- anagoge, on 10/12/2007, -9/+46Great ad. Really nicely created. Whoever is responsible for Apple's ads needs a raise.
Also, on another note, I tried to submit this story myself and got told it was a duplicate of this one. However, it offered me no way to "Submit anyway".
Is this the end of dupes? Shocking. - MackPrime, on 10/12/2007, -1/+36Customer Support :
MY NANO DOESNT LIGHT UP LIKE IN THE ADS I DEMAND A REFUND - chewy5000, on 10/12/2007, -7/+40Digg me down
- zetsurin, on 10/12/2007, -8/+38I bet just as you were clicking reply, you sat for a few minutes re-reading your post thinking how cool you are.
- raz3000, on 10/12/2007, -3/+30Marketing is definitely one of Apple's strengths. Sony could really use some talent like that right now.
- zetsurin, on 10/12/2007, -3/+28Don't jump, it's not worth it! You can make so much more of your life. We're in this together now. Digg us up.
- Flump5000, on 10/12/2007, -6/+31why is the 8GB nano as much as a 30 GB iPod?
- dawgma, on 10/12/2007, -0/+23i agree. this is a great evolution over the previous generation of iPod ads... it maintains the same emphasis on color, done in a stylish new way.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+22its like dust that you can watch outside!
psp ads have to be the worst thing on television. - chrisgiddings, on 10/12/2007, -0/+16"why is the 8GB nano as much as a 30 GB iPod?"
Think about the cost of a brand new technology. A 30GB HDD, even a small one like the ones used in iPods, are pretty cheap now... as compared with an 8GB Flash storage module like the ones used in the new Nano's and just introduced in the last couple of months. - headzoo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14I'm wondering why Apple can find the kinds of people it takes to make ads like this, and MS can't? Must be looking for different kinds of people I suppose.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11hmmm..quite similar to this lg ad: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5rPtWsayzP8
- dawgma, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8the style has been used countless times before... from advertisements to student art projects. it's not new... but it was executed quite well. and it fits with the style used in previous iPod commercials.
- nox327, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10Very very cool concept, the only thing is that the music is nothing special. They could have used a bit more energetic song.
- EricJD, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7What kind of a freak dances around with their iPod like that?
- Wobble, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5maybe its becasue its 4am but your comment actully made me laugh as there is going to be someone that stupid :)
- kinesis8, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5wow, that's a really nice looking ad.. almost seems like they used aspects of the 'glowstick' style in the videos below as inspiration for their ad concept

'dugg' because of Apple using a Cut Chemist track =) - fibber, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Can I say that I was the 35th person to digg you down.
You can't beat sheep mentality! - e3mw, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6JohnyD, you must really dislike soft advertising. The point of it is not to inform, but to excite.
- Lutz, on 10/12/2007, -4/+8flag564: Yes because most ads usually have a deeper meaning?
- Eddy3oy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5I hope you're being sarcastic, i really do!
- PrinceofSpace, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4If anyone is wondering, Apple's advertising is done by a company named TBWA/Chiat/Day.
https://www.tbwachiat.com/ - Dakk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4The point of this ad is to let you know there's a new iPod nano and it now comes in more colors.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4digg is about what people find interesting so by that reasoning it looks like the reason this ad is on digg is because.. people find it interesting... like me
dugg - madpie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4unlike commercials for beer. Beer *does* come with girls and cars, which is what's so great about it.
- rickbauls, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7How is it that we get to the point that we watch ads while looking at ads?
- ICSU, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6Where is the awesome part? Nowhere.
- royaltea, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6I've always liked Apple ads. Surprised they didn't have a guy headspinning with a glowing nano. That would've been sweet.
- backrash, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3its to emphasize the new colours. watching it in slo-mo, you really see the work that apple has done to flash a little bit more of that nano everytime.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3maybe they want linux users to be able to watch it, hah
- mangojump, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5The point is that you're expected to know about the product already, and if you don't, then it will tempt you into looking it up yourself (which is even better for apple)
besides, Hype sells, so y not exploit it? If you were a big company wouldn't you? - PathDaemon, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4"The visuals of the ad are to be commended, however, it tells me nothing of the product."
Microsoft's Windows ads ("Start Something") are even worse. Not only are they not about WIndows, but they try to make you feel all warm and happy. - zodieman, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Apple does have good marketing but right now the only thing that is converting the masses are iPods. If they did something like this ad for Macs they might fare a little better in the marketplace. Even a PC ad look like the new nano ad? Nope, PCs are boring. Macs need this kind of advertising, not the stupid ads they have now.
- wonkavsn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2My personal favorite is the Sparks ad:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=saG6wKwAHkM - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2madpie owns
- xofc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Technologies that are most successful, at least in this era, are those that a consumer can personalize and have a sense of ownership in. Apple has made the ipod are a successful brand in part because they emphasize this personalization in their advertising. Ipods don't come with dancing people; the point is that you, the consumer, can put whatever you like on it and dance however you like. Say what you will about the merits of the hardware, but for advertising, branding and marketing, they've done a very good job.
- Blah_Blah_Blah, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I think the special effect part of it was really nice, but overall it wasnt an amazing ad or anything. just my opinion.
- hiro, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3It's a good ad but I think I'd struggle to call it "awesome". Maybe I'm a bit harder to impress
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2you're right digg is gay... guess we wont be seeing you around anymore, goodbye
- crackintosh, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2its the LSD, not LCD that makes the color light trails!
- taitacakes, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3What are the bets it was done by Logan who did all the original shuffle ads etc?
http://www.hellologan.com/site/tv_movies/ipod_shuffle.php - TomRemixed, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I can't stand all these people commenting on how freaking cool the new iPods are. There is hardly anything different. The only different is the looks space and the ability to buy movies and games off of iTunes.
- mark1372, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Well, it's no "Head-On! Applied directly to the forehead! Head-On! Applied directly to the forehead! Head-On! Applied directly to the forehead!", I'll give you that.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Hey isn't that the base line from the Beastie Boys' Jimmy James? I mean I am sure the Boys or the Dust Brothers just vicked it from somewhere themselves. But I just thought I would point it out.
In all honesty I think the ad is pretty lacking. Nice looking, but so is a drunk guy with a sparkler and a long exposure. - antdude, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2So pretty. :) It reminds me of those computer demos.
- greenspans, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Why is an advertisement #1 on the digg top list? Don't we get enough advertisement already?
"It's a tech related ad and a very popular gadget"
That would be a worthwhile argument if they actually showcased some features and pricing, rather than showing idiots dance around scribbling magic paint while the camera zooms in and out on them. - j.carcinogen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This comes on tv every 10 minutes.
- benwaterworth, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1i have to say i thought that.
it does look like the click wheel lights up. - mrbro, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1http://images.apple.com/ipodnano/ads/images/noqt20060912.gif
