- mrdeathgod, on 08/04/2008, -1/+180Please please please fix the interface lagging...
- Chasiepoo, on 08/05/2008, -1/+101Word is the update fixed:
"-You can now drag an app icon across multiple pages in one motion, rather than having to drag it, drop it, pick it up again and drag it over to next page, and repeat.
-Contacts are now more responsive.
-After installing 2.0.1, each successive backup is much faster.
-Apple may have changed the calibration of the iPhone's reception "bars" while connected to a 3G network to reflect a stronger signal than before.
-Keypad loads quicker."
-Apple Insider - crozewski, on 08/05/2008, -9/+83My impressions of Firmware 2.0.1 (5B10B), application by application on a 3G 16GB iPhone:
NOTE: I have never had any issues with backing up taking forever, my iPhone experience has been very very smooth.
SMS
While typing, the keys raise and fall much more in tune with where your fingers are. Much nicer, more direct feeling. Delays from 2.0 are greatly reduced.
Addressing new SMSs is quicker.
Calendar
Overall quicker response. Application launches faster
Photos
Photos rotate soon after iPhone is tilted. Faster than 2.0
Camera
nothing new here
Youtube
transitions between the application and movies are smoother.
app launches faster.
movies load faster.
I believe there is a quality improvement of the videos.
Stocks
Application actually launched slow on first tap.
Maps
Application effects (little page curl) and address look ups are faster. Moving the map around seems to be the same.
Weather
same
Clock
same
Calculator
rotating seems to be slightly faster. not by much
Notes
nothing different
Settings
Didn't really poke around here much yet for the sake of time
iTunes store
Did all the album art always load when you searched? It does now.
App store
Bottom buttons seem to be more responsive
Phone
No delay when looking at contacts! Bottom buttons switch to that part of the app very quickly; no delay. Everything is snappier here.
Mail (I have 4 IMAP mailboxes in mail)
Everything is faster here. switching between accounts and mailboxes is fast now! Can scroll soon as you get into the desired mailbox or folder.
Safari
I don't notice much different here
iPod
Seems like there is still some 2.0 style delays here when you press the bottom buttons to switch between artist, video, etc... - PPCG4, on 08/04/2008, -3/+68Hasn't bricked my jailbroken 3G. I did lose the jailbreak and my apps downloaded via Cydia.

} - dchoward1977, on 08/04/2008, -1/+56Here goes...hope this fixes 2.0's issues. I miss the quickness and smoothness of the 1.x.x releases.

http://appldnld.apple.com.edgesuite.net/content.in ... - richardweed, on 08/05/2008, -3/+52It's an awesome phone, best mobile internet ever.
- teh_spazz, on 08/04/2008, -1/+49It's an entirely NEW firmware. You aren't downloading separate patches, but a new image.
- inactive, on 08/05/2008, -3/+45Digging this on my iPhone with the new update.
Wow, I've completely sold out to the man... - alex7575, on 08/05/2008, -3/+40You got some cojones on you man
- mattgilberg, on 08/05/2008, -9/+40After all of those damn betas, there shouldn't have been this many bugs in the first place.
- hungryduck, on 08/05/2008, -0/+30Seems much faster too me. The problems with the accelerometer are finally fixed. Best of all though apps don't crash anymore!
Unfortunately backing up still takes forever. - drewfer, on 08/05/2008, -1/+31Don't worry all, NetShare is safe (for now...)
- Wang, on 08/05/2008, -4/+27Please Apple...fix the bug where mail gets stuck "connecting..." to a mail server and then drains the *entire* battery in just a few hours...
- supermanred, on 08/05/2008, -0/+22It's entirely new firmware, they always give you the whole thing... so that's basically OS X for iPhone in 250mb, not bad seeing as some past releases were 370mb and had less features.
- inactive, on 08/05/2008, -0/+20*Dives for his iphone to upgrade*
Did anyone else with a 3g have a note in their notepad that said "Boy was I surprised. I found my ass."
I really really did have that on a brand new 16gb iphone. - Iwantawii, on 08/05/2008, -4/+23˙˙˙ƃuıƃƃɐl ǝɔɐɟɹǝʇuı ǝɥʇ xıɟ ǝsɐǝld ǝsɐǝld ǝsɐǝld
- booticon, on 08/05/2008, -0/+19Yeah, it fixed lag when composing SMS's, as well as when pulling up your contacts. For the record I updated to 2.0.1 on my iPhone 3G.
- PPCG4, on 08/05/2008, -4/+22It's been out for 15 minutes. Chill.
- inactive, on 08/05/2008, -3/+20THE IPHONE GODS FIXED IT
- dhmlco, on 08/05/2008, -7/+23"You can now drag an app icon across multiple pages in one motion, rather than having to drag it, drop it, pick it up again and drag it over to next page, and repeat."
You could always do this, just had to drag it to an edge, back off a bit, and then drag it to the edge again. Repeat. Rinse. - dragonzmajic, on 08/04/2008, -5/+20Yay! A new firmware update probably means harder to jailbreak! Choose wisely!
- josephhac, on 08/05/2008, -1/+15Remember, you did PAY for NetShare. They can't just take it away from you because the evil telcos tell them to stop selling it.
- antich, on 08/05/2008, -0/+14Netshare still works for me after updating.
- bigsteve, on 08/05/2008, -0/+14Every update is a whole iPhone OS filesystem zipped up. They don't distribute a bunch of patches.
- supermanred, on 08/05/2008, -2/+15Just restored my iPhone (it WAS jailbroken, but I decided to try the new firmware) and Ive already found one intersting thing... It is doing the first SYNC and instead of my phone switching to Sync mode, it appears to be completely usable and as iTunes is installing the apps, the icons are appearing one by one on my phone... pretty cool.
- supermanred, on 08/05/2008, -2/+15To update a firmware, which cannot be updated while the hardware is, you know, running...yeah.
Noob. - loconet, on 08/05/2008, -4/+17Dragging it to the edge and then back off a bit is not a single motion.
- nunofgs, on 08/05/2008, -5/+17"-You can now drag an app icon across multiple pages in one motion, rather than having to drag it, drop it, pick it up again and drag it over to next page, and repeat."
I'm on 2.0 and I just checked. I can already do that. - inactive, on 08/05/2008, -2/+14Without a doubt. Just got mine recently and I've been hooked ever since.
- isimon42o, on 08/04/2008, -0/+11I hope it stops the auto back up. I would have no problem stopping it every time but I learned that each time it starts a back up, it will automatically keep it even if it is only a partial back up. Therefor If you stop the back up and need to restore, you will install the partial back up not the last full back up.

