Thin MacBook Laptop Concept Images
macrumors.com — With Macworld approaching, many concept designs are circulating to demonstrate how Apple might design the upcoming "thin" notebook. Our multitouch article generated a long discussion with a number of unofficial mockups posted. The most attractive, perhaps, is this image posted by kontheur: cl...

- DangerDaz, on 01/06/2008, -2/+15The first one seems to be the most plausible. We'll find out soon enough anyway.
- pdweinstein, on 01/06/2008, -14/+1No, I think the ultra-portable that docks into an iMac-like stand makes the most sense given Apple's design history (and patent application)
- RexMaxus, on 01/07/2008, -2/+16You're kinda dumb, has anyone told you that recently?
- fkr3, on 01/07/2008, -1/+8These novelty-sized touchpads don't seem very likely. Not unless Apple have magically created a way to tell when you're just resting or moving your palms. Not sure why that little detail hasn't occured to the rumour-creators but there's a reason why every notebook manufacturer leaves space for your palms...
- Ninjab3ar, on 01/07/2008, -3/+3Wow, As an Apple fan (sort of) and MacBook Pro owner, I hope all you fanboys choke after nothing is announced on Macworld.
- Konstantino, on 01/07/2008, -0/+1Why would you hope for that? Let everyone guess all they want, it isn't hurting anybody.
- Frost9999, on 01/07/2008, -0/+7I am continually amazed that the small children working in chinese manufacturing plants don't post pictures of all the new Apple stuff to the internet. Seriously... how do Apple keep things so secret?
- michaelb1, on 01/07/2008, -0/+4It's because they keep them segregated from the small children in the chinese camera manufacturing plants.
- pdweinstein, on 01/06/2008, -14/+1No, I think the ultra-portable that docks into an iMac-like stand makes the most sense given Apple's design history (and patent application)
- Ireland, on 01/06/2008, -1/+4This is the design we all want I think. It's hard to tell if the image is meant to be aluminum though, I think the real one will be anyway.
- bagelpirate, on 01/06/2008, -7/+56As if the current macbooks aren't thin enough
- Ireland, on 01/07/2008, -4/+41/2 as thin might also be 1/2 as light, dare say you don't want your MacBook to be half it's current weight? (if you have one of course)
- noots, on 01/07/2008, -6/+5i couldn' t move back to using a standard laptop after owning a Toshiba Portege R200 for over 2 years now, so thin and light, nothing else can compare.
that being said, if apple release a similar sized laptop, it will be hailed as innovation.... - thatsmyaibo, on 01/07/2008, -0/+3I agree. I think evolution is both good and bad for a product. Macs have always held their value well but if something new will be out every 6 months you can throw that out the window. The MB specs are fine. Let it have a decent life span before you jump on the next gimmick. The whole dock idea is pretty dumb anyways. It's an old concept that isn't that useful. Hell I'm still using an iBook G4.
- bigsteve, on 01/09/2008, -0/+1The Macbook was released in May of 2006, so almost 20 months ago.
- TaKz012, on 01/07/2008, -0/+2yeah its cool how thin they already are it makes them feel more sturdy and strong (although you wouldn't want to drop one!)
- beerbarron, on 01/06/2008, -1/+6Agreed, this looks quite thin...I didnt realize how thin mac books were till I was at work, on an HP laptop and thought boy this is bloated... that thing is getting close to credit card size
- anotherjeff, on 01/07/2008, -0/+1i dont think i would want a laptop that was as thick as a credit card
- kerpalh, on 01/06/2008, -7/+1So small, yet it still has power to run parallels. lol
- Daniel591992, on 01/07/2008, -0/+3and make a hole in your wallet!
- kerpalh, on 01/06/2008, -5/+11Why is the touchpad so long?
- cave, on 01/06/2008, -7/+6because long touchpad is long.
- drcreek, on 01/07/2008, -1/+1Evening Brother!
- theorem7, on 01/07/2008, -0/+8To account for the patent they filed a while back utilizing a multitouch touchpad on a laptop:
http://www.engadget.com/2007/08/09/revenge-of-appl ...
- cave, on 01/06/2008, -7/+6because long touchpad is long.
- Verdanic, on 01/06/2008, -3/+23That was a pretty ***** roundup.
