- ArchieAndrews, on 10/12/2007, -0/+29You want to upgrade a nano hard drive? That would be a cool trick.
- superal1394, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15my one friend always bitches because mac "stole window's processor's."

http://uncyclopedia.org/wiki/Ipod_Nano_200gb_Instructions - wvdavis, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8OK, $240.00 for a 40GB HD? When I can get a new 30GB iPod for 250.00 (with the warranty). It is not worth it.
http://discountechnology.com/Toshiba-MK1031GAS-Laptop-Hard-Drive_2?sc=2&category=21 - Sanitarium, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Its a 40 gig single platter disk. Thats why it has such a steep price.
- AdamGott, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Nice, I thought that I had a bad hard drive a while ago and couldn't find much good info about using a different brand, this site has a list of comatible drives.
- ArchieAndrews, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Touché
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Based on the chart, if you have a thin 5G (i.e. 30 GB model) you can't really upgrade a whole lot. Just to a 40 GB drive.
- Sanitarium, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7"and they can be found in many other products, including (not surprisingly) some Toshiba laptops and (perhaps more surprisingly) Microsoft’s Zune player."
Why is it more surprising that the Zune uses it? Toshiba make hard drives.. and won't wait around for just apple. Intel make chips for PC's and for Mac's. Nothing surprising there. - phantom_mullet, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Be careful with this. While this site says that the 60GB and 80GB drives will work with 2G and 3G, I know from experience that the 3Gs cannot take greater than a 40GB drive without quite a bit of trickery...I put a 60GB drive in my 3G, and I ended up having to boot into disk mode with the 10GB drive that came in the iPod, then I hotswapped the 60GB drive in and clicked "Restore" and crossed my fingers...it took a bit of doing but it finally worked.
- superal1394, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I am suddenly very interested in gutting my iPod
- sinembarg0, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2It works on gen 2 iPod minis. I bought one with a dead hard drive and put in a 1GB cf card and it worked for a while, but I got cocky and was throwing it around to show the solid-stateness off, and it died.
- 10011, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Why not get a Zune instead? or a Creative Zen if you're so inclined about an iPod killer?
- cywei99, on 02/05/2008, -0/+1ipod shuffle don't get any upgrade right! What a pity!

- mmrz, on 03/08/2009, -0/+1Is it back up?
http://www.freeipodsongs.org - drmobutu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1www.ifixit.com sells qualified drives and tools. They also have online guides for many apple upgrades.
I replaced my old 40Gb with a 60Gb, using one of their kits, and it worked perfectly. highly recommended. - Nick42, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I've read in a couple places that replacing an iPod's hard drive with a non-Apple version will disable your ability to sync via firewire because of some sort of modified firmware Apple loads on their versions of the Toshiba drives. Does anyone know any details about this? Is it true? Does it affect every iPod generation?
- warMen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Good to know... the disk on my old one crashed. A 30gb upgrade for $100 seems pretty tempting, along with a newer, longer lasting battery!
- drmobutu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1you can get a 60Gb drive for about $150...www.ifixit.com
- wvdavis, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"you can get a 60Gb drive for about $150...www.ifixit.com"
That is for a 8mm and you can't fit a 8mm HD it to a case that is designed to hold a 5mm HD and even if you can they list them for $200.00. http://www.ifixit.com/cart/catalog/product_2216_iPod_Video_60_GB_Hard_Drive.html
It is still not worth it. - mphutchy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0If you wanna upgrade your ipod mini into a flash based ipod then I did mine using this guide here. No moving parts!
Think it has to be a first generation mini to work.
http://geektechnique.org/projectlab/753/how-to-turn-your-ipod-mini-into-a-flash-based-ipod - JakeX, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I did a quick search, first place that comes up with parts (hdds) that you can get (if I guess your iPod needs repair) is here:
http://www.ipodmods.com/shop/ipod-video-2g-parts.html
Might be helpful for ipod modders :P - brutalwit, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1What I'd like to do is put an 8gb flash drive in my 4g 20gb ipod
- mrsteveman1, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0Yea, but you have to question a company who spent a number of years bitching about how slow intel processors were, only to switch to them anyway.....it was the P6 (pentium 2) they complained about the most, and the core duo they switched to is directly based on the P6 core.
- adml_shake, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1Boy am I glad I got a nano, from what I hear all you have to do is get 2 4 gigs (one of them junked) and attach the memory from the broken one right on top of the memory in the good one and BAM! You have a 8 gig nano...
[/sarcasm] - sjbdallas, on 10/12/2007, -7/+2OMG that looks like ass.
- SultanTravi, on 10/12/2007, -14/+3http://reviews.cnet.com/Toshiba_Gigabeat_MES30VW_30GB_white/4505-6499_7-31660763.html
That's how you upgrade your entire iPod. - GoldYoshi, on 10/12/2007, -27/+1What about nano?
