- WiseWeasel, on 09/26/2008, -3/+57This is pretty awesome, and quite easy to use. Just create a new WiFi network on your WiFi-equipped Mac or PC, then join that network from the iPhone, and launch this app. That's all there is to it, and there's no need to install any software on the computer to use it. Bravo, PdaNet! Finally a FREE, EASY-TO-USE NAT/Proxy app for jailbroken iPhones! I was pretty stoked when I discovered this app yesterday in Cydia. Speaking of orange logo, however, UGLIEST iPHONE ICON EVAR! Get that IE logo the ***** away from my precious!
- oboy, on 09/26/2008, -1/+40This is exactly what I've been waiting for.
- Soniti, on 09/26/2008, -6/+38Does this program also cause the battery to drain faster than it charges? Netshare was horrible about that, Iphonemodem isn't so bad.. How does this stack up?
- kajoob, on 09/26/2008, -8/+29If it takes you 15 minutes to configure NetShare or 7 minutes to configure iPhone Modem as this guide suggests, you are developmentally disabled and have no business tinkering with electronic gadgetry.
- Laminarcissus, on 09/26/2008, -6/+26What the *****? Why am I getting dugg down? These are valid lyrics. They apply directly to the sense of frustration you experience when you're right but there's no way to get that point across.
Whoever dugg me down, ***** you. - jayjay80, on 09/26/2008, -0/+19Superb. I thought I'd wait for a good reason to jailbreak after my 2.1 update, and here it is. Now I just hope this works....
- solidwhetstone, on 09/26/2008, -1/+18I really have no need of this, but I watch the Cydia updates obsessively and I figured this could be useful to quite a good many people.
Also dugg for the green IE logo. :D - HanSolo69, on 09/26/2008, -0/+15Is there an iPhone app that will check your grammar on Digg submissions?
- Soniti, on 09/26/2008, -14/+27What the *****? Why am I getting dugg down? This is a valid question. I need to know if it does that because I make use of Iphonemodem a lot and yet the battery drains so much it impedes that use.
Whoever dugg me down, ***** you. - thecompkid, on 09/26/2008, -3/+15*golf clap*
- Laminarcissus, on 09/26/2008, -0/+12Worse, a 30-year-old trying to be down with the kids.
- darkism, on 09/26/2008, -1/+13Because Bluetooth is so blazing fast.
- ozziek, on 09/26/2008, -0/+10the ONLY reason? really?
- kidjay, on 09/26/2008, -3/+12sorry but did a 12 year old write this article? sux? excuse me?
- inactive, on 09/26/2008, -2/+11Yeah seriously, I could open up illustrator and make a better logo blindfolded.
- inactive, on 09/26/2008, -0/+8The point of this app is to connect to 3G and route that to other devices as wifi.
- elitexero, on 09/26/2008, -0/+8And oh so incredibly steady, reliable and immune to any sort of interference whatsoever.
- grendel20, on 09/26/2008, -0/+7I recently installed pdanet, and i have to say it's incredible. Even on the EDGE network, it works so flawlessly. I wonder if they're going to incorporate WEP protection.
- whataboutdave, on 09/26/2008, -0/+7Hopefully this will force Apple's hand to include first-party functionality.
- Phisolo, on 09/26/2008, -0/+6It takes that 7 minutes for iPhone modem IF you want FULL internet. iPhone Modem is pretty quick to set up, for Safari (if you have their "helper app" installed), but If you want/need other Internet enabled apps, you need to manually set up a socks proxy every time. So this IS a big deal. I use iPhone modem every few days but I usually forego using Firefox etc. because of the extra PITA. This has made me more aware of how many apps I use are "Internet enabled" since those parts don't work thru the iPhone modem with out extra manual configuration.
- inactive, on 09/26/2008, -0/+5The new pwn and quickpwn work flawlessly. I jailbroke mine the other night without a single hitch.
- Phisolo, on 09/26/2008, -0/+5I have used iPhone Modem, it works well, but I sure would like to use Mail, and firefox, with out all of the hassle of setting up the socks proxy each time. I should have this going about 3 minutes after hitting save comment! Yeeeehaaaw!
- amsoell, on 04/20/2009, -1/+6Is anyone having any luck with this? I couldn't get PdaNet to recognize that my phone was connected to wifi *and* my cell carrier at the same time... It always complains about not being connected to one or the other.
- edicius, on 09/26/2008, -0/+5Obviously not.
- kashem, on 09/26/2008, -0/+5I don't know -- netshare is pretty easy to use. In fact, I'm using it right now, in a car ride somewhere in BFE Oregon.
- ElRayQuieres, on 09/26/2008, -1/+6Soniti, being a dick isn't going to get your question answered.
