- noelsusman, on 10/12/2007, -10/+23I'm not obsessed with Star Trek, and I don't use a Mac, but I do download podcasts
I guess I don't exist. Oh well, it's not the first time that's happened to me. - Hoffer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10Assuming there are weekly Star Trek podcasts. What is there to listen to? There are no TV shows or upcoming movies. What is going on in these podcasts.
I have a Mac and I listen to a number of podcasts, mostly about tech and videogames. I listen to them at work. - Crypty, on 10/12/2007, -4/+13I'm a computer enthusiast and I detest star trek.
- davepascoe, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10d'uh. Mac users use iTunes and computer enthusiasts in general like Star Trek.
- aptmunich, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6In other news, digg users are primarily males between 18-34 who enjoy tech stories.
- kylebrothert, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8NEWSFLASH.. most early-adopters of internet technology are trekkies.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Probably with a $5 microphone
- gmillerd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5With a quick search of 'trek' on the itunes store podcast section and it looks like they might be right.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Scotty beam me up the next episode of Tiki Bar TV, I need my LaLa fix and my Andorian Cocktail.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4"...anyone who actually downloads and listens to a bunch of losers talk on a £5 microphone deserves to be raped."
Wow. Were you molested as a child? - Flamekebab, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Am I alone in the whole of geekdom in hating Star Trek and finding it mind-numbingly boring and nerdy?
I adore the old Star Wars trilogy, but Star Trek never appealed at all.. - angelp, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I swear some of you are borderline retarded. Just because someone does a study, it doesn't mean those results apply to every single person who happens to identify with some of the criteria.
- Fryth, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Statistically, this means that pedophiles are more likely to like star trek than non-pedophiles. It doesn't say anything about star trek fans by themselves. It's the classic correlation-vs-causation mix-up which leads to such BS as the "gateway drug" theory...
Amusing study though. :) - nerdgoturd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2diggnation podcast!!
- nTensify, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"What is going on in these podcasts."
Just because there are no new Treks (as of now), doesn't mean that there isn't a HUGE body of people discussing old Treks and the meanings behind different things. Hell, look at the discussion of the traditional Treks from the 60s and you'll see that it doesn't matter at all that they've been in the can and the case has been closed for years.
Same can be said of just about any true Sci-Fi revolution, including older works of fiction like War of the Worlds, From the Earth to the Moon, etc. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I could care less about S/T but I am a Mac guy. It's twoo, it's twoo!
- BigPapi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I'm not a trekkie, and I've never owned a mac. I just find Karl Pilkington to be the weirdest person on the planet. Come to think of it, I don't even listen to any of the tech podcasts. It's mostly The Ricky Gervais Show, Fantasy MLB 411, Meet the Press, French Maid TV, Barack Obama, and Ask a Ninja.
- tuxuser, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4linux user. not into star trex and love podcast/podcasting. linux users do figure in!
- adml_shake, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Who funds these studies? I'm sure theres more interesting studies that this money could have been thrown at.
And i'm a little skeptical about these results, I have a family full of Mac users and over half of them are trekies but yet when I say "oh I heard that on this podcast I listen too" I might as well have been speaking latin. - somerandomnerd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'm a Star Wars and linux fanboy, and I've been listening to podcasts recently.
I can't work out if that means I'm exactly the kind of person that this survey is talking about, or the complete opposite. But I hate Nike... - bmson, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I only subscribe to video-podcast (vodcast). There are a lot of good video podcasts out there.
But I'm a Macer so... - ngageguy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1lame story
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3thoose damn crazy trekkies and all their modern technology..
- Stwo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1A survey can be manipulated to say whatever the author wants. I think this article is lame....
- futurepastnow, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Put me down for both, as well.
- silkysaul, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I despise Star Trek, don't use a Mac (But love Amber Mac) but I like podcasts
- n00tz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0796366/
Don't be so sure about that...
Not that I'm interested in Trek at all, but you should check your facts first >_^ - BLACKEAGLE, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1damn nerds
- DocBoo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Full speed ahead
- alienpi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The early adoption of technology of the Trekkies along with the ease of use of Mac OSX, result in people that adopt new technology earlier than they would by themselves. I've been an early adopter of technology all my life, and since I've got a Mac I've accelerated my rate of adoption just because stuff is so easy to do.
- Reno582, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Distorted View, The Best Podcast ever, I love Star Trek I use a iPod, I am a statistic
- Jejagua, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0What? You mean to tell me most pod cast listeners aren't little old ladies in retirement homes?
- ehensley, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Is it bad that my spock action figure has his own ipod?
Please tell me that my tax dollars are not being spent on this study? - cheez, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1i cover both those catagories
- chezzplezz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'm wondering if they counted the fact that once you sub a pod-cast,it automatically updates.so there's no need to keep going back to download it anymore.Like my in box,I always find new pod casts on my iTunes app.(except for Rocket-boom!!!!)
- aadsfasdf, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Simple explaination, PC users download audio/mp3/streaming radio/music files not podcasts.
- steveng, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2I'm a Mac User and am subscribed to 27 Podcasts (Most audio). I have to much free time, and am filling the void that G4 left in my life. I do not like Star Trek.
- CBTF, on 10/12/2007, -6/+6So in summary only nerds do the podcast thing? Yup sounds about right.
- wabbitman1, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1THIS JUST IN..WATER IS WET!! These things make me laugh. iTunes is what put podcasting on the map. (for the most part)
- clyde2801, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Sigh. Guilty on all counts.
- teledog, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It's true. Did anybody see the dateline NBC story about child porn and remember the comment that most Internet predators are also Trekkie's? scary
- danielh4824, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This holds true for me (I'm a trekkie and I'm a Mac user) but pretty sure this doesn't hold true for most if not a lot of people who listen to podcast.
- duke, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Straw poll time --
PC - wired4u, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2But im sure everyone here listens to diggnation
- mmm_linux, on 10/12/2007, -5/+4yes, well your crazy.
- meathead, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Digg seems to have a relatively high percentage of Mac users too. I wonder what the stats are?
- Raian, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Also interesting is how the Toronto police found a link between trekkies and pedophilia...
http://www.boingboing.net/2005/04/28/la_times_pedophilia_.html
hmm... - Ramble, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2You deserve to be shot.
