Today iPhone Gets Bejeweled by PopCap For Free!
gamestooge.com — Many folks waited in line, in the United States, to get their fingerprints on an iPhone. Today, it all becomes worth while for casual gamers and their sleak black Apple designed mobile phone product. PopCap Games announces Bejeweled for the iPhone...
- 710 diggs
- digg it
- nextsteposx, on 10/10/2007, -3/+45It's a shame Popcap has to resort to ajax and hacks just to get a game on the iphone.
Apple please hurry your A** up and release a gaming sdk, because we all know games are coming sooner or later... - NorthernPlato, on 10/10/2007, -4/+13Bejeweled on the iPhone? That's almost enough to get me to cross the border to get one =) Too bad these things aren't available in Canada yet, Bejeweled on my Motorola is starting to look old.
- benitojuarez, on 10/10/2007, -5/+4I dunno bejeweled looks fine on my motorola ( http://img19.imageshack.us/img19/5087/sshot000hk8.png ), and I can't imagine it would be fun playing a touch version on the iphone without a stylus unless you have really tiny fingers. The iphone doesnt come with a stylus right? Sorry for the screenshot, im bored and have nothing better to do with my time right now.
- Mikecol, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Your screenshot didn't look very impressive to me. And Bejeweled works just fine on iPhone without a stylus.
- braddial, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1It's actually very easy to play without a stylus. No harder to play than on a phone with directional keys.

- TomPlansMedia, on 10/10/2007, -1/+24man, it cost me like $6 to get this on my razr, maybe there is an upside to web apps...
- pak314, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3It came free with my $20 phone from Virgin Mobile.
- stalefries, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Are you sure it wasn't just a demo?
- pak314, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3It came free with my $20 phone from Virgin Mobile.
- DiggsOnlyNeoCon, on 10/10/2007, -2/+43Well... this settles it. No longer do I think $600 is too much for a phone.
- oldtimegamer, on 10/10/2007, -2/+25I agree, now that they have Bejeweled I can see the iPhone reaching at least $2,000 a pop. I mean who needs voice mail when you have Bejeweled?
- jj9000, on 10/10/2007, -4/+7Honestly, this "story" reached FP with 29 diggs. WTF?!
- oldtimegamer, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9seriously, where have you been. New to digg?
- robdazomba, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Gosh, it would either have to a) a vast Mac-wing conspiracy to control the hearts and minds of Digg users everywhere or b) a user tracking algorithm that goes beyond diggs alone and maybe takes into account how many times the link is clicked or the time of day and speed of those diggs and the types of users digging it.
Oh no, that last idea is just nuts. Computers can't do that. It's too complicated. It's definitely a conspiracy.
- Davisourus, on 10/10/2007, -18/+4... people are dying in Darfur.
- Zinite, on 10/10/2007, -1/+11Shut up.
- oldtimegamer, on 10/10/2007, -0/+15How about you move there and save them then? I dont think the comment system on digg.com is really going to be your platform for change.
- HA5TY, on 10/10/2007, -7/+2finally!!
Tilt was getting old!
Tilt: http://www.xeodesign.com/games/tilt/ - cvp1, on 10/10/2007, -1/+25http://static.popcap.com/iphone/

