- gopmesiah, on 12/26/2007, -0/+18My guess is, it'll be a day late and dollar too many.
- MacParrot, on 12/26/2007, -0/+17I played around with one of these at Macworld. Kind of cool at first, but then reason sets in as in: why the heck do I need a tablet computer? For all those time I just HAVE to edit a photoshop document while at 35,000 feet? Neat idea, but they cost almost $1000 more than the Macbook they use to produce it.
- llsethj, on 12/26/2007, -2/+15Too bad, Apple is about to release a touch interface mac at Macworld

- archer75, on 12/26/2007, -0/+6apple doesn't even make their own products. They have other companies do it. Companies that also build PC's and even use the same parts. There is nothing unique about the hardware in any of apples computers.
- inactive, on 12/26/2007, -0/+4I really don't get why more things don't have touch screens by now. It seems like we could have worked out the problematics and cost factors by this time.
- j0hnc0ry, on 12/26/2007, -0/+4It IS legal because it IS Apple hardware (logic board, efi, base, etc...)
- jmeskimen, on 12/27/2007, -1/+5I, don't think. That you know, what you are doing, when you are punctuating.
- inactive, on 12/27/2007, -0/+4Hope you don't work for any company as a coder..
- redfox2600, on 12/26/2007, -0/+3Or you can get a Tablet PC for ~$1000, which, IMO, is the best thing any college student will ever spend money on.
- maexus, on 12/26/2007, -0/+3A bigger version... like a tablet? I mean, as a medium, I can't imagine either one of those products being taller or wider for fat fingers and keep it's status as being a pocket portable. I hope nobodies kids themselves and thinks a non pocket portable cellphone would sell.
- spamfiltertest, on 12/26/2007, -2/+5I've been holding off on getting my new mac for two things: Leopard and a tablet.
Does anything think that Apple proper will be shipping a tablet? It would only be logical, especially with the perfection (so to say) in the iPod touch. - se1zure, on 12/26/2007, -1/+4a macbook touch would be stupid for designers, which is likely the majority of the tablet market (that and CAD users)
It would be better for apple to work with wacom and build in cintiq like screens - bxblox, on 12/27/2007, -0/+2syntax error at line: 1

- Klarth, on 12/26/2007, -0/+2Code jokes are only funny in code-related stories.
Stop. - drmobutu, on 12/26/2007, -0/+2I will be really surprised, and disappointed, if Apple doesn't have a tablet, or an e-book reader, at MacWorld, next week...at the very least, they should have a larger-screen ipod touch, with e-book capability.
- pyrates, on 12/27/2007, -0/+2The sad thing about all this is that a lot of the hardcore apple users won't buy this thing no matter how useful it is, because it isn't made by Apple. These are the ones that also defend Apple every chance they get.
- tsunamisteve, on 12/26/2007, -0/+2yes.
- chkdg8, on 12/26/2007, -2/+3Again, this is not going to benefit the everyday pc user. Yet. Designers, engineers, architects and personal assistants, sure. But people like you and I and to shell out $2500 for maybe a base model? I don't think so.
- Interestingness, on 12/27/2007, -0/+1iThought, err... 'Thunk" that this came out months ago. Why has there been such a stall on the modbook, someone said it, "day late and a dollar short."
http://ThunkDifferent.com - gasin, on 12/26/2007, -0/+1Wha'ts with the cd wheel thing asking me to take a ***** survey (and not giving me the close button instantly).
Dear Wired - users come first! - gordeaoux, on 12/27/2007, -0/+1nope, you only get to be picky when it actually exists and is sold
- Ireland, on 12/27/2007, -0/+1My bad, being drunk, is. . . , a bitch.
- dstory, on 12/26/2007, -1/+2Yawn!
- Ireland, on 12/27/2007, -1/+2 The way I see it, if Apple makes an 11", Leopard-enabled, Multi-touch, Mac tablet. Namely, Mac touch. About 15 mm in thickness, very light and extremely portable. Designers wouldn't be the market for that thing, that would be mainstream, and it would be huge.
- Ireland, on 12/27/2007, -0/+1I wouldn't hold my breath for Macworld, but I do expect a Mac touch tablet by Macworld 2009.
- se1zure, on 12/26/2007, -4/+5boolean interested;

