But I doubt that the iPhone will be sold in Europe without being unlocked. I also don't like that apparently you can't install third party apps (i hope its not true). About the camera, I now have a nokia N73, with 3.2 megapixel, and UMTS, and I expected the same from Apple. Ok, its a great phone, and I want one too, but its clear that they had to make choices, to fit all that tecnology in that small space. Probably i'll wait for the 2nd gen iPhone before buying one.
- monkeybutler, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2What a great list. As with most exciting new product releases hype tends to overshadow reality. This list really does put everyones eyeballs back where they belong. The iPhone is a stunning product but for $600 and swearing your ears to a crappy cell carrier for 2 years then not everyone who wants this thing should get it.
I agree with all 11 (yes, there are 11) points but the biggest are these.
- Non-replaceable battery. Not only will the battery not last a business trip, it will wear down before your 2yr contract
- Cingular really is a bad company. They're huge so it makes sense they got the contract but overall satisfaction with their signal or service is pretty low. Any current/former customers know that calling in support for something this complicated will be a nightmare.
- No wifi syncing. Remember all the people pissing on Zune for having wi-fi but not having wi-fi sync? Why shouldnt the same whining apply here? - silvermotion, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I agree on the battery Point, batteries should preferably be user replaceable. However, on the touch screen point, i own a HTC Wizard pdaphone and i dial numbers directly on a touchscreen half the size of the iphone's without any problem whatsoever.
- Andyxox, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I agree on how the iPhone should be unlocked. Apple is really only going for a slice of the market. I would get the iPhone if it was unlocked, but oh well.
- danwarne, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Yeah, but the point is, Apple's iPhone uses an on-screen QWERTY keyboard that's finger operated.
- danwarne, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2do you type QWERTY without a stylus though?
- jamesbannan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1onscreen keyboards (like on Windows Mobile devices) are indeed QWERTY - I guess it makes sense to stick to typing standards