- HA5TY, on 10/10/2007, -2/+8or, just http://www.Popcap.com it redirects you
- aduelley, on 10/10/2007, -4/+1They should give a free downloads of this game for macs too, and i guess PCs
- SPECOPS, on 10/10/2007, -2/+1Just spoof the iPhone user-agent.
- jabberwolf, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0Um they do offer it for PCs, not sure about Macs, but and yes this download or browser play has been available for awhile now for smartphones as an actual app not just a web app.
- Brick86, on 10/10/2007, -17/+12Brand new iPhone- $600
Bejeweled for iPhone- $0
The fact that the iphone cannot play any flash based games- priceless - ShooterMcGavin, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3I like bejeweled 2 better...
- Typhoon2009, on 10/10/2007, -4/+10HOLY ***** BEJEWELED
- ShrimpCrackers, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I cant wait when it comes out for PS3, finally justify the cost of this system.
- pr5owner, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2sorry i like Bejeweled 2 valentines ed on my TyTN for free too, and mine is a APPLICATION I INSTALL, not some webpage, i dont need the internet to play a game
- halik, on 10/10/2007, -5/+18STOP THE PRESSES!
Someone made a javascript game game that works in a browser... amazing. Here's another Brand New IPHONE EXCLUSIVE game of tic tac toe : http://javascript.internet.com/games/tic-tac-toe.html
... oh wait, that's just a javascript tutorial. - robdazomba, on 10/10/2007, -10/+5I know this is off topic so bury me if you must but the comments about the iPhone being overpriced are sort of getting old. If you don't like Bejewelled or the iPhone, why are you here commenting on it? Go out and read any analysis of the real cost of cell phones and you'll know that you're still paying a bundle for the so-called free and cheap phones but the cost is hidden in the contract you end up signing to get that freebie phone. It's a shell game, and Apple is the only player in this arena who has come forward and said no to that game and just charged you up front what you pay for other phones anyway. It seems we're so comfortable with being lied to by cell phone companies and service providers that we refuse to recognize and appreciate a little honesty when we see it. I say more power to Apple. They've raised the bar quite a bit in what has been so far a cesspool of a market.
- Mapper99, on 10/10/2007, -1/+0Ooh..that hurts!
http://iphone.corank.com - DiggsOnlyNeoCon, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2So... iPhone users don't have a contract?
- GawtMilk, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Wait, you think that no phones come with games? My old Nokia which I got for free with a $9.99 a month service came with Snake 2, a racing game, hangman, a couple puzzle games. These days, almost all phones have games built-in.
Not only that, but the iPhone itself comes with a contract and there is NO other way to get it. When other phones cost nothing with a $1200 / year contract, the iPhone costs $600 with a $1200 / year contract.- xerexes1, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1So, you paid $9.99 per month or $119.88 per year - for an undisclosed amount of time - but you got a "free" cellphone. What type of air time did you get?
- Mapper99, on 10/10/2007, -1/+0Ooh..that hurts!
- microbreak, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1If you are using Safari Browser, http://static.popcap.com/iphone/
- DCstewieG, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Worked fine for me in Firefox
- garstman, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0Works in IE7 too :) Has anyone tested this on the Wii Yet?
- MaceSoul, on 10/10/2007, -3/+3I just checked it out, it sucks compared to the one on my HTC phone. Do you really have to click two places to get a jewel to flip on an iphone rather than drag like you do on a Smartphone? That's lame.
- ChristianBk, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5Boohoo! At least it's a functional game of Bejewled on a gaming-starved phone. Were you expecting, essentially, a "first generation" game on a phone that has no games to be better than a "x-amount of revisions" game of Bewjeweled on a smartphone?
- MaceSoul, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3I should expect less from something called the Jesus Phone?
- thecraigmcrae, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4am i the only one who mistook bejeweled for bedazzled and half expected a rhinestone covered ipod?
- surfing, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I was looking for an iphone with rhinestones.
- pixelbasic, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8Was I the only one expecting to see an iPhone 'blinged-out' in those awful costume jewelry stick-ons?
- taylooooor, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Apparently not. ^^^
- apexified, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Now if we could just get A.R.C. for the the iPhone...
- antifreze, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1DUGG for knowing the 1st game that the founders created while at Purdue University - Attack Retrieve Capture -
- hotdamn, on 10/10/2007, -2/+4anyone else caught themselves playing this for an hour after they read this?
- MaceSoul, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3When I first got it, 3 years ago.
Poor Apple maniacs having the same problem on their phone they have on their Macs; stale old lame games on thier brand new hardware.
- MaceSoul, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3When I first got it, 3 years ago.
- wisiwyg, on 10/10/2007, -2/+1By making it a web app, they can get you hooked & then start charging, right?
- jabberwolf, on 10/10/2007, -4/+10Yet another thing the iphone can do,
that smartphones can and HAVE been doing for awhile now.
Fantastic!Yeah again for Applefans... so innovative ? - FuLouZero, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4You have several pockets, put a DS lite in one.
- oldtimegamer, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Bravo!
- OrangeTide, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1I have a PalmOS phone. So I can install hundreds of crappy games on it for free. Including Nethack!
- tricknology, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0I get your point but Bejeweled is not available on the DS.
- FuLouZero, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1There's Zoo Keeper, it's about the same if not cooler.
- speaker219, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4You can also play it on a regular computer for free here
http://everything0.googlepages.com/home?bejewled- sudowrestler, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0thanks
- gsiener, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Thank you, thank you thank you!!
- OrangeTide, on 10/10/2007, -3/+2Wait AJAX? does that mean you're using up minutes accessing the network with it?
- likwidfuzion, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1No you're simply playing on the Internet.
- najdorf, on 10/10/2007, -6/+1popcap sucks
- keeron, on 10/10/2007, -2/+0 Finally something worthwhile to justify the $600
- PJBonoMan, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0I really hope that was sarcasm...
- Skitals, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2I'm sorry, but web apps don't cut it. At least on a phone when you want to conserve battery and network usage (and need to worry about having network coverage at all). What happens when you're in the subway? You're iPhone is pretty much limited to an iPod (which isn't so bad, really).
- pinchies, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Dude, its not run off the network the entire time. If you go through a tunnel playing it you will still be able to keep playing, It's just for loading that it uses the network. Kinda like flash games I guess. Speaking of which....
Web apps are not going to reach the feel os a desktop app on an iphone any time soon, but this is a good effort!

- Hidama, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Forget a separate battery for music... Bejeweled!
- MaceSoul, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Why are people saying the iPhone "gets" Bejeweled for free rather than "anyone with a browser" gets Bejeweled for free?
- pinchies, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0I think it's because the rest of the web uses the quick and (sometimes) dirty flash, which can be easier to work with at times. Personally i prefer javascript, and it does seem to give cleaner results. The screen size is small too, compared to computer editions of the game.
- PJBonoMan, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0No, it's because iPhone owners are idiots and will respond to this sort of spin. THAT is why.

- jinushaun, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1This looks and plays very close to Diamenty. Glad to see it's actually made by the same person!
- bethyb, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0Uh.... I've had Diamenty as a Mojit for awhile, why is this news? It's still an app within Safari...
