- fanboydcs, on 11/27/2007, -4/+49one dumb employee at an AT&T store shouldn't be the entire voice of AT&T, and its not, their official stance is if you open the box you need to go though apple to get it repaired or replaced.
- Colostorm19, on 11/27/2007, -3/+32You can return your iPhone to any apple store if it is defective, don't return it to AT&T if you don't want to have this problem. My iPhone broke 2 months after I bought it, so I took it back to an Apple sore and they tried to fix it, but they couldn't; they gave me a new iPhone, no questions asked. It's that simple guys, jeeze!
- inactive, on 11/27/2007, -5/+25I hate to have to defend AT&T here, but this is Apple's fault. I am an Apple reseller and once I purchase an Apple product and resell it, I cannot return it to Apple. The customer must exercise the warranty if it is defective out of the box. I have fought with Apple on this before... most people that drop several hundred dollars on a product don't want to keep a defective product that must be repaired out of the box.
- NinjaPig, on 11/27/2007, -1/+13Apple controls the iPhone sales completely. Trust me on that, there's a special section, special bag, and even a special clause so that you can upgrade to the iphone whenever you want rather than waiting 2 years.
You cannot do this with any other phone at At&t.
At&t is pretty much at the mercy of Apple when it comes to iphone transactions. - wayback09, on 11/27/2007, -11/+21IMPEACH!!!!! (oh wait, wrong spot)
- Britta34, on 11/27/2007, -1/+10Or just call or go to the Apple store...for free exchange, no questions asked!
- edeliz, on 11/27/2007, -0/+9I work for att and i can say that about 90% of phones that people are trying to return to us as defective are bricked phones that where bricked at a failed attempt of unlocking the iphone. So as I obviously can't simply accuse someone of attempting to unlock the phone and breaking it themselves, i need to enforce the 10% restocking fee. That being said since it's an issue with dead pixels, the 10% restocking fee can be waived upon managers approval.
Also, people please don't bash the company as a whole when A couple of unintelligible employees give you a hard time, the majority of us are smart individuals who do want to help. - NinjaPig, on 11/27/2007, -4/+13i don't know why he's getting dugg down, but he's right on this. I have nothing against apple but they really screw over their resellers.
- Omeganon, on 11/27/2007, -2/+10I've had my iphone replaced twice at an Apple store with no fees. I'd ask why they'd be restocking a defective product in the first place.
- natdowner, on 11/27/2007, -14/+21I'm slowly becoming more and more happy I resisted the urge to buy an iPhone. More hassle than it's worth it seems.
- capiCrimm, on 11/27/2007, -1/+8this is the new sound, just like the old sound.
- Spliced88, on 11/27/2007, -0/+6didn't you read the above comments, AT&T is at the mercy of Apple, all these ***** policies about the iPhone are in place because of Apple not AT&T.
- iching, on 11/28/2007, -1/+7I worked on the suit to stop them from wire-tapping you. I don't use them but I sure the hell fight for your rights Mr. generalikickass.
- AriaStar, on 11/27/2007, -2/+7"She asks how close I am to an Apple Store and I tell her about 90 minutes which is a bit of drive."
It's not like the store is just down the street. - lex0nyc, on 11/27/2007, -0/+5They send out refurbished iPhones in those cases.
- shabumike, on 11/27/2007, -4/+8It's to help cover the cost of letting the NSA listen to your communications. It's well known that iphone users are often agitator revolutionists.
- ClarkNoHeart, on 11/27/2007, -3/+7...No, they can't.
- demonsnake69, on 11/28/2007, -0/+3If such a thing exists could you link me to it.
- iching, on 11/27/2007, -10/+13The 'new' AT&T same as the 'old' AT&T over charge me and the consumer for years. I refuse to use them ever again.
- superkendall, on 11/27/2007, -2/+5Or she could call Applecare and they could drop-ship a replacement (they do that with other problem hardware).
There's a reason Apple is handling support, not AT&T. - JonRick, on 11/28/2007, -1/+4NinjaPig is correct, I've done it many times during my contact.
- j0hn, on 11/27/2007, -1/+4Yeah let's single out AT&T. Every company does this, it's common knowledge. AT&T is not the only greedy company out there, contrary to popular (digg) belief.
- negativefx, on 11/27/2007, -2/+5I work at AT&T. You can change your plan at anytime (iPhones excluded, because you can't drop data) without changing your contract. This is not the case at Verizon, where changes can in fact reset your contract. ClarkNoHeart: you're an idiot. NinjaPig is correct.
