trying to figure out how that could be possible.
- Rojo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Im so getting one and i dont even own a Ipod yet.
- ayeroxor, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1oh, definattly nat.
- wphj, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3The videos are just as good, or better than what's on TV now.
Get your facts straight. - crackhammer, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2and will they allow it on a plane?
- taved, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2What happens when the next gen ipod comes out 3 months later with a different form factor?
- mrgoat, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1its bent
fact - marauder123, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1I'm so sich of this ipod crap. I wouldn't buy one. In fact I bought 2 Iriver 20gig MP3 players instead. They have more features, No DRM, play MP3, OGG, FM radio, mic and line in. Too bad IRiver stopped making them. I refuse to buy anything with DRM. After I finish school I'm ditching Windoze completely.
- cbiz, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1My one monitor would need 4 of those iPod ViewDock's!
