- HookmasterCH47, on 06/04/2008, -1/+48I've given up trying to figure out what Apple is going to do, and I've been happier ever since.
- svensksvamp, on 06/03/2008, -4/+37Super Monkey Ball.
- championchap, on 06/04/2008, -3/+29That most of the applications released for it are clumsy and unusable.
I'd rather use something more tightly regulated and get higher quality apps overall. - inactive, on 06/04/2008, -5/+29Kevin Rose already has the new Iphone. But he doesn't know if it will blend. In a way, I pity the man.
- swatward, on 06/04/2008, -6/+25GTA IV?

Yes, I've always thought the one thing that would make my computing experience better is somebody having tight control over what I install on my machines.
Somebody is going to chime in and say phones are different than computers. Even assuming you buy that argument (and I don't know why you would) there are better solutions. Apple could make it a default setting that the iPhone will only run signed apps, but still make it easy for those who want to develop or install applications without the "protection" of Steve Jobs.
There's no reason you should have to hack a device you own just so you can install applications that haven't been blessed by the manufacturer. Disruptive applications are normally the best kind. - Zippo, on 06/04/2008, -0/+9Might as well just call in sick and camp out in front of your computer with a bowl of popcorn.
- Appleologist, on 06/04/2008, -0/+9meebo.com is by far the best
- 1platypus, on 06/04/2008, -1/+10They already said they would.
- superjunaid, on 06/04/2008, -0/+8I wish Spore comes out on Monday! but most likely we might have to wait till November (release date for the game consoles/pc/mac platforms) Unless its a separate team altogether!
- overbyte, on 06/04/2008, -2/+10this just in - air good to breathe
- Sunzi, on 06/04/2008, -1/+9Would be cool if it got some kind of app for streaming music to your Airport Express.
- davidlyness, on 06/04/2008, -9/+15And what exactly was wrong with Installer.app?
- DiggyWiggy, on 06/04/2008, -1/+7I want:
1) Comic Reader/eBook Reader App
2) Crossword Puzzle App
3) iChat
4) Slingplayer
5) Finder
6) Print Function
7) Copy/Paste Function
8) Google Earth
9) Tetris
10) Freecell
11) Texas Hold 'Em
12) Chess
13) Drug Wars
14) Decent RPG
15) Poppit
16) Netflix Instant Viewing App
Is that so much to ask? Why, yes, probably all at one time.... - bluemist, on 06/04/2008, -4/+10I certainly hope most of those apps can run on my iPod touch...
...and I'm willing to pay yet another 20$ to get the App Store. I feel it's more worth it this time. - outz, on 06/04/2008, -4/+10i doubt they'll charge you to download an app thats used to buy software from them. if so... wtf?
- louiemantia, on 06/04/2008, -0/+6It most likely won't be Monday. There are still a few things that need to be fixed as far as the SDK goes, and 3rd party developers can't make their apps perfect quite yet because of it. Not to mention, Apple has to moderate all of the applications, so it will probably be announced that the App Store will open on the 27th.
- christ0fer, on 06/04/2008, -4/+10SPORE ALL THE WAY!!! i hate installer.app
- punkcat, on 06/04/2008, -1/+6u can put free stuff on the store if you want.
- EtherGnat, on 06/04/2008, -0/+5@roderick
I respect your *choice* to take your car to the dealer for service, but I wouldn't support Lincoln welding the hood shut.
Likewise I have nothing against Apple having an optional certification for software and their own online store for applications.
It's all about choice. Until Apple realizes that I'll exercise my choice to buy other phones which don't have the same restrictions.
"I will gladly pay for software that has been approved over something a 13 year old did on the weekend."
Nice false dichotomy. I'd imagine you use quality software every day on your desktop computer that wasn't "approved" by Microsoft or Apple. - tacotruck08, on 06/04/2008, -0/+5starcraft: ghost.
- wildcatcs, on 06/04/2008, -1/+6He has a point, Apple just released that they are GIVING away ipod touches if you buy a mac for educational reasons. This shows the uptake isn't as great for the touch as they wanted.
If they would stop punishing people who bought the touch maybe they would have a larger user base. - swatward, on 06/04/2008, -1/+5Also, /Sarcasm.
