- goat77, on 10/12/2007, -11/+106alwaysMC2, I think you just failed at life.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -44/+125Did you know on a Mac you can listen to music, make movies and use podcasts. I don't know how anybody using Windows could EVER do this. I mean, have you ever heard of a music player or a movie maker from Microsoft? I sure as hell haven't.
I mean, look at all the new and imaginative ideas Apple is showing us with these ads. Listening to audio files, using the internet, interacting with a digital camera, etc. Cutting edge stuff. And right out of the box you say? Good luck catching up to that, Microsoft! - matthiasgoodman, on 10/12/2007, -10/+68I think he was being sarcastic.
- RadiantBeing, on 10/12/2007, -9/+59Does your monitor have 480x640 resolution or was that meant to be a poem?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yQutfykOX1U - Marku$, on 10/12/2007, -16/+42I would like to report this as innacurate. These videos are purported to be "hilarious". this is an un-truth-atude.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -12/+35ridgelawrence, better how? Cite specific examples where a specific piece of software that is ONLY available for the Mac can do something noticibly better that NO software that is compatible with Windows can do at equivalent quality.
I'm waiting. - tinkafoo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+21They need a guy saying "Hi, I'm a Dell" while he's standing there with his head on fire.
- etruscan, on 10/12/2007, -6/+24I hate these ads with a passion. I like the way they attack "PC's" and not "Windows" in particular. Yet, as much as I hate their slanted campaign, I've got to admit there is a certain degree of truth to it. As far as video connectivity, wireless networking, and digital camera connectivity goes - these are all operations which are far easier to perform on a Mac.
...that's likely a result of less third party interference on Apple products, but it still stands.
Having said that, I would never use a Mac for seriously accomplishing anything. I know it can be done, but for me - it's not with the same ease I manage on the PC. - SupaDawg, on 10/12/2007, -4/+19I've used both Linux & various editions of macOS. I still was entertained by these. They throw Apples arrogance right back in their faces. Priceless.
- mDot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14He's black. It's OK to say it.
- palatka, on 10/12/2007, -4/+18i like the one with the african american macbook
- titlesaysitall, on 10/12/2007, -7/+20Yeah but according to CNet it can beat a UMPC.
- SupaDawg, on 10/12/2007, -7/+20"hardware obsolescence"
Maybe you should get a new monitor. 640*480 is long dead, that was the most painful comment i've ever read. - pu-z, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13My Newton can:
Surf the web
Retrieve and send email
Play games
Do inventory
Surf wireless
Connect to a Bluetooth phone w/o much hassle
Do calendaring
Play MP3
Play video files
Last 27 hours on a charge
Be smaller than the UMPC
It hasn't had a battery change in 9 freakin' years and still holds enough charge for a work week
^--- Ditto for everything else in it
Faster than the UMPC I tried, at the same tasks
Costs 60 USD
Apart from colour and bulk, seriously: what is the improvement in the UMPC? I'd love to switch away from the Newton, hell, I'd take Windows if they offered some REAL improvement:
Ultimate handwriting recognition.
99,999% Speech recognition
100 GB+ hard drive
AT LEAST 20 hours battery time
Wifi, BT, Gigabit Enet - kanecorp, on 10/12/2007, -8/+20Couldn't be less funny.
- dan_s, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13Well as much as the "I'm a mac" commercials are annoying, these were pretty funny. Particularly the Linux/BSD one.

show me a windows app that can edit HD material as well as Final Cut HD - ascheinberg, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10Um... are these videos supposed to be funny? They're really ... not.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10Yes, it's true that you can do anything in Cakewalk that can be done in Garageband (and more), but have you priced it lately? It is $500... so Garageband ($79 with iLife/Free on a new mac) is in a different league... For the price, it is an amazing piece of software...
- alwaysmc2, on 10/12/2007, -6/+13@
Yeah, but what about apps for windows that are not "GarageBand" but are equivalents or Superior. FruityLoops is great, as is Magix. I'm sure there are programs that are even better than those, but I haven't wanted to do any audio/video editing in years. - MacDork, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Not all blacks are African-American. Not all African-Americans are black.
Some blacks are from the Caribbean. Lots of white African-Americans are from South Africa. - Linkage155, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7I don't know why you guys still complain about spyware and viruses. To be truthful with you, I haven't gotten on since what like 4 years ago? You just need to lean how to use a computer, "CLICK HERE TO GET A FREE!!!!!1 iPOD!" does not work dudes..
- scrubadub, on 10/12/2007, -15/+22They got one thing right, the apple newton did suck
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I will concede that Final Cut is an industry standard and a superior video editing platform.
- Alchemeron, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I guess we've proved that "hilarious" is a relative term.
- NoirDigg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I switch to Mac, its awesome and it is the main OS i use, but I still use PC for some things, like programming asp .NET apps. I don't find the need to bad mouth any of the platforms, mind you that I like Mac way better, it seems useless to do that. Whatever platform you use , use it and enjoy, don't worry about the other...just enjoy.
- MiamiGuy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8I'm surprised Microsoft hasn't retaliated with a "Well I can play all those loads of pc games that everybody likes"
- SupaDawg, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7I guess thats a 1:1 . I Switched from a mac to a PC myself a few years back.
- Akaji, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9Bursting at the scenes? Either that was a very bad pun, or you meant seams.
- Drealoth, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6He's the vengeful Linux guy, typing this in with ed through a terminal.

