I'll verify that in 3 hours.
PS: The reason people say it's innacurate, is because it's just a rumor. This is a news site, not a rumor machine. - leobaby, on 10/12/2007, -2/+32This article claims that an approaching anniversary is an opportunity for Apple to release a video iPod, but I have never seen Apple use an anniversary as a marketing ploy.
- deweyhewson, on 10/12/2007, -1/+30So that's why criminals get caught!

- TenebrousX, on 10/12/2007, -2/+29Jesus is coming back next week
- pkulak, on 10/12/2007, -1/+17Apple's about doing it right, not doing it first.
- irregardless, on 10/12/2007, -2/+18Then again, there were many mp3 players before the original iPod. If Apple does it right, all the existing video players won't matter.
The company has a way of doing that. - mkoby, on 10/12/2007, -2/+17The only reasons I could see this happening is to take some of the spotlight off the Zune launch next month and get a head start on holiday sales. Other than those 2 reasons, I think it's better to expect something at MacWorld next year.
- mrASSMAN, on 10/12/2007, -2/+16Teh Internets are never wrong!!
- sockpuppets, on 10/12/2007, -2/+17Because it's not finished yet. Hardware and software development take time.

- Terc, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10Braska,
Congrats, a bad misspelling, block characters, AND talk of Digg v2 coming out next week...
All in one tidy, monolithicly annoying comment. - Klisk, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8@omgwut
The new Guns N Roses album is actually available already on, errr, certain IRC channels. - Chewie67, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9@Pic0 - "right like with their "exploding" batteries and over heating laptops?"
Exactly!
After all, Apple is the only company who's had problems with their notebook batteries. If Dell, Sony, HP, IBM and Lenovo can get it right, why can't Apple???
Oh....wait.....nevermind. Pic0 was just talking out his ass.... - avocade, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6One would have to be stupid not to see that Apple, with its now-lower top-iPod price of $349 have left a spot open for a more expensive 'real' video iPod (probably $449 initially).
640x480 video res on all TV shows and Movies from the iTunes Store also suggest a higher resolution display, probably covering the entire front of the otherwise similarly sized iPod. You wouldn't think that the higher res announcement last month was in anticipation of iTV (with its HDMI out), now would you?
Also, as mentioned, Apple will not be stupid enough to go into the lucrative Christmas season without a brand new holy-***** device. (Well, the aluminum nano is nice for sure - I got one myself - but I'm hard-pressed to call it a new product.) - jkleinfeld, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5yes, it's called the mighty mouse, the wired version has been out for a year now
(retard) - jkleinfeld, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5i just had a 'eureka' moment...
surely, the wireless function everyone is talking about is wireless connection to the iTV??
wouldn't that make A LOT more sense than having wireless to download music to the iPod
i'm just assuming that wireless A/V will take up less battery than wirless wi-fi... anyone to correct me? - Alphateam, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6So all the Apple-heads who just bought the newest 5.5 gen Ipod can get a new one!!
All before the bugs got worked out of the new iTunes. - jkleinfeld, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4another 'eureka' moment...
MacExpo London,,, October 26-28..... Won't that be quite a good time to release a product? I'm pretty much unaware of any other major Apple orientated expos to showcase new products. Although, you know Apple ;)
Even though the Kensington Olympia has no formal room for a keynote, i'm sure they could whip up something? - displaynone, on 10/12/2007, -4/+8I think that many of the diggers of this story need to take a look at this story
http://digg.com/tech_news/How_to_easily_tell_if_you_are_being_lied_to - Pic0, on 10/12/2007, -8/+12along with the iPhone right?
 - Lumiras, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Can we just stop it with the video iPod rumors?
Seriously, there has been "considerable evidence" for the full-screen iPod going around news sources for at least a year
I'll stick to it...I won't believe a single thing about the "true video iPod" untill I see the thing in Steve Jobs' hands - Matrixsjd, on 10/12/2007, -7/+11gees, many "credible" news services have been reporting about the rumored iPod for over year as well.....give it a break already.
- crilen007, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Well looks like you were wrong.
Have a nice day. - whirlwind12, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I doubt a video ipod would actually replace the current ipod line. it would just add another ipod branded product
- MBX1, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4who cares if they just introduced the other model? nobody is forced to buy it...
the zune can't even beat these models in terms of style, functionality and price. (the 80gb model is a third thinner than the 30gb zune).
and if the videopod comes out it will be another lightyear or more ahead of any competitors. - Eldoo77, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I agree... the iTV will make it out... before NEXT Holiday shopping season.
- Blueshrike, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4The question for lots of new Video PMP buyers like myself, becomes "iPod 5th gen, Zune, or wait for new video iPod?" That's a very hard one to answer.
