- thekms, on 08/24/2008, -0/+266I can't find the particular link, but I know I saw that on macrumors and it was a mock-up made by a user. Someone just put it in ad form; it looks good but it's not the real thing, sorry.
Edit: Here's the thread, several pics of it within: http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=54265 ... - inactive, on 08/24/2008, -3/+158have fun cutting a cake with that... HP
- richman241, on 08/24/2008, -8/+122wow that looks nice, like a thicker, more powerful air
- telepheedian, on 08/24/2008, -2/+114"thicker, more powerful air"
Macbook Wind? - JamesZB, on 08/24/2008, -1/+91http://www.neowin.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=65 ...
- jarinudom, on 08/24/2008, -1/+89Macbook HURRICANE
- CowboyBebop, on 08/24/2008, -9/+86Sheesh, it doesn't look much bigger than the Macbook Air. If this is true, I wonder how much or if they'll hopefully be even cheaper than the current line of Macbook Pros. Either way, it looks like a sweet machine.
- Lostcosmos, on 08/24/2008, -10/+82Looks fake to me. The lid seems a shade lighter than the bottom. But then again, if someone were to fake this they would probably do a better job.
- kinseyincanada, on 08/24/2008, -15/+87im I the only one who doesnt like the black keyboard?
- lukemorris, on 08/24/2008, -5/+73If Apple demands it to be taken down in 24 hours, then it's legit.
- jakerudy7, on 08/24/2008, -17/+79im impressed, this actually looks like it could be real
- inactive, on 08/24/2008, -4/+64Wonder if these ones are coming with Blu-Ray built in?
- phrenzy, on 08/24/2008, -1/+55Apple doesn't use the phrasing "less than one inch thick" they always say "less than one inch THIN"
- Mandegar0, on 08/24/2008, -7/+58***** you! Two of my friends died by getting old!
- killerknives, on 08/24/2008, -0/+50you can always tell the ads are fake. apple always has a clever slogan and the fake ones just has obvious overused slogans
- rpark, on 08/24/2008, -4/+51PRICE LEAKED. To be priced like all MacBook Pros. $2000+.
- damonic, on 08/24/2008, -8/+51I prefer the silver keyboard of the last generation MBP.
- Urkel, on 08/25/2008, -0/+38Don't be silly. Macbook Pros aren't made to cut cake. They're for baking them.
- cadmiumpaint, on 08/24/2008, -5/+35this is 100000% fake.
no technical specs...on a PRO LEVEL computer? whoever made this fake ad doesn't understand how apples product line works.
the copyrighting is amateur at best. they'd never replace the backlit keyboard with the cheap macbook one. - jtbandes, on 08/24/2008, -0/+26Fake. It's not like apple to use a hyphen as an em dash, and the fonts are wrong. Also, look at the lower corners of the front-on picture.
- thedragon4453, on 08/24/2008, -3/+29Well, if the specs are there, I'll be pleased with this. I love the design of the current ones, so I was hoping when they did a refresh they wouldn't change it too much. And I sincerely hoped they wouldn't go to plastic like they did with the iPhone 3G.
- noliberalbull, on 08/24/2008, -7/+32probably BS, but I like it, so... dugg
- daversa, on 08/24/2008, -0/+22The kerning is really bad in the type... Apple doesn't let this happen. I'd imagine the real thing isn't too far off from that design though.
- tapo, on 08/24/2008, -3/+23Only Macbook Airs need to use an external or 'borrowed' optical drive, because they're subnotebooks. Macbooks and Macbook Pros all have optical drives.
- IncredibleHink, on 08/24/2008, -0/+19+1... is "Wireless" a feature worth mentioning anymore?
- thirty6chambers, on 08/24/2008, -1/+19nope. the typography stinks, the layout is really bad and what's up with that circle/ripple graphic emanating from beneath the laptop? besides looking terrible, the perspective is off.
- TheFinaleofSeem, on 08/24/2008, -0/+17Well, Apple did say they were going to reduce margin, so it might be a couple hundred bucks cheaper.
And sure, you can run BSD on most anything...if you specifically want OS X because it's UNIX. Maybe people want it for the whole package instead of the subsystems, hmm? Stop thinking like a geek and start thinking like a consumer. - fanclerks, on 08/24/2008, -0/+17Looks like we have a winner!!