SubEthaEdit, with Rendevouz live group editing. A SW company overe here (Oslo) are pondering a swiutch to Mac just because of that ingenoius piece of programming. - gameboyhippo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6The big differences between BSD and Linux are their kernels. A BSD varient will use the BSD kernel and a Linux varient will use the Linux kernel. As a result, their binaries are not interchangable without recompiling or using a compatibility layer.
They are similar in the fact that they both can run the same kinds of programs (see above). But that's about it when it comes to similarities. - goat77, on 10/12/2007, -10/+15Yeah, cause we all know how accurate cnet is... (inaccurate definition of vaporware)
- bobmagoo, on 10/12/2007, -16/+21@ ilyag
what about garageband? - DASH, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Funniest one it the black mac, "I have a bigger HD and I run faster" Classic!

This must be what film school students are doing on campuses across America. I bet their parents are proud. /Sarcasm - inkswamp, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4> I like the way they attack "PC's" and not "Windows" in particular.
They're not attack ads. I'm not sure why PC users are so sensitive about these ads, especially considering how quick some of you are to lecture us Macs users about these things just being machines, not lifestyle choices. That being the case, why are so many PC users getting in such a huff?
The ads are not attacking anything other than Apple's image. Apple has, for the last 15 years or so, allowed themselves to be defined largely by people who hate Macs. I still deal with people from time-to-time who think Macs can't multitask or that they crash constantly or that there are no applications or that they are as prone to viruses as PCs. And Apple's response to that has been a long series of largely ineffectual artsy-fartsy ads with iMacs flying around to Rolling Stones soundtracks. Apple is finally using their advertising to counter those myths about Macs, not to attack PCs per se. IMO, this is LONG overdue. Apple should have been doing this ages ago. - ascheinberg, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5@Hitchhiker
"They really are funny, you just have no sense of humor."
Uh... no. You don't know me. I have a great sense of humor, but these simply aren't funny. See, what they do is take something this crowd already is into -- the Mac ads -- and just build on that. I get it - ooh! look! there's that Mac commercial we done seen and it features Linux! Haw haw! But they still aren't funny.
Nobody who uses Macs are as clueless as that Mac guy. Nobody who runs Linux is that dorrky. The PC is an arrogant prick. These ads are ripe for the spoofing, but these just aren't that funny. - tedwardo2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Apple makes an African-American MacBook!?!?
- ridgelawrence, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4@ilyag
Yeah ok, The iLife suite has great programs that are FREE and work Great. For Windows it has WMP, oh man wow, Its not even comparable to iTunes. (yes itunes is for windows too but im talking about stock program, out of the box. Should i go on... ok, Safari, Beauty meats reliable, not even comparable to IE. oh and iMovie, ask any video editor which is better, iMovie or Windows Movie Maker. Awh, what about iWeb, windows is out of luck there. And way more.
Yeah you can get programs but most of them cost money.
Oh and I almost forgot... Parallels!
I can do everything you windows folks do and way more with OS X. - speaker219, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4http://www.duggmirror.com/apple/Three_hillarious_new_Mac_spoofs/

You ARE a silly one!
Yes, I use Garageband for putting down quick music ideas. Then, I load the same Garageband sessions into Logic Pro 7.2.1 (Heard of it?) to produce full-blown pro recording sessions for major labels. Logic Pro 7 OWNS Cubase & FruityLoops!
Plus, there's Digital Performer from www.motu.com. MoTU was making MIDI sequencers for Macs back in 1986. Digital Performer is the premier MIDI sequencer. They schooled EVERYONE from Opcode to Pro Tools.
Glad to see the Windows crowd finally starting to get into this pro music game. Who knows? Maybe Dell will start winning Grammys, Oscars and various TEC awards like Apple.....
Yeah, right! - afx1, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6touche?
- Mudbeast, on 10/12/2007, -6/+9@ilyag
No really Garageband is way more than a sequencer.
And I've used all the software you mentioned (Cubase, blechhcchc)
(Audacity? compared to Garageband are you ***** up on paint?!)
and yup sorry garageband is better/more intuitive than any of them.
Granted I dont use my Mac for anything other than recording in Garageband/Logic.
I use my linux box for movies/music/everything else. - pu-z, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I see you still haven't addressed SubEthaEdit [http://www.codingmonkeys.de/subethaedit/], I'll take that as a compliment.
From their FAQ: «Any chance of a *nix or Windows version? We love developing Macintosh applications with Cocoa and are determined to improve SubEthaEdit on that platform. We currently have neither resources nor experience to port our products to other platforms.»
Nearest thing I've seen for the PC is Google Writely... -