- streak, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I don't believe *the* video iPod will be release next week or any time soon, because Apple has a good history of playing nice with its customers. The entire iPod line was updated just a few weeks ago. Apple's computer and iPod updates are usually spaced about 9 months apart, to reduce the number of customers burned by updates and to make life easier for Apple's design, development and marketing teams, and easier for the distribution channels. In the computer realm, Apple maintains distinct product niches for consumer notebooks, consumer desktops, professional notebooks and professional desktops, and updates in each niche are generally spaced 9 months apart. For example, MacBook Pros were introduced in March, so don't look for them to be updated until January '07 (MWSF). The video iPod might be classified as a new niche in the iPod world, so the 9 month rule might not apply as rigidly for its introduction, but this product will overlap enough with current iPod models that a release of *the* video iPod any time soon would seem uncharacteristically premature for Apple... even if next week marks the 5th anniversary of the original iPod.
Remember what Apple did to celebrate the 5th anniversary of Mac OS X in March of this year? - readme, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5Apple does not do anything to stop the Zune. Zune will only kill itself. I'd rather Apple take their time and release the full on Video iPod when it's ready.
- allegedfastluck, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Yeaaaah...Engadget isn't exactly...accurate when it comes to Apple rumors. I mean, how are you all enjoying your iPhone that came out in august? How about your iChat Mobile?
These rumors are merely the collective will of many who want to see Apple totally steal Microsoft's thunder. Hey, I'd like to see it too. However, something as big as this would be announced at a "special event" that we would have heard about a month ago. - Dangeresque, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Actually, 14 days as long as it's not CTO (Configured to order - with custom engraving). CTO's can't be returned
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Quite possibly. There is plenty of evidence to support an iPhone, and it would be just like The Jobs (yes, I said The Jobs, deal with it) to have a huge "Oh, and one other thing for something this huge.
I don't see Apple letting this holiday season slip by without a new product. The G2 Nano is just not enough and it was done WAY too early. I don't know about the ViPod (tm) or it's release date, but I can see at least 3 Huge areas that Apple can attack easily, and I don't see them letting them slip. The 3 markets I am thinking of are:
1. A real PMP in the iPod family (and sorry, no, the new Video Ipod doesn't cut it. Compare the Archos V700 to the 60 Gb Video ipod and you'll get the picture...)
2. iPhone (in one form or another. Possibly a combo iPhone and ViPod? Maybe all three?)
3. Portable gaming. It's a long shot, but possible.
Frankly, if I were an Apple technologist, I would create the Uber-iPod. an iPod that not only plays music, but also plays video, can make phone calls, play games and also will take pictures. This could easily be done with the right partnerships, and would be a monster of the market place. - Chewie67, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@Pic0 - "it might be illegal to rebroadcast TV... just an idea"
If it's illegal to broadcast (ie WiFi) it from an iTV to a Video iPod, it would also be illegal to broadcast it from your Mac to the iTV. The iTV will have WiFi, so I'm not convinced the re-broadcast thing is an issue....
http://www.engadget.com/2006/09/12/apple-to-release-itv-video-streaming-box-in-2007/ - leftfoot, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Today is Monday right?
Yep, we're on schedule
Sunday - "OMFG PS3 IS NOW $8000"
Monday- "HOLY ***** VIDEO IPOD"
Tuesday-"TEH TUBEZ ARE CLOGGED"
Wedensday-"OPTIMUS KEYBOARD FTW"
Thursday-"LINUS TORVALDS TOOK A *****!"
Friday-"THIS JUST IN : BILL GATES IS RICH"
Saturday-"FUNNIEST VIDEO EVER : KEVIN ROSE LOL" - fuxjoey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2if they do then i feel sorry for those who rushed to apple store for the new ipod video.
- Chewie67, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Thursday rotates. Some weeks it's
Thursday - "WIL WHEATON WATCHED TROUBLE WITH TRIBBLES"
other weeks it's:
Thursday - "WOZ BOUGHT A CHARTREUSE PEN LASER"
followed by:
Thursday - "DVORAK PREDICTS DELL WILL PREINSTALL AMIGA OS ON ALL NEW DESKTOPS" - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3don't think for a second apple will ignore the zune.
- neoknight, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2no wonder they offer *Free* engraving. Bastards.
- lane.montgomery, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2That is not true. The 5th gen iPod was released before Christmas and not too long after the Nano was released.
In fact, Apple released the Nano in the "back-to-school" time period and then turned around and released the video iPod after denying it for months. Once the Nano was released, most people were pretty sure the video iPod wouldn't come until at least the following year.
I don't think it is a sure thing, but I also can't ignore the pattern:
1. Less expensive iPod in the late summer/early fall.
2. More expensive iPod in the late fall/early winter.
I agree with what some others on here have said that the price reductions are to make room on the top for a friggin sweet product. - phpfreak, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2agreed 100%
who wants a zune?
