I know you're just trolling, but you're so anti-Mac (its not all in capitals) you're worse than the fanboys. Have you ever actually used a Mac? I've never laid my hands on one due to the sheer cost involved, so I'm not at liberty to make comments about a system that I've not used. I doubt you have used one either, since I mostly hear good things about Macs, or well constructed critisicm from the rare few people who didn't like them but actually used them.
The sheer amount of ***** that spews from your mouth could keep a farmer in business fertilizing his crops with it:
"It is obvious that there are like 90% MAC readers to DIGG while the rest of 99% of the population that use PCs just goes to work and gets stuff done instead of commenting on news stories like this that are hardly news."
So what you're basically trying to say is that you're also using a Mac, since you're commenting on this story?
Grow up and ***** off. - FitFinlay, on 10/12/2007, -13/+142This is great, since we were expecting this to be announced on the 12th, hopefully they will introduce something that hasn't been in the rumor mills for the past week.
- Ireland, on 10/12/2007, -43/+161A small poo just appeared in my pants.
- ModernTenshi, on 10/12/2007, -17/+117Dammit! I've been planing on getting the 20" model for so long, and now Apple comes out with a newer, more expensive model! Damn you Apple for making me want to spend more money!
- Ubermensch423, on 10/12/2007, -17/+81@Frankie4Fingers
The widescreen monitor is included in the price of the iMac, not only the computer. - 5thfreedom, on 10/12/2007, -5/+63An iMac with those specs would put you back $3,324. If I had that much to spend on a computer I'd be all over a Mac Pro with a 24" Dell monitor instead.
- Xiol, on 10/12/2007, -12/+61@Frankie4Fingers
Dude, it's "Mac", not MAC.
Until you actually get the capitilization right you're just coming across as retarded. - Slovenian6474, on 10/12/2007, -5/+54That's a $3,324.00 computer! But with free shipping :)
- krasi, on 10/12/2007, -6/+51they also updated the mac minis to both duo core processor and also bump the speed also. check it out.
- danielwsmithee, on 10/12/2007, -8/+53Upgradeable to 7600 as well.
- chriskzoo, on 10/12/2007, -3/+48Eliminate that bottom 4" so it just looks like a monitor and it would look better.

"Name me a single Fortune 500 company that has a company standard to use the MAC."
Apple Fortune 500 #159 for 2006.
lol You only said name 1 - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+39Now where are those Core 2 Duo MacBooks...
- frem001, on 10/12/2007, -10/+44Frankie most people don't buy Macs to play games. They are tools to get work done, the only difference is that apple makes computers and software that anyone can use.
- MikeCerm, on 10/12/2007, -6/+37I don't want an integrated monitor. I already have a pair of nice monitors. I wish Apple would just go ahead and release an affordable mid-tower system. Something expandable, that's not a $3000 MacPro. Basically, the iMac guts, in a tower, starting at $699. If they did that they'd have a contender, but they never will, because that would put them in direct competition with the rank-and-file PC crowd.
- pxa270, on 10/12/2007, -6/+36$999 iMac! Yay!
Wait a sec? Non-replacable GMA950? WTF?
"Most say they’re good for 2D games only. That’s because an “integrated Intel graphics” chip steals power from the CPU and siphons off memory from system-level RAM. You’d have to buy an extra card to get the graphics performance of Mac mini, and some cheaper PCs don’t even have an open slot to let you add one."
Exact quote from the Apple page earlier this year.
And Combodrive? WTF? This is 2006, DVD burners cost less than $10 more than than combo drives. Not to mention it makes the included iDVD fairly worthless. - yalskey, on 10/12/2007, -22/+52It was NOT sarcastic!!!
The iMacs DO handle and extra gig (3 total)
3k is definately cheap for all the hardware, softare, and reliable computing you get.
Christ, when are PC people gonna wake up out of their Microsoft haze and realize, just like you would NOT want a cheap-ass $100 brain surgeon, you also don't want a cheap ass computer that constantly gives you headaches, needs tons of extra software purchased seperately, and make you work for it rather then your computer working for you!
I know you guys are going to mod me down for this, but damn... why in the hell would you ever want a clunky-ass old fashioned PC with all it's problems and *****?
Come on Mac peeps... back me up on this!!!!!!!! - paulryan21, on 10/12/2007, -9/+39@Frankie4Fingers
Have you not heard of Boot Camp - yes, it is a PC as well.
