Oh c'mon. stop playing the "Apple=expensive" troll card. That's troll is no longer valid anymore and hasn't been for many years.
We all know that there are several high-end mice that match Apple's $50 price tag. I recently purchased a high-end logitech mouse for $90, so don't make this out to be something out of the ordinary.
Yes, there are "pc" mice that cost as little as $5. (So many are implying that these mice couldn't also be used on a Mac... which is false.) Macs allow you to use whatever mouse you want... wither it be a cheapo $5 mouse, a high-end $50 mouse such as Apple is offering or a ultra high-end mouse for $90.
Stop trolling and accept this for what it is. I nicely designed highish-end mouse for a reasonable price. - datter, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3My comment on the blog post will stand here as well I think; "Leave it to Apple to invent something that’s been around for decades. Though I suppose it’s got something that most other mice don’t have…. that slick sexy Apple design. and the slicker sexier Apple price tag.
oh and the little top mounted anal bead is a nice touch as well. It looks positively thrilling to rub." - Invariant, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Unlike the other stories that were dugg today, that was a pretty fair review.
Everyone seems to be in love with the design but it doesn't look that appealing or intuitive to me. Moving your fingers from the position of resting over the primary/secondary buttons to use the squeeze side buttons seems very awkward. With a price tag of $50 this product would be a swing-and-a-miss in any market other than the Apple market. - matriculated, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Cut your fingernails dude!
Anyways, I find it odd that this mouse is a bit non-intuitive. It really requires that you read documentation on how to use it (as opposed to regular mice) - this really goes against the "it just works" philosophy.
Eg. For someone new to computers, it's hard enough for them to understand right-clicking but to not even see that there are 2 buttons?
Also, the 2 side buttons have to be simultaneously both clicked to register as the forth button?
I guess they thought that sacrificing ease of use for looks was worth. Don't get me wrong though, I think it looks great and I'll probably be getting one. - avocade, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1We need to coin the term "dug" for sites. "Slashdotted" is just so... last minute:)
- Logik, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1i'll dig this one because it's video.. might be nice to see it in action ... awaiting the download to finish. at like sub 50k/sec.. yikes
- Invariant, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Kelly: A little more on the meaning of my comment -- I'm saying that the features don't justify the price. The design is awkward and compared to the other $50 mice out there it's lacking several features (I love cruise-control scolling). The only thing that mouse has going for it is the Apple branding.
And when did I say that expensive mice for the PC don't exist and everything expensive is Apple? Might want to recallibrate your troll-dar and knock off the straw-man arguments. If you want to grill me about anything bring up the fact that I think people will buy this only because of the name. You know, what I posted about. - Function, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'm a victim of buying Apple by name, but only as coincidence. I love stuff that is really well designed, industrially. Hence most good computer industrial design is done by Apple, I tend to purchase a lot of their stuff.
I'll try the mouse out first. - RunLevelZero, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Thanks for the vid. Just what I was looking for. Mouse looks nice but like it was said, I don't think the ball pushing in so much is going to work that well. That'll be fixed in v2. The double squeeze shouldn't be anything after a days use if that. I personally mouse around so that my thumb and ring finger are right about in those positions. I still prefer the MX1000 to all other mice but that's because I have one, and really like it.
- lsutiger, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I just love the way Windows people get all uptight when Apple releases a new product. Funny.
- asif786, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Now posted on the MacTV Videocast:
http://daily.asif786.com/macTV/ - WackyT, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Glad I can get a good Logitech MX mouse for my PC for less than half that.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0yea right, phail
- ProAm500, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I love the innovation at Apple...2 button mouse, things have come a long way....
- tempestivo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0That is not a mouse, it is a breast. I want one.
- adamS, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I won't be picking this up. Bought the Bluetooth mouse just a couple of weeks ago and am extremely unsatisfied with its tracking ability... will be returning it tomorrow.
- Function, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Did you guys notice in the video he didn't mention the audible clicks? I was kind of curious about that.
- ArcaneDevice, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0it's a better freebie than what the current bundled mouse is but I wouldn't buy a new one for $50. I have a rechargeable MX1000 with 8 buttons. Not as slick or light but it only cost me $40.
I still think the best Apple mouse was the ADB G3 mouse. Perfect shape. - inju, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Despite what TUAW reported, the only scroll clicks I heard were soft mechanical clicks from scrolling... definitely nothing through any reported "speakers". Usual scroll wheel clicks...
- audible, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0this explains a lot. thanks. definitely not buying it. one of the major problems with mac mice is that the whole body is a button, accidental clicks. also i remember i couldn't even click cause the surface i was using it on was uneven so the button body couldn't click down. now i have a microsoft mouse with my mac. heh.
- rebrad, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Wow, a two button mouse. That's real innovation Apple. Maybe they'll charge $99 for the privilege of upgrading to where the rest of the world has been for over 10 Years. That's right, it has bluetooth, the hackers friend.
- nickzee, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0http://digg.com/apple/_Apple_Mighty_Mouse...Reasons_not_to_buy_it
why not to buy - cjsan, on 10/12/2007, -1/+050$ for a mouse is just nuts...
- lpok, on 10/12/2007, -3/+050 bucks for that? You apple fans must be rich.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0yeah good thing apple has customers that dont give a ***** what they buy as long as its apple.