- nvisn, on 06/04/2008, -0/+4Satire FTMFW!
- Dralite, on 06/04/2008, -1/+5Sex with Megan Fox please (with head)
- jonthebishop, on 06/04/2008, -0/+4From the article:
"which could also imply that Apple's App Store will be up and running that day."
It could also be that Steve is going to demo their app on Monday, launch could mean a lot of things. I am in the developer program and have the beta software, if the app store opens on Monday it would be with no warning to developers. The exchange support is still kinda buggy and that is one of the bigger things about 2.0, at least from an enterprise standpoint. Don't expect this to happen.
Burried as inaccurate. - cawpin, on 06/04/2008, -0/+4In my pants.
I can't believe that was actually a legitimate response. - historyfool24, on 06/04/2008, -0/+3Netflix app? well there goes my battery
- xoineg, on 06/04/2008, -0/+3someone has a little crush on old steve....i dont think he is gay dude!!!
- meghalc, on 06/04/2008, -1/+4How about a Home screen Calendar plugin like windows mobile? That would make me want to buy the Iphone.
- EtherGnat, on 06/04/2008, -0/+3"This shows the uptake isn't as great for the touch as they wanted."
No it doesn't. Apple gives away iPods with educational purchases every year around this time. - Zippo, on 06/04/2008, -1/+4I wish they'd just hurry up and bring the damn iPhone to Canada...
- bigsteve, on 06/04/2008, -0/+3I agree with championchap that a lot of the apps aren't great, but some of them are really good. Myself, I'll most likely do both. The jailbreak will be for the odd app that I want that Apple didn't deem worthy. Not likely to be many, but might be a few. Secondly, I'll probably jailbreak for more control over my phone... Keeping SSH turned on, ringtones, etc etc.
- P5ycHo, on 06/04/2008, -0/+2There will be free apps in the store
- robodud3, on 06/04/2008, -3/+5Its an iPod Touch. not an "ITouch" you wouldnt say "INano" or "IClassic".
- atticus8, on 06/04/2008, -0/+2Something about the arrogant, ignorant, and all-around spiteful nature of your post, jwoulf, led me to believe that this was not just an off-day for you, but that you were my favorite of all internet beings: a troll down to the bone. I thank you for not letting me down with your brilliant history of comments, which were all very pleasing.
1) First of all, you are childish enough to say Steve "Rim" Jobs, which is like the people that spell "Micro$oft", but even more puerile and ridiculous. This is acceptable only if you are a third-grader. Here be trolls, I believe.
2) That you actually posted "Burried for misspelling Kubuntu" is too wonderful. Arrogance and ignorance in only four words! We are now pulling into Ye Olde Troll Station.
3) You are one of those ***** that insists on calling the current presidential nominee "Barack HUSSEIN Obama", which makes you a racist troll - one of the most common breeds.
4) This comment was fun because it alternated subjects so quickly, representative of the spastic amygdala of only your most wrathful trolls: "Tritium light sources are completely safe. Please go die of AIDS." (But so polite!)
5) Finally (but I could go on) I love your business plan and hope you get many donations, for feeding the trolls is a magical way to spend an evening with family and friends: "I want to buy one just so I can destroy it. Mac Sux. Maybee I should set up a new domain and a paypal account so people can pay me to buy one of these things, and destroy it on video (yes, I know it's been done before)" - xoineg, on 06/04/2008, -2/+4How about Adiumx?...i dont mind paying for it specially if it is as good as the real version.
- thebuggalo, on 06/04/2008, -0/+2Slingbox!
- shauncorleone, on 06/04/2008, -0/+2I'm nearly embarassed to admit it, but I'm moving my lunch up from 12 to 1 (EST) so I can follow the bulk of the keynote at home, without feeling guilty (or running into content filter problems).
Is the only way to get the info going to be liveblogs, or will there be a webcast somewhere? - nvisn, on 06/04/2008, -1/+3beejive.com
- BrendanSheehan, on 06/05/2008, -0/+1Apollo
- Inspiron700m, on 06/04/2008, -0/+1It's coming soon after the announcement on Monday...big changes will be coming to data plans as well.
