- homercles337, on 11/05/2009, -21/+168How about grouping them into useful and useless? 99% would fall into the useless category with the remaining 1% being apps that are basic functionality in any other OS.
- legendxx, on 11/05/2009, -3/+112And a Lite/Free app for every one with a pricetag.
- Shawn4168, on 11/05/2009, -7/+112How do internal server errors explain how there are 100,000 apps?
- TheVirus, on 11/05/2009, -8/+50Great. I love tiny screen shots that require me to put my nose on the monitor in order to see what the ***** I'm looking at.
- densetsu23, on 11/05/2009, -1/+43More like 10%.
FTA: "Of course that’s not the only reason there are over 100,000 apps in the App Store. There are over 10,000 eBooks in the App Store, and their numbers are increasing fast!" - BigStare, on 11/05/2009, -17/+58Better yet, save some money and buy a Droid. ***** APPLE!
- Genma, on 11/05/2009, -1/+40with a reload button, there's an app for that
- VictoryGin, on 11/05/2009, -7/+40So, since you've found 7 apps out of over 100,000 that aren't useless, your not proving him right, how?
- Mankind121, on 11/05/2009, -2/+34The number of applications in the app store is like when Comcast calls every program available on-demand its own individual channel
- ProjectGSX, on 11/05/2009, -13/+45Not to mention a good percentage of those 100k apps are e-books, as well. I believe the number is around 20%?
- nickels, on 11/05/2009, -5/+35The iPhone isn't a universal remote. It uses wifi, 3g, and edge, not infrared. DUUUUUUUUUUUH
- bbqribs, on 11/05/2009, -6/+34Apple recently booted one prolific App Store developer that was doing stuff like that. They were creating dozens and dozens of apps that effectively did the same thing.
By the way, the Android Market is no better. I'd say that it's actually worse because there's nobody really overseeing what applications make it into the Market. As a result, there are hundreds of complete crap applications and duplicate apps. - chrispix99, on 11/05/2009, -1/+29As an Android developer, it really does hurt. We released an update to our app, which allows you to pop to the top of the recent updates list. Unfortunately we did not notice until later that a developer was pushing out 50+ apps. Each one to read the news for a local tv station in different markets. We ended up getting lost in the mess. I almost wish they could create sub-groups for apps. Say I have a game, I have the full version and the demo. Let me click on the game, and choose to purchase the game, or download demo. Or for one of the baseball team examples. Let me choose the baseball app, and then select what team I want...
- Charlotte_Web, on 11/05/2009, -8/+34Another 10% are fart apps.
- BubblesTheChimp, on 11/05/2009, -2/+25Those!
- chrispix99, on 11/05/2009, -7/+30I think you made his point. The other 99,993 apps in the app store must be useless or you would have them all installed.
- FelixDrylock, on 11/05/2009, -3/+25he's not bashing, he's telling the truth. I have an iPhone, and I love it, but that doesn't mean I'm going to pretend like it's the perfect phone/platform like the Apple fanboys.
- Cepster, on 11/05/2009, -0/+22AND FOORK YOU DORRPHINNS!!!!
- stuartjmoore, on 11/05/2009, -1/+21That would require an IR attachment ($0.02 worth of hardware in the headphone jack), which you can't really download...
- Asianwaste, on 11/05/2009, -19/+38Cydia > Apps Store
- al1encas1no, on 11/05/2009, -4/+22http://rorr.im
- raydeen, on 11/05/2009, -0/+16You could just get up and change the channel you know.
- jrm125, on 11/05/2009, -0/+16none of you obviously looked at the images used in the article. Nice job fellas.
- MWeather, on 11/05/2009, -1/+17You could use a payphone you know.
- sirbeta, on 11/05/2009, -4/+19You could have clicked the "All Sizes" button to see the original size.
- DPowers08, on 11/05/2009, -1/+15Surprised they didn't mention all those apps that provide "one touch" phone or SMS access to Mom, Dad, brother, sister, Grandama, girlfriend, etc...