- stalefries, on 01/06/2008, -3/+35My prediction: like always, none of the mockups will be anywhere close to accurate. Does anyone remember the iPhone mockups? Seriously, who would use a click wheel designed to look like a rotary dial?
- GeekyGerge, on 01/06/2008, -7/+3The Phat iPod mockups were pretty accurate
- DavisCollins, on 01/07/2008, -1/+11That's because the design was leaked.
- GeekyGerge, on 01/07/2008, -0/+1I must research more.
- zongamin, on 01/07/2008, -0/+1Imbecile.
- DavisCollins, on 01/07/2008, -1/+11That's because the design was leaked.
- Ireland, on 01/07/2008, -0/+4"Seriously, who would use a click wheel designed to look like a rotary dial?" Apple did that one to throw off the scent, that's why they joked about it.
- GeekyGerge, on 01/06/2008, -7/+3The Phat iPod mockups were pretty accurate
- Dynamo418, on 01/06/2008, -16/+4Hey guys, i just came to say these are all real. I work for Apple, and have a very high level job (Assistant to the regional manager), and i give this my personal guarantee of validity.
- ZigVicious, on 01/07/2008, -2/+3fail.
- Linkin4, on 01/07/2008, -0/+4He gave his personal guarantee!
- inspecality, on 01/07/2008, -0/+1assistant to the regional manager? keep working hard sempai, maybe you can be assistant regional manager.
- diggit23, on 01/06/2008, -1/+17I won't be completely satisfied until they are so thin they disappear when you look at them from the side...like Kate Moss, but slightly sexier.
- naonao, on 01/06/2008, -1/+8The second one looks the nicest, I'd just like to see a 13" Macbook with Macbook Pro design, and ultra-thin.
- DaleoftheUK, on 01/07/2008, -5/+6Yes, my Macbook is far to thick, come on Apple make a thin one. Oh ohhh and put a *****' huge touchpad on it. Yehh!
- snapple112, on 01/07/2008, -8/+1MIRROR (in case site goes down):
http://mirror-wire.com/digg/macrumors/thin-macbook ...- Ireland, on 01/07/2008, -0/+3MacRumors is not a Wordpress blog you know.
- WestN, on 01/07/2008, -0/+2dah.. big risk that thisone is going down *not*
- lukas88, on 01/07/2008, -2/+20I don't mean this in a mean spirited way, but it is really funny to me how the average PC nerd looks forward to things like next generation processors, advancement in GPU technology, etc, while the average mac nerd looks forward to having a really slim computer. Or the ability to put one computer in another computer. Neato!
- DavisCollins, on 01/07/2008, -1/+7People that like style and functionality get excited about style and functionality...
- Ireland, on 01/07/2008, -6/+3Yeah that's why the MacBook Pro was the fastest Vista lappy OTB in 2007, right.
- andycr512, on 01/07/2008, -0/+4No, it wasn't. It was the fastest tested by one particular company. Besides, what the heck did that have to do with his statement?
- tupperbacharach, on 01/07/2008, -7/+1Yes. Because Apple invented the really slim laptop, and only Mac users could desire such a unit. In fact, only Steve Jobs/Apple could conceive such a brilliant and non-obvious idea.
Here is a more recent Non-Mac unit:
http://www.tech2.com/india/news/laptops/intel-to-u ...
Why does Apple let these other companies get away with copying their concepts so far in advance? - tupperbacharach, on 01/07/2008, -7/+0I hate the Digg comment system.
Here is a review from 2004 showing two Non-Mac ultra-slim laptops:
http://www.usatoday.com/tech/columnist/edwardbaig/ ...
Ultra-slims are not just for Mactards! Non-Mac users have enjoyed ultra-slims for years.
- n0t0kayipr0mis3, on 01/07/2008, -3/+8macbooks are always sick, but it doesn't change the fact that i can't afford one. :(
- fugazi, on 01/07/2008, -3/+4I am mostly waiting on a new mac mini. All I want is a damn mac mini comeeeee on.
- Rickler, on 01/07/2008, -0/+11Plastic case? I think not. Anodized aluminum ftw.
- Ireland, on 01/07/2008, -0/+3The shape is nice though.