You can play all the games you like. - BobMysterioso, on 10/12/2007, -8/+36The truth is, fanboism aside - Apple just comes out with neat stuff while everyone else just packages PC components in a fancy box. Sure, Apple is doing that too - but they also have a good software package - OSX et al.
No one else is coming up with fancy packages of new stuff - plus you have to admit - the iMac is pretty cool. If you leave behind for a minute super geekdom, and think like someone who just wants to use a computer - its pretty nifty.
Of course, it doesn't compare to your super over clocked rig with box fan blowing fulltime onto the open case frame and SLI video cards and 1TB storage array. But, I said leave the Super Geekdom. Sometimes you'll find simplicty and elegance all in once box. Some might even call that an iMac. - MacParrot, on 10/12/2007, -6/+34Nope, this is the real deal. A few complaints though. In order to configure it with just a few upgrades (Faster processor, Applecare), you're almost into Mac Pro territory. LCD displays are getting cheaper all the time, so why buy a machine that is self limiting (only 1 SATA drive, 2 ram slots) when for just a little more you can get the beast that is known as the Mac Pro?
Don't get me wrong, I like this machine. I just wish Apple would position their consumers machines with consumer prices. - psylence, on 10/12/2007, -11/+38I like Macs as much as the next guy, but what I love more is Mac people thinking a $3000 iMac is wacky cheap.
- Kanundra, on 10/12/2007, -4/+30@drunknjew
Actually they handle 3GB of ram - tobsterius, on 10/12/2007, -4/+28Very impressive specs and great price points too. It's nice to see that Apple added the option to upgrade the video cards in the 17 and 24 inch models. But I can't help but wonder, when this iMac design starts to feel tired, what's next? I can't imagine the iMac design get any nicer than what it is now.
- Vermifax, on 10/12/2007, -4/+28@Frankie4Fingers
"So, please don't tell me a MAC is for people to get work done. It just is for children, grandparents and people who want to look cool while spending more money to do so." -Frankie4Fingers, with all the wisdom and insight he could muster.

I don't see many grandmothers at this site. At first glance, it sort of looks like there are professional adults (unlike yourself) getting real work done but, hey...
It's must be difficult when your worldview is distorted by LAN gaming and the limited scope of your Mom's basement window. - iDrinkKoolAid, on 10/12/2007, -3/+26@Frankie4Fingers
"I realized that all the major companies and all the major development that gets done happens on a PC."
Biotech and Physics computations are done a Mac. Not all Mac users are metrosexual creating My First iMovie.
So go funk yourself Frankie. You obviously don't appreciate the iMac's aesthetics. Take a look at the iMac's closest competitor, the Sony all-in-one PC, which is uglier and costs more. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+28The 24" model has Firewire 800!
FW800 tears through data like crazy. Yes, it is a big, beautiful beast. Bravo Apple! - fungible, on 10/12/2007, -22/+44Why do Mac haters always complain about prices? "I can build it for $300 less!" You sound like such a cheapskate. What, do you still live with your mom?
- NtroP, on 10/12/2007, -1/+22Uhmmm.. Apple doesn't sell a one-button mouse any more. You get a 4-button mouse with a 360° scroll ball. You can configure it to be a one-button mouse or not, depending on your taste and experience.
- cal3b, on 10/12/2007, -3/+23Was that meant to be sarcastic? If so I salute you.
If not I fear for you sanity. - johnnybluejeans, on 10/12/2007, -1/+21@Frankie4Fingers
I can't believe I am responding to any of your trolling (you are obviously an ignorant troll with consistent bad grammar, poor spelling, and simple minded inflammatory tactics such as using "MAC"). I don't believe for a second that you have "been in the industry for years". You talk and act like a child.
Consumer Reports ranks Apple as number one in reliability for both the desktop computer category and the laptop computer category. They also rank Apple number one for support in both of these categories.
Furthermore..
MAC = Media Access Control. More commonly the term used is "MAC Address", a unique identifier given to networking equipment. - dmoney06, on 10/12/2007, -4/+23What I want to know is why the 17" iMac has a lower resolution than my 15" PowerBook..

The idea of an all-in-one package (cpu and screen in one unit) is what brought Apple back into the game with the original iMacs about 6 or 7 years back.
And if you remember several PC manufacturers such as dell, gateway and emachines saw it as a good idea too since they immediately followed suite with the ire own all-in-ones.
But as far as personal experience, I bought my 20" G5 imac for the a year and a half ago just because of the fact that my studio is in the basement but when I need to get stuff done and watch my 3 year old daughter at the same time, I can unplug the mac and have it up and running again in less than two minutes (including time going up and down the stairs).
