- kmarchiori, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7I'm seeing a trend here, positive posts get modded up, negative posts go down. You don't think the people who sell this are on here moding posts? Come on people, It isn't really that far-fetched.
Watch this one get modded down at a blazingly fast pace. - cmiz, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10I got SubEthaEdit and AppZapper from these guys for free, and they're both great apps. Yes, It's legit. No, I didn't get any spam from them. Yes, I'll be doing my part for this one too...
- cfsporn, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9No it is not. These guy are real. I know, I got Appzapper from them and NEVER got any spam.
- jdevalk, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7I don't think this is spam, poster might have only posted three things, this IS interesting stuff.
- computerdude33, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Hmm, I've been modding people down, and I don't work for Houdah, MacZOT, or Apple. Wonder why?
Every other BlogZOT has been on digg with some fanfare. It's up to the USERS of digg to say what they want on the homepage. - kmarchiori, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Apple doesnt post their own articles on Digg to try to get press. I never doubted the legitimacy of the software, just the marketing strategy.
- dustko, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Innovative marketing. Especially as they link to your blog, so it is effectively a win-win situation if you're a blogger. Although, they have 18 blogs at the time of posting this comment, and they need another 281 before it is "free". I'll be watching to see if this strategy pays off.
- computerdude33, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3"Or maybe you use other apps of theirs and refuse to believe that a credible developer would use an ad campaign in which they exploit Digg"
Hey, newsflash: THEY ONLY HAVE ONE ****ING APP!
#2: MacZOT submitted it to digg. Big whoop. It's free. Think of that free Microsoft USB Drive a few months ago. - ideabrian, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Follow the BlogZOT action on this page: http://www.maczot.com/?mod=blogzot&list=1 - that is, watch if it gets to free or not.
- DonJuanMAC, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3After contacting MacZot and HoudahSpot the column error is corrected and entries are now being accepted.
- NoLoGiCx, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4kmarchiori's comments are dead on - especially about viral marketing.
Read: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slashvertisement#.22Slashvertisements.22 to learn more about how a similar site lost much of its credibility.
Even if this is 'news' somehow, it belongs under the deals category, where I can be prepared to be subjected to crap like this. - kmarchiori, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Why? You must not have an innate ability to detect spam. Or maybe you use other apps of theirs and refuse to believe that a credible developer would use an ad campaign in which they exploit Digg. Huge corporations exploit everything they touch, why not a small business?
- cmiz, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5That's the point I was trying to make. You think it's a dumb strategy, I think it's a neat one. I think it's diggworthy, but you're not biting for it. I'm not saying you're wrong, or even that I really disagree with you. I'm just saying that I got SubEthaEdit for free from them simply because I learned about them in a blog, and it's one of the most used applications on my machine.
- dangerboy13, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Tried to post my blog entry, but the submission form isn't working.
- hoyaman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I'm seeing a trend here, too. If you don't like like apost, just waste all of our time by SPAMMING us with comments abot how mush it's SPAM. Look, there's a milion something damn DIGG (or there should be, and it feels like it), why do I give flying flip about one I don't care for?
If I didn't like the digg, why would I be this far down the thread commenting?
I don't work for MacZot, Houdah, or any programmer. I'll mod you down if your comment is worthless. That's kinda the point, isn't it? If you don't like the post, you know you don't have to digg it, and if you don't digg it, it may not reach the front page. Unless a bunch of us other people think it's cool to get free apps for the Mac.
Please stop wasting your time by flaming. - chiefted, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Good review I mod up, anyone who complains about MacZot and states its spam gets mod'd down.
No don't work for either company. Have never EVER gotten spam from MacZot. I have gotten some pretty damn good software through their posting. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2It's a shame it takes 'em a while to update. I'm afraid it'll won't be free by the time they collect all the blogs!
- Scourge, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3"Column count doesn't match value count at row 1"
Can't submit my entry :( - YHCIR, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Apparently it worked, they got enough blog posts.
http://maczot.com/blogzot/index.php - dan.blanchard, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Why do I need this if I have Spotlight and Quicksilver?
edit: Nevermind... when I read "Desktop search perfection for the Mac," I thought they were just trying to make a proprietary Spotlight. Now that I've looked into their feature and see that it's really and add-on for Spotlight, it seems pretty cool. - hoyaman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1HEY! don'y just copy and paste ... they want youn to actually blog about your impressions of the program. That's the work you do to get your own free copy, regardless of whether the blog Zot brings the price down to $0.00. Kinda like what they did with Pzizz a few weeks ago. If you bought the bulk licenses of AppZapper, you could also work selling copy of that into your review of Houdah.
- ij00mini, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3If you guys don't understand... just post what they tell you to your blog... let them know, and they lower the price! If everyone does it, it will be free (like Appzapper was). Good luck to us!
- DonJuanMAC, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2If I can get a free license I will find some use for the program. Giving it a try it is pretty powerful desktop search utility. I found items I did not think would appear under a search, but then again normally I know where everything is at so I rarely have to search.
- kmarchiori, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4It's probably because I was a little too profane, but hey, I don't want to see Digg get exploited. Thats all I care about here. Mod me down, hope we can still mod people down on this site in the future though. We won't if Digg gets killed by ads.
- pbzvariety, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0HoudahSpot worked rather nicely... I've been tired with Spotlight eating up all my RAM, before I even finished typing the word. Thank goodness for 3rd party app makers.
- YHCIR, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It's a good idea, but doesn't seem like it will work for anyone apart from the software company, they just under 300 people to blog it within 16 hours, then they start giving away free licenses (5000)?
If it works, then it's pretty nice, but getting that many people to post on their blog/write a small review is really high. So until that happens, it's almost free advertising. Good idea though. - jayceehi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Let's get this puppy down to zero....Zero is good
Ywh - kmarchiori, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2No, it has nothing to do with the app, I said that before, but it probably got modded down. Seems cool, but the ad strategy doesn't.
- Otto, on 10/12/2007, -5/+3"Crazy as it may seem, our goal is to give away 5'000 licenses."
That doesn't seem crazy. You're trying to make your product more well known. Seems like an obvious thing to do.
Too bad it's a Mac product, or I'd be interested. As it stands, I'll stick with Google Desktop. - felchdonkey, on 10/12/2007, -9/+7Why are people modding down kmarchiori's comment? This post is obviously spam, he's just pointing that out.
If people don't mark SPAM on these things, Digg will turn into a dumping ground for every "viral" campaign that can't afford banner ads. - cmiz, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2I'd certainly agree that this is advertising... I think whether or not you care about it is what defines it as spam. I think it's a neat idea and it looks like a decent app. Obviously you don't. To each their own...
- felchdonkey, on 10/12/2007, -9/+3This is SPAM.
This poster has only submitted three things, all from HoudahSpot, and obviously is the same person who wrote the blog post at HoudahSpot. - kmarchiori, on 10/12/2007, -8/+2Im glad someone else sees it too, fight the good fight brother.
- gharding, on 10/12/2007, -8/+1So this is a $15 frontend to `find`? Free or not, no thanks.
- brendanc, on 10/12/2007, -9/+2Dude, take a freaking chill pill. I don't see you complaining about all the Apple/Ipod/NewTrend press.
- IQ70, on 10/12/2007, -11/+2This scheme is just like those free iPod sign-ups. Email spam, blog spam, same difference.
- kmarchiori, on 10/12/2007, -22/+10Who dug this advertising stunt? Probably employees of the company. What a bunch of crap. Take your *****-shoveling somewhere else.
