- potifar, on 11/21/2007, -0/+49Now that's a friggin' expensive phone.
- SinisterDexter, on 11/21/2007, -0/+36After running that through Babelfish I came up with the following...
Your hamster has my hand grenade. Call a priest, I have been shot. - blurrie, on 11/21/2007, -3/+34holy god. or. you can get a black macbook. and run a fully functional version of os x. for the same price! epic lulz.
- sinurgy, on 11/21/2007, -1/+27They are forced to sell an unlocked iPhone so of course they just put it at a ridiculous price that most people would never pay. So really when it comes down to it, the iPhone is still pretty much locked.
- kazzyD, on 11/21/2007, -0/+16Unlocked iPhones will also soon be official in France as well:
http://www.techconsumer.com/2007/11/21/european-la ... - inactive, on 11/21/2007, -1/+17that's like a semester's tuition where i went to school.
- kineticarl, on 11/21/2007, -2/+17Dear Germans,
Here's some advice: Wait 3 months. Or fly to NY for the weekend. Holy crap those are crazy prices. - zyl0x, on 11/21/2007, -2/+15You mean Germany....?
- insomniac8400, on 11/21/2007, -0/+13I wonder if they will devise a way to unlock an iphone to be safe from being bricked like the officially unlocked iphones. At the price difference between the two, they are going to create a very lucrative ebay market of safe from being bricked unlocked iphones.
- czechman86, on 11/21/2007, -3/+15NINE HUNDRED NINETY NINE EURO!?!?!?
- lychondy, on 11/21/2007, -0/+11That's one way to get you to go under contract.
- damienhunter, on 11/21/2007, -0/+9They're just rehashing their price to collect two years worth of service fees without providing any services.
- darkened, on 11/21/2007, -2/+11or a cheap car.
- ToastPop, on 04/17/2009, -2/+10The use of your mom is superfluous.
- SimonGray, on 11/21/2007, -0/+8It can also get you a good time with a high class hooker. What is your point?
- macslut, on 11/21/2007, -0/+8Misleading title. It should read "T-Mobile Offering to Sell Unlocked iPhones in Germany"
- creep303, on 11/21/2007, -1/+8And there you were getting educated in lieu of saving for a completely pointless lifestyle gadget. For shame.
- Speed, on 11/21/2007, -1/+8Holy *****, where the hell did you go to school? That's like a quarter of a semesters tuition for me.
- megadan76, on 11/21/2007, -0/+7buried: reason idiot
- ChrisBensch, on 11/21/2007, -1/+8Since I bought a US version iPhone (after the price drop of course), I'm wondering if we can just load the German OS on ours and then just choose English as the language?
- Chirp08, on 11/21/2007, -0/+7Or 10 prositutes, or 100 really fat prostitutes, fat chicks need love to, they just have to pay!
- Speed, on 11/21/2007, -3/+9Translation for the very few Germans on Digg:
Kauft ein iPhone nicht fur drei monate. Order nach New York fliegen fur die wocheende. Sheisse, die Preise sind verrukt.
Sorry, my German isn't the best, but thats roughly the translation. - cygnus183, on 11/21/2007, -1/+7Is the iPhone quad band? If not, the European version might not get the best reception here.
- insomniac8400, on 11/21/2007, -0/+6It has to be nice to be from england right now. You can come here and by tons of electronics and pay for your flight and shipping for any big items and still save a ton of money. US dollar FTL.
- TransmitThis, on 11/21/2007, -1/+71 477 U.S. dollars = 720.0312 British pounds
Just in case you wanted to know ;) - AndreasTh, on 11/21/2007, -1/+7Scheisse!
- xxtez, on 11/21/2007, -0/+6BUT ITS LESS THAN ONE THOUSAND!!!!
- aliengoods, on 11/21/2007, -4/+9Where was that? Somewhere between 1950 and 1960?
- vertinox, on 11/21/2007, -1/+6ITS OVER NINE HUNDRED!!!!
- BubbaJunior, on 11/21/2007, -8/+13$1477? That's one way to see who the real Apple fanboys are in France..
- slimnickyy, on 11/21/2007, -0/+5And to note that the phone sold on contract at 399 will ALSO be available for unlock at no extra fee.
- getoffmybridge, on 05/05/2009, -1/+5That's highway robbery!!!!!!!!
- slimnickyy, on 11/21/2007, -0/+4Why wait or fly to NY? Doesn't make sense at all, they're locked there too. You can buy a phone in the UK without contract and take a train.
- blup3ace, on 11/21/2007, -0/+4if they have unlocked iphones supported officially in germany, then the firmware updates have to support unlocked phones.
- joelhardi, on 11/21/2007, -0/+4I can't wait to see what the German court (or possibly the EU Commission) has to say about this. Apple you can't be serious!
This kind of crap may fly in the U.S., where the FTC will rubber-stamp anything that helps an American company against foreign competitors, but not so in Europe. - slimnickyy, on 11/21/2007, -0/+4There is no special firmware. They (T-Mobile DE) will unlock phones already sold on contract from the 19th, thus there is some type of code to be entered into the phone. Details are still sketchy, but what is for certain is the unlocked phone isn't unlocked at point of manufacturer, but is done so after the fact.
- localzuk, on 11/21/2007, -0/+4I doubt it will fly. It is simply like saying 'we are complying! We sell it without a contract, its only £1billion'
- leerayIG88, on 11/21/2007, -1/+5They could buy their phones from eBay.... That's my two pennies.
- inactive, on 11/21/2007, -0/+4Yep. it is quad band. http://www.apple.com/iphone/specs.html
- TheSnuffster, on 11/21/2007, -2/+6LOUD NOISES!!
- jmichaelg, on 11/22/2007, -0/+3I suspect it's Jobs' way of flipping off the court.
- zspeed78, on 11/21/2007, -1/+4I remember the days when I was 15 and that dumb.
- syphern, on 11/21/2007, -0/+3OMG OMG MY PENIS EXPLODED!!!!!!!!
- misterhat, on 11/22/2007, -0/+3You really spliced him up with all those commas
- HolyChimp, on 11/22/2007, -0/+3Yeah, and we get screwed by 'Topup' fees that only passed thanks to Scottish votes, even though it didn't affect the Scots... Bastards!
- Walker2323, on 11/22/2007, -0/+3Wow, talk about a hijacked thread.
- vertinox, on 11/21/2007, -0/+3More like "Grosse Scheisse!"
- peestandingup, on 11/21/2007, -1/+4How would the state of Kentucky help??
- zspeed78, on 11/21/2007, -0/+2Making money PER iphone doesnt mean you already paid off the millions you spend making it. It also has to keep the rest of the phone market in line still... who would renew contracts if you were getting a better deal on a phone for it.
If you have a problem with all this, like someone making money of a technology that didnt exist when your parents were kids, then go buy yourself a CB radio, and tell us how it goes. Those are unlocked to all 40 channels I hear ;-) - naonao, on 11/21/2007, -0/+2No, I mean 4 years.