Fail much? - Poison985, on 08/05/2008, -0/+10If it is on your Applications list on iTunes, you shouldn't have any problem. One user with Netshare commented that he still had Netshare working after updating the OS. Just be sure to do a backup before updating it.
- wiifm69, on 08/05/2008, -1/+11And also if the screen you needed to drag past was already full, then it would push an icon off the screen.
/rant - starkruzr, on 08/05/2008, -0/+10No, that's not happening unless Apple changes the hardware.
They're not THAT interested in stopping jailbreak, and unlocks are far, far away at this point on the 3G.
All that has to happen now, AFAIK, is for the Dev Team to update PwnageTool. - spidermedic, on 08/05/2008, -0/+9Just upgraded my 1st gen.(no jailbreak) from 2.0
Here's what I'm getting right off the top:
Thumbs Up:
-All of my settings, icon locations remained intact. :)
-The lag in contacts is gone
-Phone screen seems faster switching between contacts, favs, etc.
-Safari responds to rotation faster
-Keyboard doesn't appear to be lagging
-Camera seems a little faster
Thumbs Down:
-Backup is as slow as ever
-Mail still lags when selecting or deleting a msg
-I've already had an app crash -- doesn't bode well for the stability issues
-ITunes Remote is not working - yes I reinstalled and did a hard reset. x2 (running xp) It worked 10 minutes ago, WTF?!!1!
Overall I give it the upgrade a 'meh' as I'm bumming over remote. - zwaldowski, on 08/05/2008, -0/+9Damn, I thought I was crazy. My iPoT kept doing that, and when I downgraded to 1.1.4 this morning I sure was surprisded.
- adriaaan, on 10/12/2008, -0/+8And they were not bricked, only temporarily disabled, a fix was found within days.
- kraetos, on 08/05/2008, -4/+12Jailbroken phones were never bricked, just unlocked phones.
- loconet, on 08/05/2008, -2/+10Thank you for letting us know. We were worried about when you were going to upgrade.
- unida767, on 08/05/2008, -0/+8Thanks:)

NetShare status report 2
"We've finally gotten in contact with Apple. Looks like the lack of communication was due to automated e-mail systems being employed on both ends, which resulted in e-mails being lost in transit. We're working with Apple to get NetShare back up on the AppStore." - InfernoBob, on 08/05/2008, -0/+8I just tested it on 2.0.1 and it is the same as it as been since 1.1.2.
- Mizzike, on 08/05/2008, -1/+9Yes, I believe that's how it works.
- kylesherman, on 08/05/2008, -3/+10I swear I just read you were waiting to get back from the Vatican to install...funny
- digiguy, on 08/05/2008, -2/+9There are other phones to choose from
- synyster, on 08/05/2008, -2/+8not in a million years
- Photar, on 08/05/2008, -0/+6Anyone else get the MDCrashReportTool quit unexpectedly error every time they plug in their iPhone?
