- SeBBBe, on 10/12/2007, -58/+417Just saying that its for a "notebook" when it's really only for Mac OS X pisses me off. Specify in the description, please.
- lolatnoob, on 10/12/2007, -39/+130@cvp1
Some of us get the titles from our RSS readers so it's not always clear what topic the story is under.
How about you stop being an elitist dick, *****? - J0hnD0e, on 10/12/2007, -10/+78are there any similar apps for windows
don't digg me down just because i can't afford a mac :( - gonfunko, on 10/12/2007, -0/+61I'm the developer of Task List, and I have to say this just made my week. What a great way to start the new year! Anyway, if the .Mac site goes down, which I expect it might, I've mirrored it at http://www.gonfunko.com/funkwareindex.html where I have a good bit more bandwidth. Try to go easy on the Trac, as it's being hosted on my iMac and I'd kind of like to be able to use the Internet today.
- wakesabre, on 10/12/2007, -6/+65does anyone know of a windows/linux alternative?
- Wolfboy, on 10/12/2007, -65/+115re: put it in the description... I tend to agree
However, Digg gives you a big clue. Every Digg entry shows you what topic it's from. The topic is listed under the description. If you had been paying more attention, you would have seen this is in the "Apple" topic and saved yourself unnecessary aggravation. - xOutlawx, on 10/12/2007, -7/+46Did anyone else think of a 'paper' notebook when they first read the title?
- Blah_Blah_Blah, on 10/12/2007, -9/+32you obviously havent been on digg long enough.
- gonfunko, on 10/12/2007, -1/+20@ G-RaZoR -
I don't have any moral objection to doing a Windows or Linux port, but it's unlikely to happen anytime soon for two primary reasons:
1) I'm lousy at programming. I can't write C (or any variations thereof) to save my life, so Task List is almost entirely written in Applescript Studio, which is about as far from cross-platform as you can get
2) It takes up enough of my time as is - maintaining three separate builds, fixing bugs and handling support on three systems is pretty much not possible.
Nonetheless, I'd be fully supportive of anyone who wants to do a port of some sort, even if the only thing ported is the feature list and general interface. It is open source, so feel free to use any of my code if it would help. I'm kind of sorry for students using Windows - last time I checked, there were two ~$30 shareware homework apps that didn't do much of anything. - standardissue, on 10/12/2007, -11/+30Other similar Mac apps:

- G-RaZoR, on 10/12/2007, -2/+19Sorry to bug you, but will you develop anything for Windows or Linux?
- PURDooM, on 10/12/2007, -0/+16I looked at the story and thought "oh great, another PC app. I use a mac damnit", but as it turns out its a mac program. I was pleasantly surprised!
- Xilon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14He was referring to the geek culture.
- Xilon, on 10/12/2007, -3/+17omg!!!!! idiot!!!!!
- p7th0n, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14TaskCoach is one that comes to mind. It is Open Source and cross platform -- http://www.taskcoach.org/
There are dozens of similiar applications out there. Some Open Source--some commercial. - InSeverance, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12A bit buggy...and not suited at all for the UK (we don't use the ol "GPA"), but still amazing app. I use iCal for a lot of my work, might be able to use this to replace it.
- mikev, on 10/12/2007, -16/+28This app is ***** awesome.
- chriskzoo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13By the time you add in all the substeps for an assignment (thinking typical school assignment here) and priorities, you probably could have just finished it instead.
- farther, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11Now I, as a PC user, know how you Mac folks have been feeling for years. I am so tempted to go for a Macbook and Boot Camp it next time I get a computer.
- mfratt, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11I realize that it is in the Apple category, but when it hits the front page, many of us do not tend to look at the category. I don't want to disable the category, because I am interested in some of the news that comes out of it. I actually happened to click this one off the links on the Digg section of my Google Homepage, which does not display the category at all.
