- wastern, on 10/12/2007, -0/+16they are completely different apps
i like QS and use it, but its not for everyone and this apps is basically just a quick reference of your applications folder. - sarnesjo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14One way this program could be altered to be more than a fancy folder displayer, is that the icons could be sized according to usage. In other words, the more often you use a program, the bigger its icon gets.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+16This is so pointless.
- n3tfury, on 10/12/2007, -3/+14wow, one big bubble of cluster *****.
- angelp, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10Installed and sent to AppZapper within ten seconds.
- TheZetetic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Please bury me down, I accidentally replied to the wrong comment. I apologize.
- synd, on 10/12/2007, -16/+21It sucks. QS is tons better.
- nwoolls, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Three letters. O - S - X
- vandy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3and i opened my applications folder and hey! wow, it does the same thing
- Uruviel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I don't see why you would want this.
The usefull frequently used apps go in the Dock ... if you want to use a not-so-often-used program I really don't see the problem of scrolling through the Apps folder.
Alternatively: Use QuickSilver. - BenBenMan, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Wow that's ... uh ... new and ... ehm ... innovative ....
- queuetue, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I can see how some people could find this useful, but probably only if they haven't learned how to use QuickSilver. When the article mentioned launching apps from the Dock, I wasn't sure what they were talking about. The QS launcher is so natural, you forget it's not a stock part of OS X.
- sfacets, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4it is a window with apps in it. wow. Another useless mini app for Mac Os X... if this continues Windows won't be the only one with thousands of the buggers.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Launcher by Odology is MUCH better.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2http://paulstamatiou.com/2006/07/22/todos-displays-your-os-x-apps/
- thereisnospoon, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3This is similar to a much better app launcher called overflow: http://www.stuntsoftware.com/Overflow/
This Todos thing just got ate by appzapper.
Note however overflow is not worth $15... I paid half that for it on maczot. - Scourge, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2QuickSilver and/or Spotlight > this app.
- Uruviel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2A sort of tag cloud? ;)
- artman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I'm trying out TigerLaunch. A very smaller version of application launcher. Configurable and very unintrusive.
"It displays an Apps menu at the top of your screen listing all your applications in alphabetical order—no matter what folder they appear in."
And it's ok. Bare bones but has a great use in limiting apps in my dock. The ironic thing is though, you have to have the app in the dock to launch it. But it's freeware and I'll stick with it.
http://ranchero.com/tigerlaunch/ - zboy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Looks pretty, but reminds me of my windows days when you go to start > programs > BOOM your whole screen is filled up with applications and now the game of hide and seek begins.
- yichen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I would like to have a Overflow like launcher with Categories.
- zen.state, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1this is quicksilvers useless little brother
- LuisM, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1cmd+shift+u is the same, but with only need to press3 keys.
- PhantomC, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1yeah... thats useless, just open up your applications folder in icon view, same thing
- dimplemonkey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1eeww. I don't know if I like that. But if you do, have at it.
- jayscottgold, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I did the same thing. I installed it...it didn't find all programs and was INCREDIBLY confusing to use.
- artman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yeah, but it is less intrusive because before you launch it you select what apps you want to appear first time you open it (whereas in Windows all existing and new apps are pre-loaded & you have to remove them manualy). The menu drops down from the right hand corner and has a tiny tiger paw icon (which you can change including the dock icon). Small, unintrusive and very cpu friendly. Name me any Windows app that does that. But we're not talking about Windows here...
- ircoops, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I agree - pointless. If you want a quick-start menu why dont you just put your applications folder on the dock bar then command/right click to see a nice list of apps - bit like a simple version of the windows start/programs menu.
- StatusQuoRules, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I have been doing this since my first Mac and find it essential :) right/hold click and list of apps
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Todos means "all of them" in spanish.
[/randomtrivia] - TheZetetic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1That brings up the utilities window. Pressing " Apple + Shift + A " will result in the applications window to open. (Note: these shortcuts only work while in the Finder)
- dracula7, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1to start tigerlaunch automatically goto system prefs > accounts > login items - you can make any application you want start by itself
- skyhighrockets, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1You could try Dragthing.
http://www.dragthing.com/ - AlbedoPiasora, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Another useless pretty app...
I keep reading all these comments that offer ideas for how they'd improve the application to make it less pointless. Honestly, no improvement could ever make it QuickSilver and no QuickSilver user would ever switch to this app. I'm pretty sure that everyone who did download this did so just to watch the prettiness of it one time without ever intending to use it as a functional extension of there computer.
Screw it, I'll throw in my improvement idea with everyone else's. Drop the utility angle. Just make it an OS integrated clone of the game Memory. You launch the game and it randomly chooses a user specified number of application icons and then places them on little cards you can flip over two at a time until you've found the positions of all the app icons it was hiding...
I don't know, then it might remain installed for longer than 10 seconds - JuliusErving, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I downloaded this and agree with most that it's a pointless app that seems half finished. Given that, anyone care to explain why it got over 500 diggs?
- madoritwist, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1that sucks .... you'll get dizzy just trying to find the app you want
- JimXugle, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I dugg for the naming convention.
Sí, hablo un poco español. ¿y usted? - artman, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1To each his own. Do I want to type which app I want to lauch or just click from a pre-selected list? Click I say! Do I want cool (yet useless) eye candy? No! But to each his own.
- Fridrik, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1This program is flawed from the very first thought. For one, finding an application is simply a matter of a Cmd-Shift-A in Finder, from which you can access any program, and even get the program's first character by typing it on the keyboard.
You don't even need Quicksilver to make this completely useless. Spotlight will find any program you want way faster, and way more conveniently than a bunch of icons cluttered all over your screen. - KooLLaiD, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Not impressed. Needs to have configuration options, would be nice to be able to list the applications in the order you want them. shows some items that are not usuable applications.
- happyfundave, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I deleted this in record time
- caliform, on 10/12/2007, -8/+8Sorry, why is this dugg down? Obvious truth: Quicksilver is more open and accesible, has more features, more expirience with the tasks at hand, etc. Be real, people.
- substrate, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The most straight forward way I've found of digging for Apps is to create a folder that's world readable. In it I create subfolders: Utilities, Office, Media, Graphics, Audio, Engineering, Games, Development. The first time is a pain because you create aliases of all your applications and drop them into the respective folders. Upkeep is simple, as you install new applications just drag them wherever makes sense.
Drag this folder to your dock and you'll have an easily navigable method to get at your applications. I've never tried QuickSilver though. This is free and if you make the folders world readable it's an easy modification for all users on the Macintosh. - Zeromus, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Because it looks hella pretty?
- gfunkster, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Everybody seems to be in agreement that this app is useless...so how did it make it to digg's front fage?
- shelbyme, on 10/12/2007, -4/+0gay...