Other people like the idea because they simply do not have the room for a monitor and CPU or they just don't like cables hanging out all over the place.
But the moral of the story is that for the last 6 or 7 years, the all-in-one package deal has been a great success and as long as apple makes em, people will buy em. - epitaphic, on 10/12/2007, -2/+21667 bus, Merom
- andrewguy, on 10/12/2007, -5/+23The iMac line up is now completely 64bit now all we need is Leopard :D
- catoutfit, on 10/12/2007, -1/+17"MacMini got a much needed spec bump too. Unfortunately, it's still a screen-less laptop for same price as a (PC) laptop, and it's not expandable. All the drawbacks of a laptop, and all the drawbacks of a desktop, and none of the benefits of either."
It runs OS X: the only benefit I need :). - yalskey, on 10/12/2007, -12/+28Frankie4Fingers...
Ok, prove it... show me where you can buy what you just said... with similar specs for under 3k.
Of coarse you can always buy 3 ***** Fords for the price of a Lexus, and they will both go down the highway, but which one is gonna be nicer to own, give you a better experience, and not break down as much? This isn't the best analogy, but you can get my drift.
Whatever... fine... you PC drones keep fighting your viruses and patching your ***** OS up, while I sit back and enjoy my Mac. Whatever! - isaaccs, on 10/12/2007, -2/+18It's also the lead announcement on Apple's homepage, so I don't think it's a mistake. But it certainly raises the bar for product announcements from California/Paris in a week and a half...
- pseudojd, on 10/12/2007, -3/+18saying a mac is more expensive is not true. configure a dell with the same specs. go ahead. realize you are stupid.
- weareglass, on 10/12/2007, -2/+17I agree. The profit margins on this must be giant. Apple seem to have an affection for the $999 price point and keeping iMacs there. I guess the iMac just appeals to folks who don't mind paying a little extra to reduce clutter and help convenience.
- rickcarson, on 10/12/2007, -5/+20@llyag
So will you also now attack any mention of Microsoft products? Or Dell, or Shuttle, or Linux?
You don't seem to have a problem with the free advertising that other companies get...? - dvddesign, on 10/12/2007, -3/+17Everyone had said these were going to be Merom's in the rumor mills. given their slim size, and how hot my imac runs, I'd bet that these are Meroms.
- fraggle35, on 10/12/2007, -2/+15The Mac mini's have had a little bump up to.
- althe3rduww, on 10/12/2007, -9/+21@Frankie4fingers
You know I have been trying to take all of your comments seriously but even as a pc user I just have to scoff at a lot of those comments.
"Macs have just as much problems locking up as pcs..." ... Are you stoned? I have been a pc user since the 286 and a mac user since freshman year of college and now still running both I can tell you there is a reason the mac costs more... IT JUST WORKS. I know you wont be able to comprehend that but trust me they have far less issues than pcs do.... far less. - broken1812, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13I have an idea, let's fight over which computer is better..a pc or a mac.
Oh wait. That happens every post. - MikeCerm, on 10/12/2007, -5/+16Yeah, the bottom 4-inches are totally hideous and make the thing look huge, like staring at a big white wall. If they just increased the thickness a bit, everything could be hidden behind the screen. You wouldn't notice the extra thickness when viewed head-on, and it would look just like a monitor (like an LCD version of the original iMac).
Personally, I liked the older iLamp-style better that the current iMacs. Maybe they'll get rid of the big white wall on the next generation. - 5thfreedom, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13Yeah, unfortunately, you can no longer upgrade the lower end model with a Superdrive. When the hell is Apple going to abandon the combo drive?
- yalskey, on 10/12/2007, -7/+18Pixar
- weiran, on 10/12/2007, -12/+23goat77 + everyone: please stop the price comparisons. We know Macs are more expensive, you pay for the badge and the design. But also consider the monitor "bundled" BEFORE you judge its price.
- esoteric0, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12"Macs are pretty, for sure. They're also decent computers on the whole - although what's up with like 4 meta keys and a one-button mouse? Seems like we could do with one less of one and one more of another!"
that's retarded. first of all, apple keyboards have the same number of modifier keys as windows keyboards. they actually make more sense though, because rather than having to press Control+C to copy (for example) and Alt+F4 to close a window, you mostly use the Command key. Command+C to copy, Command+W to close a window, Command+Q to quit. it makes a lot more sense.
Second, apple hasn't included a one button mouse with their products in over a year. yeah, it took a while for the bluetooth version to catch up, but now you couldn't find a one button mouse if you wanted to. -
