- hookshotzz, on 10/12/2007, -2/+152you know what... i misspelled the title. someone shoot me...
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -6/+61I actually submitted a ton of these a couple days ago, if anyone wants to see more: http://digg.com/design/Transparent_Desktops_2
- Hindu_Wardrobe, on 10/12/2007, -4/+45*Shoots you*
- dominasian, on 10/12/2007, -0/+20i would do it but i just have a wall behind my computer
- imikedaman, on 10/12/2007, -1/+17Why doesn't this involve an iSight behind the lid and a cool CoreGraphics wallpaper app?
- Roger, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16Cool, but old. There's a flickr stream with tons of these kinda photos somewhere...
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+16Those are some damn large icons.
Do you have bad eyes? - kashtuek, on 10/12/2007, -4/+16Why are you digging Soviyet down? His link is relevant. God you guys are reactionaries.
- trogdoor, on 10/12/2007, -7/+19All you need to do is get a wiimote, duck tape it to a hat, get a webcam with servo controls and zoom, then make a program that tracks the position of the wiimote and rotates / zooms the webcam so that the screen truly seems transparent. 20X bonus if you use two webcams, a pair of red blue glasses and perfect the effect by making it anaglyphic.
Now my fellow diggers, one of you must accept this challenge of ultimate geekdom and create something truly diggworthy.
And........... GO! - trogdoor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11http://www.flickr.com/groups/transparentscreens/pool/
- Savut, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10@cankillar
"not just photoshopped" is not equal "not photoshopped" - IQ70, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11And why is it in the Apple section?
- laxwarrior, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7whew this is going to be a challenge. My laptop is infront of a mirror.
- ElMoselYEE, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7so why...exactly...are you still on your computer?
- hookshotzz, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9my eyes are fine. i just have pretty icons i like to look at.
- M4tt3r, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7I hope some company makes a monitor that would be transparent just like in those pictures, expect you wouldn't need to do any "tricks".
Glad I'm still pretty young. - webdwarf, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6soviyet's were way better, although some of them don't look possible but that's probably just my lack of imagination.
- 0zymandias, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Similar situation here - I just have a naked woman behind my computer.
- mrfreeziexp, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4It's alright hookshotzz. mistakes happen. :)
*doesn't shoot you* - kazimir34, on 10/12/2007, -5/+9because apple is just so cool, and microsoft so evil.
- darkmagus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3i think i would make my icons a bit larger.
- trogdoor, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7I never said the challenge of ultimate geekdom would be easy, but it certainly is possible and it certainly would be cool.
- hookshotzz, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5is that all you need to do?
that's it? just those few simple steps? - JorgeGT, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3because she's printed
- hookshotzz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2its just fun
- hookshotzz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2cool! do it!
- linathael, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I am amazed that someone is trying to claim paternity of the hollow screen originally brought to the web community by macbidouille.com / hardmac.com:

if you need information mail me. - hookshotzz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2even if it was on the back, it still has to be pretty precise to look cool
- ProphetSix, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Why do we have to go through a Flickr account to get to the article? New blogspam tactic?
Anyways, here's the real article:
http://www.photut.com/tutorial-transparent-tft-screen.html - JasonsRath, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3At least they could be super sized in 2003
- ebjcoat, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3This would be cool if it used a camera and rendered the effect in real time, but this is just a photoshop trick incorrectly filed in the mac section. Lame.
- thunked, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Someone already posted a bunch of these.. and this one is actuallly not very good. The shadows do not match how can there be a black shadow on left side of laptop, but on the wall it has not begun yet? But I guess it's just for fun anyways.
- MikeOSX, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Too bad you have to be sitting at a particular angle for it to make sense.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2The trick for me was the apature/lighting
- starguy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Someone needs to do one of what the inside of a monitor looks like... you know, looking inside the vacuum tube, which you make partially transparent, seeing the circuit boards, insides of the case, back tube guns, etc. Something generic that could be used on any computer. Or maybe a generic one for the back of an LCD monitor.. where you saw ribbon cables or circuit boards or screws or something
- ian2783, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I did that a couple years ago. should have posted it!
- Woolmonkey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I didn't know any monitors used vacuum tubes.
- adc86, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Screw VLC, play around with some Quartz Composer... Then run Screensaver Engine on your desktop. Seems pretty straightforward to me...
- Synthos, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Does anyone know of something similar for CRTs, except that it shows the guts of the monitor?
- dudu78, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1omg! this is the oldest news ever. has been around since the first digital cameras hit the market.
- Boofster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Ah boo...this is noobish.
I would hook up a webcam and put it behind the laptop then make the desktop the direct feed from the webcam.
It's got the coolness effect but I can see this getting old in an hour. - SanHolo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Yes, this has been hip about a year ago.
- hookshotzz, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3@cankillar
yes you have to create the wallpaper in photoshop based off a photo of the wall behind it(which is what the tutorial shows), but the transparency trick isn't photoshoped in - IllBeBack, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Yes - I'd like an order of fries animal style with a coke. Hop to it, Skippy.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3Nice idea. Works only when viewed from that angle though
- glev2005, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0the one on the front of his blog isn't the same as the one he did in his tutorial
- jake3988, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1You made me go to the link thinking there was actually a tutorial on your to make your screen transparent. :(
