- Archon810, on 10/12/2007, -3/+33wtf, that little box read on-screen text better than Windows does in 2006!
- tomoniki, on 10/12/2007, -3/+28Steve with a suit on? I guess he did own those once. And hair? what a different look
- wastern, on 10/12/2007, -7/+31he didn't find it, its been on the net for years now on dozens of site, its probably been on digg a few times before as well. this is purely blog spam as it was alomst a given it would make it to the front page
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+24You have to put this in perspective. Before the mac, computers were command line only monsters (for the most part). When you saw a Mac and it could do such free form things, and even speak, it was out of this world - arguably the most 'magic' technology ever seen in the industry, and unlikely to be bested, unless someone comes up with a computer that you can have a natural conversation with.
- flag564, on 10/12/2007, -8/+28"By this video i have tears in my eyes."
Dude , grow up. Its a f'ing computer, not a cult...
Wait, I forgot where this is posted. - Claymore, on 10/12/2007, -2/+21Take a look at what everyone else was wearing in 1984. It was a scary time for "fashion".
- MariusTh, on 10/12/2007, -3/+18well duh, it's a vid from 1984.
- Scott2, on 10/12/2007, -3/+17And Linux fans need to get off whats wrong with Linux. OMG, COTTON NIGHTIES ARE KEEPING IT FROM MAINSTREAM!
- psbpv3o, on 10/12/2007, -9/+22Macintosh Insanely great!
- punkrockxtian, on 10/12/2007, -2/+14For a second I thought it said "unsanely great"
- uncleboogie, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13Wow! Same old Mac nuts and market leader bashing way back in '84. I love the part when the crowd cheers for "battle chess". NERDS!!!!!!!!!!!! +Digg
- Crackshot, on 10/12/2007, -3/+14I've alsways thought that Steve looked like Tucker Carlson back then.
Maybe its the bow tie but I thought that Jon Stewart was going to jump out any minute and make fun of him. - NSResponder, on 10/12/2007, -6/+17Wow, eighty bucks for someone to harangue you about how evil your country is?
Man, Chomsky's got a sweet gig.
-jcr - psiit, on 10/12/2007, -5/+16But if you want to add the video to your youtube favorites, the direct youtube link helps alot
- psiit, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12I know! It even knew how to add a little pause after the word "pride" for emphasis :-|
- dangerousLEH, on 10/12/2007, -4/+15Dude, those people went nuts! haha, awesome video.
- IQ70, on 10/12/2007, -13/+23WTF? Tears in your eyes? Who died?
- ndm007, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9I'm pretty sure this is not the first keynote that Steve did.
I've seen many from the late 70's and one in 1983, where he tells a story about how the computer industry has formed, talking about IBM and the upcoming Macintosh. - joel8x, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11That was cool - first time I ever saw that vid. Thanks poster. It's amazing when you put it into context - in 1984 there was nothing like this available for the consumer market. Can you imagine the feeling of seeing this for the first time live? I think we'd all be cheering like lunatics as well.
- DWatch, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11lol, submitter SO wants to give Mr. Jobs a reach-around.
- goingstuckey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Did anyone else notice that the calculator application was basically the same in 1.0 as in 9?
- booc0mtaco, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8exactly.
It's hard to imagine such a thing today, as it would have been back in 1984. When you compare that presentation to it's competitors, PC-DOS, CP/M, and even the apple II, you can imagine most people in the audience who weren't actually part of the dev. team (apple was tight-lipped then, as well) were completely astounded.
And, until we have a fully 3d, thought-controlled, multi-user, holographic computer system (or something... i can't think of anything truly impressive), people won't ever be that surprised again. - flamingmb, on 10/12/2007, -5/+13one of my favorite old vids.
- ultmast, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9This was a huge step forward, and everyone there seemed to recognize it pretty quickly.
Imagine the applause if Ford introduced a car that got 700 miles per gallon and could fly for short distances. - bass0, on 10/12/2007, -13/+20That was the alpha, the genesis, the first fire, the revolution, the beginning of a new era.