- inactive, on 09/26/2008, -0/+5***** yeah!
- tomz17, on 09/26/2008, -0/+5Good job catching up... WMWifiRouter FTW!
- CannedCorn, on 09/26/2008, -1/+5This app would be way better if it didn't require you join an ad-hoc network that your computer creates. The iPhone should be creating the network... that would make things way easier. Pretty cool though.
- Philbert, on 09/26/2008, -0/+4Doesn't AT&T get kinda ticked off if you tether your iPhone? (I don't want to hear "so don't use AT&T")
- fuelcarddotorg, on 09/26/2008, -0/+4PDAnet with the desktop application>*
- amsoell, on 04/20/2009, -0/+4Got it working. I'm not sure why it didn't work the first four times I tried, but it did finally work after I used Mobile Terminal to try to SSH into my computer.
- AndrewWiggin, on 09/26/2008, -0/+4Correct. The reason this is news is because you don't have to configure your browser on your laptop like with other Apps (Netshare, iPhoneModem, or tethering through SSL with the terminal). This gives your laptop the internet just like if you were using regular wifi.
- xsecretfiles, on 09/26/2008, -0/+4Same here, I open cydia every morning lol
- z00k, on 09/26/2008, -4/+8I use PDANet for my Palm Treo 700wx.
Connect using Bluetooth, Fast internet, unlimited bandwidth, Full win. - inactive, on 09/26/2008, -0/+4PDANet is not showing up in Cydia. Any advice? I'm dying to use this!!
- christophocles, on 09/26/2008, -1/+5who cares? ***** at&t and their $40 a month extra "tethering" plan. Your phone is capable of ICS already, so just use it. This is *especially* so for Windows Mobile phones where the ICS app is already built in and AT&T simply removes the icon for the app in the start menu. LOL, they want you pay them $40 a month for a freaking icon!
But seriously, from what I hear, they cannot tell the difference between normal phone data usage and tethering except by the volume of traffic. So don't go crazy, keep it under 5 gigs per month or so and you will be fine. And I bet they would bitch at you for using too much data even IF you were paying for tethering. - Gatesgamer33, on 09/26/2008, -0/+4Try updating the package lists.
- RyomaNagare, on 09/27/2008, -0/+3how can I use quickpwn on a 2.1 iphone 3g?
it would be my first time doing it, and downloading the devteam version said i needed 2.0.2.
any links with usefull info? - ssj2119, on 09/26/2008, -2/+5You would use this to connect to the internet on your laptop via your iPhone, correct?
- etruscan, on 09/26/2008, -1/+4I think his question states that even with it plugged in, the phone drains faster than it charges. I didn't digg him down, and I don't know the validity of that claim, but there you go.
- AndrewWiggin, on 09/26/2008, -0/+3Anyone in Canada using Rogers' special offer 6 GB for $30 plan and tethering? I'm curious if they allow it or not. I tried to find a Terms of Service but the plan but I couldn't so it must mean that we can tether? Anyone?
- jakem1, on 09/26/2008, -2/+5All this trouble just to tether a phone?
- WiseWeasel, on 09/26/2008, -0/+3As long as AT&T is going to be a bitch about it, don't hold your breath. At best, we can hope for an app from AT&T that only works if you pay an extra $30/mo for tethering capabilities. I think I'll stick with this free option for the rare occasions I need this ability...
- WiseWeasel, on 09/26/2008, -0/+3Unusable for gaming would be the way I describe 3G and EDGE latency in general, but if you're happy with that right now, it should be roughly the same...
- angrycat, on 09/26/2008, -1/+4The app has an ugly icon but other than that it's amazing.
- mobilehavoc, on 09/27/2008, -0/+3Just so people realize, AT&T can easily detect when you're tethering so don't be surprised if you start getting charged pay-per-use and/or you get a nasty gram from them. Enjoy while you can
- ericd, on 09/26/2008, -0/+3It works with T-MobileWeb.
- inactive, on 09/27/2008, -0/+3No it won't
- macslut, on 09/27/2008, -1/+4Sweet Baby Jesus, Infant Jesus, Bearded Jesus and Zombie Jesus all rolled into one Super Mega Jesus!
I saw this post, downloaded the app, connected online all in 5 minutes. Everything works...Entourage, FTP, FireFox (I'm using it now), Audium, Remote Desktop, Google Earth. There's no configuration needed at all other than setting a couple of clicks to set up a computer-to-computer WiFi on your Mac and then connecting to it on the iPhone and launching the app. It shows who all is connected, the bytes, DNS lookups and connections.
This really makes my day...or weekend actually. I'm on my boat and need to do some work. I can now cruise around without having to find hotspots.
By the way, this app definitely wins the worst icon to most wonderful app ratio award. -