- naonao, on 01/07/2008, -1/+1Not as nice as the shape of a Macbook Pro though.
- Ireland, on 01/07/2008, -0/+3The shape is nice though.
- ketchupman57, on 01/07/2008, -8/+2what if your wrist hits the track pad i'm a lazy typer
- Rice, on 01/07/2008, -1/+4Ignore accidental input.
- FullBleed, on 01/07/2008, -0/+1Yeah, no kidding.
- ahpro, on 01/07/2008, -6/+1I think it'll be almost completely touchscreen. If not then a future computer by apple will be. Thats my prediction of the future, they'll have computers turn to completely touchscreen. Whether microsoft will or not, i don't know. Maybe there'll be a new company out there who will make an operating system. But anyway, i think Apple will invent the touchscreen computer first, probably using their multi-touch technology.
- kwr007, on 01/07/2008, -1/+4you mean like this?
http://h71036.www7.hp.com/hho/cache/447803-0-0-225 ...- SLockhart, on 01/07/2008, -0/+2BURRRRRRNN!!!
- Ireland, on 01/07/2008, -1/+1No, he meant a portable. And not one with Vista slapped onto it, but one designed from the ground up for fingers. The first thing I noticed this "desktop" is that when you touch the screen a cursor appears, that's annoying in itself. Oh and by the way, a desktop with a touch-screen is an ergonomic nightmare.
- kwr007, on 01/07/2008, -0/+1Umm he never said a portable and he didnt say one designed from the ground up next time just read the comment instead of jumping unto vista bashing
- mdeppi01, on 01/07/2008, -1/+2This thread is about portable computers.. he didn't need to explain that he wa.... nevermind. No one will ever read this. This is a huge waste of my life.
That's it. I'm deleting my digg account. seriously.- kwr007, on 01/07/2008, -0/+1Wow and in ever mac thread theres comments about PCs and every PC thread theres comments about Macs and so on, your point? This thread isnt about touch screen but he mentioned that so how is it relevant then? And I will see if you really delete your account or just kinda say that you will and then change your mind
- kwr007, on 01/07/2008, -1/+4you mean like this?
- TheCash, on 01/07/2008, -5/+5Awesome.... who cares? Why do people waste hours cranking out photoshop images of what a theoretical product *might* look like? Like I am going to trust the imagination of someone with that much time on their hands.
Post the story when/if Apple actually releases this product. Till then, hows bout drooling over actual porn for a change, like a normal person. Maybe get a real girlfriend instead of the franken-woman you also created with photoshop. - sukkapunk, on 01/07/2008, -16/+1MACS ARE GAY and people that like MACS are gayer
- Klarth, on 01/07/2008, -1/+5So what does that make people who like you?
- andycr512, on 01/07/2008, -0/+4Nonexistent?
- naonao, on 01/07/2008, -0/+7MAC is a MAC address, Mac is an Apple Macintosh computer. Please do not capitalize where it is not needed.
- eatsleeptrumpet, on 01/07/2008, -0/+1Looking at Sukkapunk's history, MAC addresses aren't the only thing he finds gay. In his 7 comments on Digg (hopefully it will remain at that number) he seems to focus on calling things gay, calling people pillow biters, and defending the Zune against the iPod. This extreme homophobia/need to create arguments for the Zune is a sign that he may in fact be gay himself.
That being said, there is nothing wrong with being gay. Sukkapunk will discover this when he's out meeting fellow closet case MAC address haters at a bar called "Woody's" tonight. He will then find himself drawn more and more towards Apple products in an attempt to compensate for his obvious deviant tendencies. After all, the wife and kids would ***** ice bricks if they knew what went on behind closed doors.
Now excuse me, I have to go jerk off to MacBook concept images while thinking about surfing the net on a 3G iPh-oooooooooooooonnnnnnneeeeeeeeeee!!!!
- Klarth, on 01/07/2008, -1/+5So what does that make people who like you?
- instantrobotwar, on 01/07/2008, -3/+2Anyone miss tangibility? I'm afraid I'd snap it in half somehow.
- CMiYC, on 01/07/2008, -2/+7Why do these fan-based creations make it to the front page? If they are not of the actual product or from a credible source who knows it looks like, why bother drooling over it? It is worse when people critique it with the phrase "I can't believe they did that!" (The poster making it obvious they do not understand what "concept" means.)