The moral: Please specifiy when something is Mac-Only. - Skates, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11I know all you guys are Microsoft haters, but the new OneNote 2007 is actually quite good. We received free copies at the University I attend and it definitely helps me keep track of all my assignments and handouts...
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/onenote/default.aspx - a10waveracer, on 10/12/2007, -4/+14This looks cool, but I would love a win/linux alternative...
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10and the online variant at http://mynoteit.com
- webdevil, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12It doesn't have that annoying conjunction junction song.
- dr00, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9a lot of people check digg through RSS feeds. for me, everything i just filed under "technology."
- Nachoo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9Alright this is it. I will buy a Mac in 2007.
- froinlaven, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8If you're stuck on a non-mac, just use a web-based thingy:
http://www.notecentric.com
http://notemesh.com/
http://stu.dicio.us/
These are much more web 2.0 than a OSX app... - luish, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7I noticed the source of the program is opened ....
so maybe some can port it to windows ? - xfile087, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Quite true, but the source code is there so it wouldn't be too hard to customize it for UK users
- asmodeos, on 10/12/2007, -4/+11Agreed. It is listed under 'News -> Technology -> Apple', but I don't think most people will check that when clicking into the article from the 'Technology' homepage. I went so far as to download it before figuring that out!
- razorpit, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8Maybe the tide is changing?
- astrosmash, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7You can get a used 12" iBook for next-to-nothing these days. It makes an ideal notebook for school.
- aoe2bug, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4@ bsimms, 40 hours for something assigned on thursday and due on monday, right? ;) good times
/architecture student - dkocolin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4may i make a suggestion? add support for days to the class schedule. those of us in college don't have every class every day ;-)
- hbweb500, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I use Google Calendar/Gmail/Notes to keep track of everything. Since it is on the web I can view it from any computer, quite conveniently.
- Spamiclese, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5God ***** dammit. Like 1% of Digg users use Macs, so why is it every time I click a software link its to Mac *****? ARGH.
- Prem, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5I think it stands for Power PC
- G-RaZoR, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5ok. understandable.
I guess I will have to stick to Notepad... *sigh* - gotamd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I agree that it would be nice to have that it's Apple-only in the description somewhere, but it still looks like a kickass application. If I used a Mac for personal use I'd definitely check it out.
- Xilon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Read the uhh readme. It says to go to Task List > Preferences > Classes, you can add and remove them there. I agree, it's not very intuitive and I was confused too.
- bSimms, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4How do I add a class? I must be stupid.
- naughtymonkey69, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5A whole bunch of windows friendly ones here
http://www.filetransit.com/view.php?id=8819 - Freakwit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3GPA: grade point average.
at UNSW, we use the WAM: weighted average mark. - spargo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I use OneNote 2007 for notes and Outlook 2007 to keep track of assignments, tasks, etc. all synced with my desktop, laptop and pda. It works very well.
- Kershek, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Yep, I love OneNote 2007. Anything you screenshot is automatically OCRed and searchable. Any audio of people talking that you record is automatically text searchable. I tested this by reading aloud a paragraph, then doing a text search for a word, and it found the word each time, playing each part of the recording where the word was said. Lots of other features, including sharing a notebook with others on a network. I keep all my notes for work kept there.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3OneNote really is great for students and keeping track of notes and tasks. All your notes are saved automatically when you close so you don't have to wait for it to ask you to save.
Some screen shots:

http://img299.imageshack.us/img299/4163/ss2vv1.png
The best feature of it is a screen shot you can take with it. You can select part of the screen that you want to save and then it automatically opens up OneNote to save either to there or as a .png. A lot faster than taking a screen shot and opening up Paint or another program, editing, and then saving. - gonfunko, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Choose Task List > Preferences, and click the Classes icon in the Preferences window. Click the + button below the table, and fill out the fields you can or want to in the sheet attached to the Preferences window. Once you're done, relaunch the app and you're good to go. It's in the ReadMe as well.
- Xilon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3heh same... except I'm one of them.
