- dragazis, on 10/12/2007, -5/+20For every Mac app list submitted to digg, a kitten dies. ;-)
- haydesigner, on 10/12/2007, -2/+16old, tired, clichéd and no longer valid argument.
- dizzybastard, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7And it is not "a cheap ad-less tripod site"...
more like a "free and add-supported tripod site" - ardenr, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8You mean I'll have to start feasting on the blood of puppies? They taste like crotch..

Fire is dead! Some of the developers are working on Adium now. - altempo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Cmd-Shft-4 doesn't allow you to capture entire web pages that cannot fit in a window. Paparazzi does.
- hongy_r, on 10/12/2007, -4/+8digg is turning to ***** when people have to justify why they are submitting a story in the description.
- mjar81, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Not all free, but a list of things i use in my daily/weekly workflow: http://www.ear-fung.us/apps/
- UnConeD, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I'd recommend Disk Inventory X over GrandPerspective (though the author of the latter links to the former). It does the same, but looks much better. It also has a color scheme that doesn't hurt the eyes.
- SamsLembas, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2The only reason to "prefer" Fire is to have not tried Adium. Adium has everything Fire has, plus a lot more cool stuff.
- steal_apps01, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Djay, is amazing i've cued up songs and i can mix and have fun too. I need an iMic too.
- Skeuomorph, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I wouldn't have listed Growl either, since several of these others either give it to you or tell you to get it. I think I got it with Adium, for example.
- Academicballa, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Apple Shift 4!! I just found this out. That's amazing. I learn something new everyday!
- intarwabulous, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Come on, this was just covered!

Think of the kittens!!!! - gailwin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2whoever put this list together chose "insanely great" apps to put on it
like djay, adium, cyberduck, quicksilver, and vlc - jerrygofixit, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4I disagree
- fishnchips, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1diskinventoryx is better than grandperspective (IMO)
- totorototoro, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2nice list; i'd add Camino and NicePlayer (which I prefer to VLC or Mplayer)
- alej744, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Xtorrent costs $MONEY$
!!! - nonsequitor, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Having just unwrapped my shiny new C2D MacBook Pro and dealing with the pain of installing multiple messenger apps; I clicked the link and saw everything else I'll want to install off the bat, I found this list helpful. If you don't like it mark it dupe or lame and ignore it, don't comment in the thread just to hate on it because you've been using Macs longer than some of us. Is it just me or do Mac threads have dangerously high levels of SMUGG.
- JuyLe, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6Growl is not that useful, or maybe with Adium, and for iTunes... Anyway, nice list, even if it's like the 10th time we see such list on frontpage...
- sporktek, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4So please, submit more Mac app lists. :D
- SamsLembas, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I agree with the Camino part. Safari is slow, ugly, featureless, and incapable of loading web pages when compared to Safari (or any other Mac browser).
- ifthe21stcentu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1MEOW!
- Skeuomorph, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@mjar81 : nice list
- tttsquared, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1There were a few apps on the list I hadn't heard of yet.. will be checking them out soon (djay, grand perspective). If you include (free) apps that are indispensible I'd include PTHPasteboard on the list too. If you ever find yourself going back and forth copying/pasting between two documents you'll know why it is useful (among other nice features).
- macsroxr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This app has been around for as long as Mac OS X and I've used it all that time. Highly recommended. http://pth.com/products/pthpasteboard to save some googling.
- TomP, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4No it don't it only takes a screenshot
- pero69, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2quality, speed, price
pick 2. - Westcoast, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Great list. I prefer Xtorrent over Transmission
- NAPO, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1i think ipoddisk is better than senuti. easier to use. but thats just imho.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I need an FTP client that can backup my documents, settings, etc to FTP site and can be scheduled. I dont mind paying for this. Can someone recommend an app like that?
- TomP, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Paparazzi! just what I was looking for :)
- alej744, on 10/12/2007, -5/+5I was thinking of putting Growl, but decided not to... And Camino... well I thought if someone really needed that, they would already have it; and I didn't want to put any browsers since Safari works great for me.
Thanks. - imsoclever, on 10/12/2007, -5/+3Good list... Although I'd recommend Butler instead of Quicksilver - It takes a little more time to customize to suit your needs, but it runs much faster (at least on my old 867 mhz G4).
- sporktek, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2Oh come on! It's a good thing when kittens die!
- ifthe21stcentu, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2Apple+Shift+4 then Space does what Paparazzi does. This is built into the operating system.
- BingeBoy, on 10/12/2007, -8/+5These are good. I think its missing some but its a great start. Mplayer IMO is better than VLC.
- DeathAxe, on 10/12/2007, -7/+4Some like Growl or Camino are missing but all the apps you've listed are good.
- roustk, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1Skype, SnapNDrag, Graphviz.
- vertinox, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1I've been using VLC and Cyberduck for a long time. Personally, I prefer Fire for my IM (it combines AIM, MSN, and Yahoo into one client and has tabbed chatting)
http://fire.sourceforge.net/ - pengu, on 10/12/2007, -22/+4"I was thinking of putting Growl, but decided not to.."
great explanation. "i was going to include an application that meets the criteria (free, and great) AND is the only thing of its type, but i decided instead that i would just not include it, for no apparent reason".
idiot. - vvvv, on 10/12/2007, -19/+2Yeah well if you didn't insist on forking out thousands of dollars on an overpriced Mac, you'd be able to afford better quality hosting for your freeware site.
