- stealpick, on 10/12/2007, -1/+62I'll admit here and now that I was the guy at last year's WWDC walking down the hallways with my Apple Remote hidden under my arm and invoking everyone's Front Row. I wish I had video. It was hilarious to see everyone's head popping up to find the culprit.
- jads, on 10/12/2007, -1/+28You'd be surprised how many people think that the remote batteries are non-removable. I've seen a few people purchase additional remotes because the battery in the last one died. This one's more of a 'Duh' than a 'Trick' though.
- mateo60, on 10/12/2007, -0/+24I didn't know those. Being able to put my Mac to sleep from my remote is great. I sometimes go to bed and watch something on Front Row from across the room. I hate leaving my Mac on all night (It doesnt go to sleep automatically with Front Row on), so the Sleep function is a life saver.
- adcat, on 10/12/2007, -1/+22The submitter did qualify things by saying these were "stupid" tricks...
- compwizz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15jonmad17,
I actually dugg you up for that comment. I use a Mac myself and I love it, but what I liked about your comment is that you have at least tried out the Mac. Most people judge the Mac without really using one extensively, or just based on what other people say. It doesn't matter what operating system you use, if you still prefer Windows, Linux, or OS X that's great, if not, that's great too. But I think that everyone should try out different operating systems, you might be if for a pleasant surprise. - masaemon, on 10/12/2007, -1/+15Check out remote buddy.

This one cranks the apple remote like a cargo train full of steroids. - kevinHaney, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9MacWorld + Apple Remote = Fun
- gconeen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9you haven't even had it 24 hours!
I have Ubuntu, Windows, and OS X on my Macbook, but even given the choice, I use OS X the majority of the time. - chkmate21, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10So it was you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
- uranium, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11I watch some stuff on Front Row from my bed every night and put the iMac to sleep with the remote. And then in the morning the Awaken app wakes up my iMac automatically and plays a random song from my "wake up" playlist in iTunes. I keep snoozing the iMac with the remote until I decide to get up. Then I put the iMac back to sleep, grab my iPod and start my day.
Apple stop entering my life... I am sooo dependent on you! - headon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9They are all the same.
- 8177, on 10/12/2007, -0/+81500 for a ticket. you get the tickets ill get the camera and the remote.
- BLish, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9@stealpick ... i woulda paid good money to see that one!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Oh cacoe, from now on walk over turn off everything, including the TV. You'll see what he means.
- Iwantawii, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8I actually use the startup menu trick all the time. If you didn't RTFA, that's holding down the Menu button on the remote during your Mac's startup to select between BootCamp and Windows.
For some reason my Logitech Mx3000 wireless desktop will not register keys held down during startup, including the Option key. No Option-key = no BootCamp. Trouble is if you're running a laptop in Docked mode (lid shut, external kb, video, mouse) you have to open everything back up to get into BootCamp otherwise. - joltguy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9I somehow doubt that's even slightly fun, let alone "very" fun.
- Stradenko, on 10/12/2007, -8/+15Very very sad that "replace your battery" is a "trick."
- ophello, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7@ cacoe
COULD HAVE
NOT COULD OF - mediaphile, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5anyone who didn't bother to RTFM and learn about pairing their remote deserved to have their stuff messed with like that. a simple ten second procedure and you're locked down. kudos stealpick.
- ExSlashdotter, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4the intel iMacs have the same thing too.
- zephc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I use a few instances of the Alarm Clock widget (which starts iTunes playing) to wake me up in the morning, and the Apple remote as my snooze button.
- adc89, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Why are you digging headon down? They are exactly the same...
- mediaphile, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3holy *****, that's awesome. i haven't seen this info anywhere else, and i read the entire macbook manual. thanks for the tip agentorange.
- smilesofkarli, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3hahaha...i do that in my homeroom at school. i am in the AV room so there are two NEW iMacs sitting across the room from me and i left my remote in my purse so i use it every so often as a joke...a lot of kids were screaming as if it was a ghost changing everything...and i have yet to play something....that will be AMAZING.
- Jonmad17, on 10/12/2007, -15/+17I just got my first mac ever (a mackbook Pro) last night. And I love it so far.Good machine.Although i will always prefer windows.
- alrahman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2iAlertU looks cool, too bad I dont have a macbook.
- CheeseheadDave, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Is the remote that comes with Macs the same remote that can control an iPod dock or are they two different models?
- danjal, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1cool, i linked my mac to use only my remote... now if only i wasnt the only mac user in our house.. na, our town =/

G.O.B: "...or candy!" - 12man, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@ uranium
Just wait until the iPhone comes out.... - transmongified, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2what i'd really wish is for the apple remote to be used for "page up" and "page down" when viewing documents, pdfs etc. It would be really cool to have that little feature, while reading ebooks on my ibook, just to be able to flip the pages without having to reach out for the laptop.
ofcourse.. none of this matters coz i have a G3 iBook, waiting for leopard to upgrage.. - Angostura, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Thanks exslashdotter - didn't know that - now safely stowed
- bradtheraddad, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Dugg for the ninja pic.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Does this work with a MBP?
- sumskater41, on 10/12/2007, -8/+8dugg for pairing.
- dmitriyvoz, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0The author has mentioned very much a vital topic today. It seems to me that the problematics of this clause enables to reflect and draw conclusions. You can as to look sites in Russian which mention this theme: http://www.rolid.org http://www.se-ua.com
- tinnabatty, on 04/06/2009, -0/+0why stupid? maybe we'll say funny?

- turdigg, on 10/11/2007, -1/+0I actually use the startup menu trick all the time. If you didn't RTFA http://www.voyage-voyage.info , that's holding down the Menu button on the remote during your Mac's startup to select between BootCamp and Windows http://www.vip-tour.biz .
For some reason my Logitech Mx3000 wireless desktop will not register keys held down during startup, including the Option key http://www.viptraveler.info . - adcat, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1Because Windows automatically inserts spaces for you between sentences? Like this?
- Misaiato, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1BAD stealpick. VERY BAD. /chastise
- baharacer, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0@jonmad
Why?? - baharacer, on 10/12/2007, -8/+3Go into Comp USA with your remote and start playing with the computers, very fun.
- macdaddy23, on 10/12/2007, -8/+1the battery is installed dumb ass!
- chkmate21, on 10/12/2007, -9/+1All apple fans out there get an iLife.
By the way its sad that you cant really use that comment now. Most of the apple fanboys would just log on to store.apple.com to get that - ExSlashdotter, on 10/12/2007, -11/+2its only for the mac itself.
- Speck, on 10/12/2007, -17/+4And we're all sooo looking up to you for such a clever and "hilarious" stunt.
Way to go.
