Top Ten Strangest Mac Mods
techeblog.com — A lot of hard work was put into these strange and cool Mac modifications.
- 684 diggs
- digg it
- mickoes, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Those are really impressive...I wonder how much the mods cost?
- AppleOSuX, on 10/12/2007, -80/+11If you can't use it, you might as well make it look good right?
- UserAgent, on 10/12/2007, -17/+28AppleOSuX: exactly, that's why so many people mod PCs!
- StatusQuoRules, on 10/12/2007, -20/+9@ UserAgent
LOL! Nice one :D owned that person.
Theres some nice mods there. - fourfive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I think the G4 cube is running mac OS X.
- noGoodNamesLeft, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2If those are the mods, I think I'd rather be a rocker instead...
- highpass, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1AppleOSux or whatever your trolly name is, I thought we got rid of you months ago with that special article dedicated to you. Gutted.
And please, Digg submitters, no more top ten lists. Why not set the exact same article up differently, there's no need for the top ten malarky, and lets face it, it's getting more repetitive that AppleOSux's kindergarten commentary. Nob.
- angeloloria, on 10/12/2007, -22/+12AppleOSuX, what the hell does that mean?
- nilobject, on 10/12/2007, -4/+15My best guess is "Mac Operating System user eXperience".
Who knows. I guess (s)he's just a big Mac fan. - ghelton, on 10/12/2007, -29/+5you idiots,
AppleOSuX = AppleOSucks / Apple OS SuX - thebrokenlight, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9I'm pretty sure he was being sarcastic.
- nerdofnerds, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10that he's a misinformed pc user who hasn't actually used a mac since (i'm guessing) since 9 and doesn't understand that the os is based on unix now.
- highpass, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Angel: pretty much this; mumsie couldn't afford to get me a Mac, nor a Dell, i'm forced into using an abacus and a typewriter. It's only when I go to school that I can finally get my jealousy and frustration out in the form of trolling around the internet annoying people and generally bringing down the atmosphere of places on a whole, whilst simultaneosly stroking my smarmy grinning chin in a way most people would break faces over.
But no matter - I'm boring - and "I'm lovin' it"
- nilobject, on 10/12/2007, -4/+15My best guess is "Mac Operating System user eXperience".
- icefrakker, on 10/12/2007, -4/+11yet another top 10 list.
- exoendo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7I call dibs on the top ten top ten lists.
- chicken101, on 10/12/2007, -3/+16Another top ten list from Tech Blog, I never saw that coming!
- foolfromhell, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2TechEBlog is stupid. On that MIllenium Falcon mod, it says "They also concealed an iSight camera into a gun port and added one extra USB port for the iPod Shuffle"
Any Star Wars fan can see that the camera is in the cockpit. Not the Gun Port
- foolfromhell, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2TechEBlog is stupid. On that MIllenium Falcon mod, it says "They also concealed an iSight camera into a gun port and added one extra USB port for the iPod Shuffle"
- BadassCheese, on 10/12/2007, -11/+5stop the damn top 10 lists!!
- rtphokie, on 10/12/2007, -16/+3are even the apple fanboys digging thi crappy article.
- Ramble, on 10/12/2007, -12/+4Shouldn't it say the only 10 mods?
Not really impressive, definetely not worth a front page. - mcbesq, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3Why would people do those things to a Mac? Fine, I get the aquarium. I'm not saying it's original or overly ironic. But the Necromacicon G4?! That's what happens when teen modders who pimp their rig on PC's get enough scratch to get a Mac.
Speaking of which, that's what we need... a pimped out G5. Neon tubes, water-cooling, the works. I want to see that. Put a spinner on the fan vent. Pimp it to the max.- bluflame, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3What if you put dubs and a whale-tail spoiler on a Lamborghini?
- foolfromhell, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2Most of those are G3s or G4s. Whats the point of having an awesome looking computer when it sucks on the inside?
- highpass, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1And just what benchmarks are you pulling out of your behind to back that little claim of yours up, Fool?
Indeed, G3s and G4s aren't as great in certain areas, but go check BareFeats for some startling facts about PPC vs Intel.
Another point, is that even on an aging G3 300mhz system, OS X flies along, bells and whistles included. Compare that to the requirements of Vista, or even an untweaked XP, and then tell me the old PPC line sucked.
Toodles - highpass, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1And mcbesq, not everyone wants gleaming chav lights and aquarium windows on their computers. Great, it's a phase of sorts, after which you're left with something that looks like it was hand crafted by blind rabid giraffes from the 80's. Woopdedoo! Pimp it to the max! Bo! :/
Seriously, what professional wants all that crap on show if a Client visits the workplace? - mcbesq, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Further proof that the people on Digg are incapable of appreciating sarcasm in written form. As a rule of thumb, ridiculous statements like "[we need] a pimped out G5. Neon tubes, water-cooling, the works. I want to see that. Put a spinner on the fan vent. Pimp it to the max" should be viewed as facetious until proven otherwise.
