- stutimandal, on 11/29/2007, -2/+24Best way to replace 3 yr old Iphone's battery is to replace the Iphone with its latest model.
- mrfreeziexp, on 11/29/2007, -1/+18I honestly rather pay money to have the pros do it than have a heart attack doing it myself..
- sparced, on 11/29/2007, -1/+12Thats convinced me to never attempt to do it myself.
- Eaglefire, on 11/30/2007, -1/+8Funny, those are the same steps that the iPhone needs for a battery replacement too. Only with the iPhone it's much much more complex.
- superkendall, on 11/29/2007, -3/+9Considering it only costs $80, it takes a matter of days, I only have to do it about once every three years (the estimate is that battery capacity will be at 80% after two years of use, meaning one more year is reasonable), and you can get a loaner iPhone for $20 - I'll let Apple tackle this one thanks.
Not that I don't enjoy seeing the inside of an an iPhone, very nice. - likwidfuzion, on 11/29/2007, -0/+6Nate aka natetrue developed iBrickr and other native iPhone apps.
- pencilneck, on 11/30/2007, -1/+7Seems like a poor design if the end user can't perform something as simple as swapping out the battery... like any other cell phone. Give the guys props though for putting the info out there.
- likwidfuzion, on 11/29/2007, -0/+5If you watched the video, a scenario would be when you drop your phone in water...
- Sedako, on 11/30/2007, -0/+5And voids the warranty.
- Tyr7BE, on 11/30/2007, -5/+10How to replace any other cell phone battery on the planet:
1) Open it up
2) Replace the battery
Which would you rather be doing? - Eaglefire, on 11/30/2007, -0/+5Because using the little progress bar to skip the commercial was just beyond you?
- cgruber, on 11/30/2007, -0/+4They should rename this tutorial How to destroy your iPhone. I fully expect a bunch of people to attempt and fail at this.
- toetagger, on 11/30/2007, -1/+5As soon as I saw the ***** commercial, I shut it off.
- superkendall, on 11/30/2007, -0/+4Nate can also open an iPhone without apparent damage, respect his mad skills please.
- Eaglefire, on 11/30/2007, -0/+4So does dropping it in the toilet, which necessitated the battery replacement in the first place.
- harlowsmonkeys, on 11/30/2007, -0/+3Actually, here's how it went on my LG phone a few years ago:
1) Take the battery out. (No need to open it up, as the battery was integrated with the back cover of the phone).
2) Find out that LG no longer made that model phone, nor the battery for it, and since their batteries were integrated into the case, none of the batteries from their new models would fit. Find out that my carrier (Sprint) also no longer carried them. Search the internet, and find that I could find some old ones from a few places, which were expensive, and had probably been sitting in stock for quite a while, so would not have full capacity.
3) Become very annoyed that a phone that had been a new model when I bought it was now thoroughly orphaned a couple years later.
Since then, I've only bought phones that a LOT of other people bought, so that I could be sure there would be a thriving third-party market for things like batteries, should the original manufacture orphan the phone. - cgruber, on 11/30/2007, -0/+3So sync it to itunes and it will do that for you.
- FTLJohnson, on 11/29/2007, -0/+3and despite all of that, it was still awesome. A great start by these guys... hopefully they will work on their production, and we will see improvement, because there is definitely potential here.
- rkzda, on 11/29/2007, -1/+4You said that already.
- chkdg8, on 11/30/2007, -0/+2Uh, here's an idea, put in a couple of hours overtime at work and mail it in.
- pak314, on 11/30/2007, -0/+2So we need a pro to change a cell phone battery? I hope some company invents a cellphone with an easily replaceable battery.
- aduzik, on 11/30/2007, -0/+2I mostly watched the video just to see the disassembly, too.
- Eaglefire, on 11/30/2007, -0/+2iFixit already does that. But a video gives you more information on the specific techniques required to open the phone, because many of the steps are entirely nonobvious. I would recommend watching the video as a primer to get the basic idea, then probably pulling up the other guide so you can go at your own pace.
