- jboitnott, on 12/01/2008, -1/+12This could be the biggest Holiday season ever for the iTunes store. Apple must be swimming in cash.
- digitaldivinci, on 12/01/2008, -3/+9That's some really cool information. I didn't realize that 23% of all apps were games.
- oldhick, on 12/01/2008, -0/+5Who pays for apps? I think I bought the guitar tuner, but other than that... All free for me.
- 13373h4X0r, on 12/01/2008, -1/+4I submitted my first app less than an hour ago! I will be thrilled to see it in the app store! But I guess I have to wait two weeks before it is approved. :-(
- GrigoriSom, on 12/01/2008, -1/+4I'm hoping a "gift this app" option appears soon; they'd make great, spur of the moment gifts.
- inactive, on 12/01/2008, -0/+3Whats the ratio of paid/free app downloads? (as opposed to paid/free apps in the store which is about 3:1)
That's one stat Apple isn't telling apparently. - inactive, on 12/01/2008, -2/+5There are over 9000 ***** worthless apps.
Saying you have 10,000 apps is like saying you own a fleet of Kia's. - cannibaljp, on 12/01/2008, -2/+544% are flashlights.
30% are tip calculators.
3% are productivity apps. - Crazysticks, on 12/01/2008, -0/+2The best apps are the ones that interact with the home computer, like, air mouse, air sharing, and vnc.
- enicholas, on 12/01/2008, -0/+2Only took my app about two days to be approved.
- nomoreink, on 12/01/2008, -1/+3Developers sure are. I have two college buddies who quit their jobs - the app store is putting them through college now.
As for Apple... I think a good portion of that 30% they make goes to overhead. Not sure though. It would be an interesting thing to find out. Most serious iPhone developers think that the system wasn't built with the apps idea in mind, but that it was added later to circumvent jailbreaking. - kangy3213, on 12/01/2008, -2/+4app store has brought many joys to my ipod.
- peaceninja, on 12/01/2008, -2/+3i love my google calendar sync, video recorder, dtunes and icomic...definitely my favorites.
oh wait, those are jailbroken apps. - kiiwii, on 12/01/2008, -0/+1Just look at the "Top ____" or "Hot ____" lists they have, it seems like the majority of apps being sold are games...
- boxxa, on 12/01/2008, -1/+2Slow economy my a$$
- nickpick, on 12/01/2008, -1/+2*cough* Copyright infringing apps, that is.
- oldhick, on 12/01/2008, -0/+1Actually that is exactly what I meant... I hate the word stealing and I'm not sure why I used it in this case. Thanks for the correction.
- inactive, on 12/01/2008, -1/+1The store is thriving. It didnt say how many of those downloads are paid downloads. Apple won't say because it might look bad. Some estimate that 95% of the downloads are free downloads.
"The App Store is Thriving" is not the same as saying "They are making lots of money". - nomoreink, on 12/01/2008, -2/+2The app store needs better organization that makes it easier to find the 1 worthwhile app out of the 100.
- purdo, on 12/01/2008, -1/+1In other news, Google is one of the most popular search engines... phhht!
- oldhick, on 12/01/2008, -1/+1Wrong, you can sync your gmail calendar to the iPhone calendar using the built-in iPhone OS.
Check out: http://www.nuevasync.com/ - peaceninja, on 12/01/2008, -1/+1they shouldnt cripple the iphone to stave off piracy. but apple i know is caught in the middle so i appreciate their innovations regardless.
and no, there is no free app to sync google calendar to ical...i think there's a way to use a mac to sync your desktop ical to google calendar, and then sync desktop ical to iphone ical, but i dont own a mac.
same thing with comiczeal, it costs money. i dont mind paying for an app if it adds value, but i dont really want to pay for a jpg viewer. - nem0, on 12/01/2008, -0/+0Yeah, that's because of me. I bought an iPod Touch last week.
- dasbacon, on 12/01/2008, -2/+1what nine thousand?.. ;/
- Munky, on 12/01/2008, -3/+1Thriving for Apple - not necessarily for the developers.
The main issue for folks that want to sustain a full family is that a majority of the apps are only $0.99 (FTA). You have to move alot of units at $0.70 takehome (pre-tax) in order to make enough to pay a mortgage.
Why would someone cut the price of their app so drastically? It's only $99/yr to put your app(s) on the store. So, if I'm a developer, why not carpet bomb the App Store with half-baked apps at a buck instead of writing good apps for $5+? If they raised the yearly dev fee to something like $1k, then it would make people take their apps more seriously and hopefully raise the level of quality of the apps. - oldhick, on 12/01/2008, -4/+2you can sync you google calendar without any app, and they have ComicZeal in the app store...
No video recorder or music stealing apps... - nickpick, on 12/01/2008, -8/+2Still no Crysis.:(