The birth of the first real personal computer.
Pick anything you like: fast cars, your favourite music, paintings, your favourite dish, Playboy bunnies, you name it. Think of how it came to exist and what difference it makes in today's world. What difference it makes for YOU. Then try to hold back the tears. - CeeAyy, on 10/12/2007, -5/+12Splitt3rxx, Why are you reading Apple articles if you don't like Apple? That's not normal behavior. Every time I see one of you guys I have to wonder about you. You can go to the Playgirl website all day and I won't follow you there just to make comments about your choice... You don't make sense. Do you go to gay bars to talk about the men there? That wouldn't be my choice. If I don't like something I stay away. If you can't help it, seek therapy. (or come out of the closet)
- deff, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9Steve Jobs is one of the most inspirational figure heads in his field. I like watching all his keynotes just because he truely believes in his products.
- spkaine, on 10/12/2007, -7/+13+digg becuase it's part of history. "We've come a long way, baby!"
- Markie1006, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9Just thinking, but maybe English isn't his first language?
How's your Japanese BTW? - Xilon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6@flag564, first of all it's a Mac ;) And second it was a revolutionary computer...
- vbsurfer, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9From the credits at the end of the vidoeo, we need to thank Scott Knaster and TextLab
- MoebiusStrip, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6poor Jef Raskin..
- anonydigg, on 10/12/2007, -4/+9maybe that was a girl. there are a few of them around.
- RealSurreal, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7why do i feel after watching this video that I would have had more respect for him then than i would now?
- linuxinsidev2, on 10/12/2007, -5/+10For me i find this video to be an emotional thing, not a tearjerking thing but it started what we have today. and was the most advanced personal computer of the time, i suggest a few of you watch a movie called "pirates of silicon valley"
- flag564, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5""Awwwww you emo fanboy."
QFT, lol apple fanboys are so gay."
Between this and the posted stories about high res images of Jobs and nude pictures of him, Im starting to think this guys are "playing for the other team". - myownminerva, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5"never trust a computer you can't lift" = classic
- Foofy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6"i have tears in my eyes"
This is what separates Apple zealots from normal human beings. - p2btech, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6It's both ways, Apple haters will pose their opinion on Apple related topics just like when theres a Microsoft related topic the Microsoft haters pose their opinion, it goes both ways.
- G5geek, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6he kind of looked like a cheap magician, but it was "one large amout of code for man, one giant leap for computer kind"
- ayeroxor, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6"isent the truth"
You sent the truth? - Foofy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5The Xerox Alto predates the Mac by 11 years.
Age alone means nothing, I'm sure there's a politician you don't like that happens to be older than you. It's not a replacement for actual argument or discussion. The "teat thing" is sheer laziness. I don't respect my elders, I respect my superiors. - ayeroxor, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Maybe he likes Apple, just not emo apple fanbois.
- Foofy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Exactly. It's the part of the story everyone skips right over: Raskin started the Mac project and does a lot of work. Jobs cancels the budget. Raskin carries on anyway. Raskin eventually convinces Jobs to take a visit to PARC, hoping he'd better understand his plans. Jobs returns, takes over the project, and sends Raskin off to write documentation.
History is made! - btipling, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5@swankboy
What are you babbeling about? Blogspam is horrible, how can you defend that crap? They're usually written terrible, they're not authorative, they are not the source, are not informed and are just either some kid who wants to see a what happens to a page counter when it's dugg, or worse, someone trying to get google ads. Thank god they'll never get the $100 it takes to cash out. No where near that, I got dug once and I get like $5 (I was the source, something I made). - wolfdude96, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4i don't know if u can call this vid rare anymore
- lxpk, on 10/12/2007, -8/+12I saw a SteveNote at WWDC last year when he introduced Intel Macs and I must say it was more exciting than seeing Noam Chomsky (for which I had to buy an $80 scalper ticket ) or any rock concert I've ever attended.
- themacx, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6He's also "nice and knuffly" :p