< > are blocked in braquets... - archer75, on 12/26/2007, -2/+3Well anyone can buy the same parts that apple uses. Doesn't make it legal. Otherwise everyone would be selling thier own macs.
- inactive, on 12/26/2007, -0/+1My thing, is why have a "3rd party" release these, why is it not an offical apple release? I don't see myself purchasing a mod'd tablet, to have to get support from another company, when apple created no tablet software. Lame, that apple has yet to produce a tablet product, why not just create a swivel screen macbook, and throw in a tablet program and touch screen
- inactive, on 12/26/2007, -1/+2don't see it
- JasonCox, on 12/26/2007, -0/+1I'm not even a Mac fanboy but I got $20 bucks on this thing costing less than the Latitude XT
- jonshipman, on 12/27/2007, -0/+1I have been using a pen/pencil for near 19 years or so.
Far more intuitive. - Pogojoe, on 12/26/2007, -0/+1Liar - nothing as at the time stamp of this comment
http://www.google.com/news?q=digg&sourceid=navclie ... - nbx909, on 12/27/2007, -0/+1legally can they stop it?
it's a free market.
IE i can buy an ipod and mod the crap out of it to play cable tv if I wanted. - maexus, on 12/26/2007, -0/+1I must be mistaken but can you kindly point to a comment in this story stating Apple is innovating with this product? Might be difficult to claim considering the product in the story isn't made by Apple, it's a modded Apple product.
- archer75, on 12/26/2007, -0/+1Why would apple let a 3rd party develop a macbook?
- alwaysmc2, on 12/26/2007, -2/+2I just think it's ironic how Apple claims to be the leader of innovation, and yet if you pan your view just a few degrees over, you'll see Microsoft pumping out all these neat and useful technologies, as well as being an industry leader.
- leprix, on 12/27/2007, -1/+1"at the very least, they should have a larger-screen ipod touch, with e-book capability"
this is not going to happen. - skyshock1, on 12/26/2007, -1/+1Didn't Asus leak details about an official mac tablet a while back?
http://www.engadget.com/2007/11/06/apple-tablet-co ... - pyrates, on 12/27/2007, -1/+1Says who? It's a rumor until it is confirmed. And unless it comes from Apple itself, it ain't confirmed.
- victorh86, on 12/27/2007, -0/+0oh hell yeah. personally i dont really need devices like these, but they're just too cool.
- meteors, on 12/27/2007, -1/+1For years, this is what I've been saying I want from apple:
A unit about 18" long, a tablet computer, made from two thick pieces of curved plexiglass.
I want to be able to sit and use Adobe Illustrator just like I would sit and draw on a tablet of drawing paper. - djcabanaboycom, on 12/27/2007, -1/+1MacWorld Wishlist
Macbook:
Flash Hard-Drive, LED Screen, USB 3.0, Faster Processor
AppleTV/Mini:
Huge Hard-Drive, Blue-ray, Play any format with out a hack, Digital Netflix, DVR
iTouch:
65+ gig Flash Drive, WiFi sync, Apps, GPS - DaveClarkOne, on 12/30/2007, -1/+0This will thud like a bag of cement. How boring -- Apple may be able to pull this off, but the modbook is a certifiable dud.
- gmillerd, on 12/26/2007, -2/+1for for small number of people that really can make use of a tablet, not the crappy tablets that wintel brought us that had dinky screens and no features.
- Alphapsi12, on 12/26/2007, -3/+2I'm holding out for those ultra portable MacBook Pros that is suppose to be announce on the 15th of Jan. The idea of a tablet is intriguing but not for me at this moment.
- threemagic, on 12/26/2007, -2/+1That's the joke, son...