- NeoTechni, on 11/05/2009, -1/+14"What does that have to do with anything? This is about apps for smartphone"
Windows Mobile has far more apps than iphone does. - gurbinav, on 11/05/2009, -4/+17Remember also that 80% of the apps are flashlights of varying colours.
- crispynoodle, on 11/05/2009, -0/+13I dont really like iphones, but thats a great reply :-)
- dreamtenstudios, on 11/05/2009, -3/+15Quantity != Quality
- Turbojugend27, on 11/05/2009, -0/+12You could not watch TV and do something more useful you know.
- Hellicus, on 11/06/2009, -1/+13Android Market > App Store
- tgfoo, on 11/05/2009, -4/+15What does that have to do with anything? This is about apps for smartphone, not your computer's operating system. And while there are a lot of crap apps in the App Store I'll bet that when the Android app store reaches 100,000 apps there will be just as much crap in there as well.
- 11oops, on 11/05/2009, -3/+14Something tells me you don't either catpuke. And something else tells me that you're probably about 14 years old.
- 1town, on 11/05/2009, -6/+16So there's alot of crap amongst Apple's 100k apps.
Are, for instance, Android Store's 10k apps all gold? - palmer, on 11/05/2009, -2/+11"A 4-track recording application"
Really? How are you getting four tracks of audio into the thing?
And once you have a recording on the phone, how are you getting it back to the computer (since third-party apps can't sync data)? - crispynoodle, on 11/05/2009, -4/+13You could just use your tv's remote you know.
- dreamtenstudios, on 11/05/2009, -2/+10you're a dork.
- ptoomey, on 11/05/2009, -2/+9Gotta love crapplications.
- Elranzer, on 11/05/2009, -6/+13Windows Mobile now, and Palm OS back in its day, have far more apps in number and usefulness than iPhone OS. Seriously, it's just for dicking around. The actual useful ***** if on Windows Mobile.
- mbst2000, on 11/05/2009, -1/+8Way to make ***** up out of thin air guys!
- spargonaut, on 11/05/2009, -3/+10i wonder what the total number would be if all of those "app for each state" and "app for each team" were consolidated into one.
- stainboy, on 11/05/2009, -0/+6what's just as annoying are the developers who not only put out hundreds of apps that do nearly the same thing, but raise and lower the prices of groups of these apps daily to show up on the price tracker sites. fortunately some trackers have caught on and have built in the ability to block an app author from appearing on the list.
it only takes a few ***** to ruin it for everybody. - DemDude, on 11/06/2009, -0/+5So what you were saying is that you got the impression that the store was like that from never even having a look at it? You, sir, should be on Fox News or something!
- Frozenfuryblade, on 11/06/2009, -1/+6@1town:
I wouldn't call e-books "a lot of crap."
An e-book can offer just as much entertainment as a solid game, and much more than any fart app. - hsadear, on 11/05/2009, -16/+21more like crappstore
- VitriolAndAngst, on 11/05/2009, -2/+7Sorry your factual story about quality control is just not going to please the people who want to rant about the app button for the color blue, and it's sequel the app button for the color red.
I've got at least 70 apps I enjoy, they aren't duplicated (except for 4 games that do various types of Tower Defense), and I really don't care what these idiots say. - Hellicus, on 11/06/2009, -2/+7THIS!
I hate that everyone says the iPhne is better than other phones (Droid, Eris, HTC Hero, etc) just because of the apps.... A friend of mine has an iPhone, and when I borrowed it to browse the app store, I saw the massive ammount of ***** apps on it...
Seriously, the iPhone is on the "***** tier" of the smartphones... - ohreilly, on 11/05/2009, -1/+5This is where S60 excels. I remember once having a remote application for my S60 phone at the time.
Even my N95 8GB has infrared. Nokia FTW. - Asianwaste, on 11/06/2009, -1/+5indeed