- BigBucksT, on 11/27/2007, -0/+2I'm on my third Iphone because my first two were found to be defective. This guy needs to take his phone to an Apple store. I got a brand new phone in both cases.
- inactive, on 11/28/2007, -0/+2That's right, being an Apple user really doesn't exclude you from the rules governing mortals.
- rmxz, on 11/27/2007, -4/+6AT&T is the one and only reason I did resist the urge to buy an iPhone.
The suckyness of AT&T is even greater than the niceness of that Apple product. - Tenoq, on 11/28/2007, -0/+2Except, maybe... the IT industry? Many stores around here offer about a month of 'store warranty' then it's manufacturer warranty. Which means you ship back to the manufacturer or distributor yourself to get your warranty claim sorted.
- inactive, on 11/28/2007, -0/+2Refurbs.
- inactive, on 11/28/2007, -0/+2Done it, not that hard really. As long as you have the packaging, the memory you are returning matches the packaging, and you are nice to the cashier.
- negativefx, on 11/28/2007, -1/+3Really? Try returning memory for a PC.
- Pardis, on 11/28/2007, -0/+2you must have missed the NEARLY part of that didn't you?
- inactive, on 11/28/2007, -0/+2In some states, retail stores are bound by law to at least a 30 day return policy. Sometimes hardware is only 14 days.
- shinythings, on 11/28/2007, -1/+3If you don't buy one in the first place, you don't have to pay a restocking fee. Keep that in mind ;-)
- youareretarded, on 11/28/2007, -0/+1I didn't realize you knew all the terms and conditions to the apple deal. I guess if you say they don't lose any money on an exchange then it must be true.
/sarcasm - KamikazeeDriver, on 11/28/2007, -0/+1"english *****, do you speak it?"
-Samuel Jackson - youareretarded, on 11/28/2007, -0/+1You are an idiot and blinded by your fanboyism!
- AriaStar, on 11/27/2007, -5/+6What *****.
- lex0nyc, on 11/27/2007, -2/+3"I work in retail" isn't the best way to start a convincing argument...
- KingGorilla, on 11/28/2007, -0/+1NO, you're the *****!
- Tenoq, on 11/27/2007, -1/+2Maybe because every reseller is like that - at least in IT. There is no 'replacement' warranty when we buy from distributors - we send the item back, wait 6 weeks (or more) and they send us a repaired unit. That's typical of pretty much every computer-related stock we sell. There are a few exceptions, but that's generally the rule.
- KamikazeeDriver, on 11/28/2007, -0/+1wow, so original!
- Ocelot13, on 11/28/2007, -0/+1keep complaining. im sure messiah jobs will come and all shall be well.
(btw, this is coming from someone dual booting leopard & vista, so keep that in mind) - novahh, on 11/28/2007, -1/+210%? I bought my 3G 10 gig ipod five days before they upgraded to 15 gigs as the min and they wouldn't let me return it for short of $50. Either their fee has been reduced, or I got screwed. ): (I didn't return it. That was too damn much for an extra five gigs.)
- Tweekster, on 11/28/2007, -0/+1Buy with credit card, return, charge back the store
Simple, easy, effective. The words "i am calling the credit card company and denying authorization for this charge" are amazingly effective.
"state attorney generals office, consumer fraud division" is also powerful - mousky, on 11/28/2007, -4/+5Why are iPhones defective in the first place? I thought Apple was perfect?
- TigerMarc, on 12/01/2007, -0/+1Go to the Apple store - not AT&T.
- knobtwiddler, on 11/28/2007, -2/+3I for one welcome our AT&T overlords.
- xiambax, on 11/29/2007, -0/+1This is foolish. Call Apple iPhone Support and Request to talk to a product specialist.
They will help you.
Trust ME!
Explain your situation and they will do the best they can to make sure that at the end of the phone call you are happy.
Why i know this?
Guess. - shootsfired, on 11/28/2007, -0/+1It's funny because it says Kill Blacks.
- spiralspirit, on 11/28/2007, -2/+2As an employee of at&t it isn't your duty to punish the people attempting to return the phones. Most places have laws protecting consumers from defective products, and an EXCHANGE as opposed to a return should not incur an sort of restocking fee.
And of course, I wouldn't wish to bash an entire company, just employees who feel it their need to punish customers for any reason. -