- toetagger, on 11/30/2007, -0/+2Um, it's should still be under warranty.
- zdiggler, on 11/30/2007, -1/+2I hates video instructions, just type it up with some good pictures. or just show step by step pictures.
- Kums99, on 11/30/2007, -0/+1Hmm... I can do it as in my school I learnt soldering and making small circuits I will be little apprehensive in doing that but this video gives you a great insight to how things are arranged.
- starf, on 11/30/2007, -0/+1Ideally you would replace it before it runs out completely so you can back it up on your computer and clear the contents.
I'm not sure if you can restore to the loaner in the meanwhile. - inactive, on 11/30/2007, -1/+2Can I get a video tutorial for replacing the battery in my Motorola phone?
Oh wait, nevermind, I can just pop off the battery door and stick in a new battery, just like every other mobile phone. - NSResponder, on 11/30/2007, -0/+1DO NOT follow these instructions. The idiot removes the hot wire first, which is just begging for it to touch the chassis and short out. The clown is going to burn his hands off one of these days.

http://www.batterymill.com/newsDetails.aspx?newsid ... - oogydoogy, on 11/30/2007, -1/+1How about you just don't buy it in the first place? That'd save you a lot of hassle, and money.
- CheapMonday, on 12/02/2007, -0/+0lol these guys a funny.
- inactive, on 11/29/2007, -5/+5***** gsm buzz
- inactive, on 11/30/2007, -2/+2GREAT ! Now you will have a working iphone for 1 year... and a brick for 2.
- SunAlex, on 09/04/2008, -0/+0nice, I never done this.

http://sooslic.com/ - rshuston, on 11/30/2007, -2/+2Yeesh! I'd find it more believable that these guys were credible if:
a) They didn't take the thing apart over a ceramic counter top (no wonder the thing's all scratched up - use a soft cloth or rubber mat guys!)
b) They didn't use a needle to pop the SIM card (use a paper clip so the thing doesn't get wedged)
c) They didn't pry things apart from the inside using a sharp, metal screwdriver (it's a good way to permanently damage the inner circuitry of the thing) - inactive, on 11/30/2007, -2/+1Considering most use their phone with business contacts and have personal info on them?!
"Loaning" Apple your phone with no garantee they will back it up, is not the most comforting of thoughts. - nixuseleven, on 11/29/2007, -5/+4Digg is the place I go for video tutorials disassembling random Apple products.
- inactive, on 11/29/2007, -3/+1What is this dude's obsession with "Nate" for?
- illuuu, on 11/29/2007, -4/+2"what you're doing is scaring me right now"
i would never EVER do that... if i had an iphone - IllBeBack, on 11/30/2007, -5/+3You have to dismantle the phone to replace the battery? Wow, I'll be sure to not buy an iPhone then. I can replace the battery in my phone anytime I want for no extra charge.
- jamief00, on 11/30/2007, -4/+1So wait, you spend about $400 + Contract on a phone, yet you can't actually just open the case and pop the battery out?
I suppose all you Apple worshipping zealots still count it as a feature though? - punkrockxtian, on 11/29/2007, -6/+3That was probably one of the worst video tutorials I've ever seen. Poor lighting, poor camera work (half of the time you can't see what he's doing), and not to mention they kind of seem like they have no idea what they're doing. Sending your iPhone to Apple sounds like a much better idea after watching this video
- nixuseleven, on 11/29/2007, -6/+2Digg is the place I go for video tutorials on disassembling random Apple products.
- wretcheddawn, on 11/30/2007, -5/+1You can't REPLACE THE BATTERY without sending it to apple???
Well, if you're stupid enough to buy an iPhone, then you deserve to not have it for several weeks while your battery is replaced. - bjdowns, on 11/29/2007, -5/+0my roommate just ruptured his battery while taking his iphone apart... i'm sure this video will come in handy during the surgery.
- breakaway, on 11/30/2007, -8/+2I wish there was a tutorial on "How to get a clue" for Apple users, but unfortunately there isn't.
- micropizzle, on 11/29/2007, -10/+2Why would anyone need to do this so soon?