- kaidovak, on 01/07/2008, -1/+3i can't wait to see how many students come in with one broken in half wanting us to fix it. Already happens enough with standard thickness notebooks.
- rowlodge, on 01/07/2008, -0/+1so skinny, it looks like a toy.
- directive0, on 01/07/2008, -1/+2The OLPC touchpad is interesting.
- Kazbaeden, on 01/07/2008, -2/+6So.... where exactly does the ethernet port go on a laptop that's 1/2 an inch thin?
- JorgeGT, on 01/07/2008, -5/+1non standard, highly princed custom Apple port - RJ45 port adapter?
/I for one love English language, that is Spanish would be full of particles.- inspecality, on 01/07/2008, -0/+2I'm sure you do, prince.
- JorgeGT, on 01/10/2008, -0/+1I'm Spanish. just for the record ¬¬.
And I use ethernet cable in my laptop.
- zongamin, on 01/07/2008, -0/+2Its wireless.
- demonstro, on 01/07/2008, -0/+1http://www.macrumors.com/2007/08/16/ultraportable- ...
Patent app - derjames, on 01/09/2008, -0/+1Who is using an ethernet cable in these days anyway?...
- JorgeGT, on 01/07/2008, -5/+1non standard, highly princed custom Apple port - RJ45 port adapter?
- Po0py, on 01/07/2008, -1/+4These mockups are usually way way off the mark.
- widgetmaker, on 01/07/2008, -1/+5another concept based on no actual evidence hits the front page, could we just look at the actual product when it comes out not a bunch of concept images with no basis.
- briLo, on 01/07/2008, -1/+5can you install vista on it??
- leamanc, on 01/07/2008, -2/+0No! Apple has decided to dump Intel for the long-awaited PowerBook G5!
- zongamin, on 01/07/2008, -1/+1You idiot.
- PicklePower, on 01/08/2008, -0/+1Yes. http://www.apple.com/macosx/features/bootcamp.html
- leamanc, on 01/07/2008, -2/+0No! Apple has decided to dump Intel for the long-awaited PowerBook G5!
- sieeegel, on 01/07/2008, -2/+2comeon Apple, dont tease me, bro!
- WhoDoneIt, on 01/07/2008, -4/+2Wow, it looks like another ***** laptop. It's got a screen, keyboard and it *might* be silver, er sorry, brushed metal look-a-like.
Could you imagine the ***** hilarity and mockery that would be dished out if a *PC Fanboy* spent their time on mocking up the potential 2009 Dell Inspiron.- zongamin, on 01/07/2008, -1/+1Yes. Because people buy Inspirons because they are cheap, not because they are innovative.
- richman241, on 01/07/2008, -2/+1The current macbook is thin and light enough. No one needs a laptop less than 1 lb.
- countingthedays, on 01/07/2008, -0/+1I'd like one.
- Musicmonkey34, on 01/07/2008, -3/+1i hope its closer to the second one. The macbook pros have the nicest keyboards around, and thats why im still typing on my old powerbook g4 12". Its just not worth it for me to upgrade my subcompact if im downgrading my keyboard. does anyone else feel like they are the macbook keyboard are semi- fisher price?
Also, the other deciding factor (if our collective prayers are answered and there is multitouch) is if it can be used as a wacom tablet. That is a MUST for us graphic designers! - solarisom, on 01/07/2008, -1/+1How is a full-length touchpad compatible with having wrists?
- Lowrads, on 01/07/2008, -4/+1Oh WOW! Another product from Apple!
http://www.imagebam.com/image/779ea01779676- tupperbacharach, on 01/07/2008, -0/+0Thanks for the link! Says it all!
- antitab, on 01/07/2008, -0/+1Has no one noticed the ad at the bottom?
- BigMur, on 01/07/2008, -0/+0The problem I have with the large horizontal touchpad concept is I do not see sufficient space to comfortably place the palms of my hands while typing.
- UtCollector, on 01/07/2008, -1/+0It does look nice and thin. But i would need a good reason to buy it. Mac is normally high priced i think.
- jtoee777, on 01/08/2008, -0/+0dig it!
- leesbian, on 01/11/2008, -0/+0how about this baby? :)