- Rbstr, on 08/24/2008, -0/+16You didn't see this comming?
It's not like you need to be a prophet to have a guess at what apple is going to do. The MBP hasn't had anything particularly significant happen to it since the intel CPUs. - TheNeptune, on 08/24/2008, -3/+19Eh, you're right, they are more expensive, but in all fairness not be dramatic a lot of people don't calculate the time that Windows takes to maintain.
Here's how I look at the pricing:
MacBook Pro / $2,348 / 15" LCD / 2.4 GHz C2D / 2GB RAM / 200GB HDD / DVD / GeForce 8600M GT 256 MB / 3 year warranty
Dell XPS / $1,785 / 15" LCD / 2.4 GHz C2D / 2GB RAM / 250GB HDD / DVD / GeForce 8600M GT 256 MB / 3 year warranty
Apple likes to boast that there's no premium /platinum /enterprise etc versions of OSX, this config of Dell only gets you Vista Home, so that's missing in the cost too. OSX comes with no bundled bloatware like Dell systems do.
Really, in my mind you're paying a $563 premium for a less hassle experience, superior customer service and better designed product. The premium is there, but it's not like comparing a 50k Toyota to a 25k Honda (though I'd argued that's ridiculous example too.) - noloveIII, on 08/24/2008, -0/+16no I prefer my aluminum one as well
- asskey, on 08/24/2008, -2/+18Macbook Great Red Spot?
/geek - GardenDoor, on 08/24/2008, -2/+16Macs are expensive, but sheesh...1,500k?
- DannyDriffs, on 08/25/2008, -0/+14Could look different with a nice LED backlight. But the color contrast does scream, "Not Apple!"
- Ajjah, on 08/24/2008, -2/+16Would that make it the... iBlow?
- cgomez, on 08/25/2008, -0/+13It's fake for one simple reason - Apple never calls their laptops thick. This ad says "less than one inch thick" whereas Apple would say "less than one inch thin".
- TheNeptune, on 08/24/2008, -6/+19Agreed, will mindlessly buy just for looks.
- mcpepsi957, on 08/25/2008, -0/+12Hey all,
This is a quick ad I created in Photoshop that was not meant to be taken as the real thing. On the actual image there is text on the bottom admitting it's a render, but I see that was stripped. I purposely limited my creative liberties in order to create a realistic progression of the MacBook Pro product line, while at the same time appeasing my curiosity for what a hybrid between the Macbook Air and the MacBook Pro would look like.
To the gentleman who noticed the missing latch indent - bravo. I realize the copy is a bit, well, awful, but I did it quite fast. Rest assured, I will be fixing the errors that have been brought to my attention and updating it on my website.
Thanks for the Digg, I'm flattered =].
-Michael Ciarlo - noPCtoday, on 08/24/2008, -23/+35The cake is a lie
- wronski, on 08/24/2008, -2/+14Very little change. Hopefully that's unlike the internal parts.
- octoberism, on 08/24/2008, -0/+12Nice find.
- RetlawST, on 08/24/2008, -0/+11The reason Apple went with plastic was purely technical. Metal cases mess with wireless signal and Apple's been having enough trouble's with the plastic cases but it would have been worse had they not changed.
Laptops, on the other hand have the ability to stretch out the antenna and still get decent signal strength with metal cases. - groo68, on 08/24/2008, -1/+12I wonder if it can still burn you.
- lil666jrkatz, on 08/24/2008, -0/+11The rhetoric is not up to Apple's standards. Sorry, but I don't believe this is real. When is the last time Apple leaked a legit promo?
- inactive, on 08/24/2008, -2/+13better pic here http://updatecenter.britannica.com/eb/image?binary ...
- aechase, on 08/24/2008, -0/+11I can tell from some of the pixels.
- goofygarber, on 08/24/2008, -0/+11Its not. I saw the first image there posted on Macrumors in a "post your mockup" thread.
- Stewballs2111, on 08/24/2008, -2/+12nah, the laptops have a drop shadow and not the shiny web 2.0 reflection, can't be apple.
- garbs, on 08/24/2008, -0/+10The keys on the current Macbook Pro are actually plastic. They are just painted with that "aluminum" finish.