My suggestion to you is to stop visiting Digg and read a book on the various uses of ironic language.
PS - I suggest you remove "toodles" from your vocabulary as well. What professional uses that in everyday conversation with clients?
- invisiblesun, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9but that toy hummer they put the ibook on top of, that's just amazing.
- antisthenex, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10I think every one of these lists has the obligatory, "Why the hell is that on here?"
- darinjohnson435, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7GAH, that Hummer iBook is just ***** stupid. OOH, I set a laptop on top of a toy car and slapped a sticker on it. big ***** deal
- alej744, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2sarcasm, I hope
- daven1986, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0tbh, most have been done before but to pcs. pcs lend themselves much more to modding, however that is what modding is about i suppose, trying to do the seemingly impossible!
- mcbesq, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Painting a Mac to look like the Necronomicon is not seemingly impossible. It just reflects poor aesthetic sense
- tuartboy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16I just put my powerbook on a banana. That has to be worthy of at least 5th place.
- bluflame, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I call dibs on the address "stuffonmymac.com"
- fry15, on 04/26/2008, -0/+1http://www.stuffonmymac.com/
- bluflame, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I call dibs on the address "stuffonmymac.com"
- mozzep, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6http://www.duggmirror.com/apple/Top_Ten_Strangest_Mac_Mods/
- ncdave101, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Now I'm just waiting for the top-ten list of top-ten lists to show up on the front page...
- SmeRndmGy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3That fishtank would be better if it was also a working computer. Maybe the PC components in clear plastic and surrounded by water so you could see the fish swimming past your hard drive or something. You could even call it a form of water cooling.
- bradmoreland, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3My guess is that it would be difficult to keep fish alive in such a tank as the water temperature would fluctuate too rapidly and stress the fish.
- aeiou, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Simple fix- just run folding at home all of the time and use the processor as the heater for the tank ;)
- KevinRichmond, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0What about the PowerMac mailbox? That was a sweeeet mod.
- uzusan, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1the mac mini tower does look good. much better than most of what made it into the list
- metacoola, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Some of these with the necronomicon g3, while impressive, they aren't very mac exclusive. Since you could also do that with a pc. But the tiki one and the NES ones are my favorite. Anyone have that one mod that was on the homepage? I think they called it the ugliest mod ever in the title. Basically pieces of mac minis everywhere
- darinjohnson435, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1the NES mod was cool, a lot better than most of what made it on the list
- sembetu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I would love to get my hands on that honorable mention. Would be a great studio apartment setup for a mac-mini entertainment center.
- arachnist, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Wondering if anyone made a sex-doll mod. That'd add a new meaning to words of mac-fans who say they love their macs :)
- cyberghost232, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4wow they put a ibook on top of a hummer. those mac people are so inventive.
- whitlock, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Not only is this old, a few of the mods are made by the same guy. I'd just suggest going to modyourmac.com or macmod.com for the actual mods.
Techeblog is like the Letterman Top 10 of tech news. That's no compliment. - ckyxx, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Come on, everyone likes these top ten lists. Better than searching around the net in different places to find the exact same thing. So stop complaining and try to enjoy.
- gxcdesign, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I have a Mac SE that I want to either make a fish tube or Core Duo machine
but I also thought about taking my PS2 and using tha to make a MacStation - ospreycriminal, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0Seems like the Digg front page is turning into Techeblog FTW. Might as well just have a permanent link to the blog..it would save time.
- teckjunkie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I was disappointed at not seeing the "tabletmac"
http://www.macmod.com/content/view/166/2/ - bradmoreland, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1What? No iBong?
http://www.wired.com/news/mac/0,2125,50820,00.html
http://www.wired.com/news/images/full/ibong_f.jpg - digitallysick, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1i liked the nes mod the best
- dupswapdrop, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I do like the flat mac mod, take your mac run over it with truck, repeat till flat.
- aeiou, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I love the mac se running OSX. Thats just brilliant.
- nerdgoturd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1OMG a new top 10 list from non other than.................................... TECHEBLOG!!! yay, not.
------------------------------
how is the ibook on top of a hummer a mod? anybody can stick their laptop on top of an RC car.- otherland, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Paint a laptop a silly color, put a sticker on it, call it an apple.
- LegendarySock, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1yuck... i cry every time i see the media mac...
BUT
i do give credit to the maker for actually being patient enough to work on it, even if it did end up crappy, it was a good project to TRY.
