- tdkyo, on 10/12/2007, -19/+265He gets his other millions from his stock options. Not impressed.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -19/+113Don't forget he has his Pixar salary. He has other means of making money via conventions, interviews, etc.
- agentofchange, on 10/12/2007, -3/+84Nothing says "god bless America" more than tax dodging.
- alexonix, on 10/12/2007, -1/+78"under current U.S. tax law, salary income is taxed at a top rate of 35%, whereas capital gains tax, which applies to stock grants, maxes out at 15% for profits derived from long-term capital gains." From wikipedia, obviously being paid in company shares is better...
- 4NDr01D, on 10/12/2007, -3/+79so that's only 65c after taxes ;)
- chrispr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+66Yeah, but I bet he gets all the iTunes he wants.
- tidu, on 10/12/2007, -6/+70Awesome, technically I make more than Steve Jobs at my part-time convenience store job.
- theandrey, on 10/12/2007, -15/+71Never mind. Digg me up.
- StarCrusher, on 10/12/2007, -4/+51yep, one dollar in salary and $400 million in stock options. Hell, I'd pay them $100,000 a year to work there if I could get a couple of million in stock options!
- pixelmixer, on 10/12/2007, -7/+38wait... didnt Gates give us a cheesy MP3 player too?
- Pottersquash, on 10/12/2007, -43/+73indeed why take a salary when you can screw the shareholders directly with illegal stock options
- WiZZLa, on 10/12/2007, -3/+33@4NDr01D : "Gates also gave us how many crappy OS that have ruined countless lives and marriages over the years?"
If any release of Windows ruined your life or marriage, it was weak to begin with...maybe your husband didn't really love you. - flag564, on 10/12/2007, -19/+48Gates gives billions to help the poor and needy around the world.
Jobs gives you a cheesy mp3 player.
Yeah, Jobs is so cool. /s - arthurbarnhouse, on 10/12/2007, -4/+33Technically you don't, unless you get millions of dollars in stock options every year.
I want to see how long it takes for a joke about backdating stocks to occur on this thread. - Xeth, on 10/12/2007, -0/+27Most CEOs make less than $400,000 a year in salaries. It's all about the bonuses and stock options.
- JeffH, on 10/12/2007, -1/+27You guys don't seem to realize that there are hundreds upon hundreds of CEOs that take $1 salaries. When you're the CEO of a huge company, and are going to make a gigantic salary if paid regularly, then this is the best way to go. Get paid via stocks and dodge the potential millions upon millions of dollars of taxes that could be imposed upon your salary.
- Unrefined, on 10/12/2007, -3/+25Steve Jobs probably felt guilty... *dream sequence*
It was lovely outside, children playing happily but he couldn't resist himself. He had to kill a hooker that night, like he'd been doing for the past several weeks. He recalled all the moments where he took out his Ipod and would bash it over the head of asian women because he felt dead inside, so hopelessly lost in his greed. So he said,"I will only take $1 this year cause that's all those whore's lives were worth." As he slowly rode into the night, to release yet another Mac product filled with his raging man juice. - conto1987, on 10/12/2007, -0/+20he could buy an album on allofmp3.com
- newbill123, on 10/12/2007, -4/+22How can Apple continue to skirt around minimum wage laws so blatantly! Steve, Apple owes you at least another $4.15. Or was the $1 what Apple was paying the purported "sweat shop" iPod making laborers in China. C'mon Mr. Jobs, more iPods now! :-)
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+18He filed?
- Camper, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15I'd like to see his tax returns.
- pixelmixer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15That would make a great commercial. The raging man juice part would probably be the selling point.
- superKduper, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14This is a tax-dodge scam. He does this so he pays ZERO in Social Security and Medicare taxes...while you and I make up for it.
- SlashNot, on 10/12/2007, -2/+16@arthurbarnhouse
My point is that this is nothing NEW. For several years now Mr. Jobs has taken the infamous 1 dollar salary, so why is it being made such a big deal? - Mufflegrump, on 10/12/2007, -2/+15@docdoak
What? I agree that the purest form of charity is anonymous, but don't you think you might be taking it a bit too far? For example, I donated a little bit to Child's Play this year. Are you honestly saying that my admission of such completely negates the value of the toys to those kids? I'm not a psychologist or anything, but I'd be willing to venture that those kids don't give a flying ***** who I tell. They're just happy to have some new toys for Christmas. - NathanLoehlein, on 07/27/2009, -8/+21The Apple fanboys would love you. Then they could put up headlines like "Apple CEO Gives Apple $100,000 to Work There" and make everyone think you weren't making any money.
- AlfaWolph, on 10/12/2007, -3/+15*insert apple fanboy praise about how selfless and forward-thinking jobs is without /sarcasm tag*
- Konstantino, on 10/12/2007, -8/+19Didn't he quit Pixar and leave that to Disney? In that case, he wouldn't get a salary from Pixar. Though he does have those Disney stock options.
- Ironman11, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11Aukxsona, next time, try reading the article. If you did, you would see that Jobs isn't "doing it for free," because he got Apple stock worth over $840 million.
- anglachel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10minimum wage laws affect hourly workers, i.e. those making a WAGE, those getting paid a sallarie can get paid next to nothing...
- trollenlord, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11Greater is that this ties his final compensation for services rendered to the Apple. If Apple sinks his options are worth nothing. If Apple does reall well so does he. That's how all CEOs should get paid. (Unless if it's a major crisis time like in Sun or some other major sinking ship.. Then you'll have to tune the meters a bit.)
- Quix, on 10/12/2007, -7/+17$1 salary??? Flag564 makes $4 more than that - every hour he works!
Flag564 > Steve Jobs. It's axiomatic. - alex32211, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10Thats $1 more than me
- Jankos, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11Did you even read the thing? He got 848.4Million Dollars worth of stocks.
He's definitely not in it for the money... - noahhoward, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10"Did you even read the thing? He got 848.4Million Dollars worth of stocks.
He's definitely not in it for the money..."
And what happens if Apple goes down the drain? Working for stock alone shows that you have dedication to the company you are with and you will do everything you can to ensure it success. - SoxFanNH, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Nah this is why the Apple section is useless, posting dumb crap like this alllll the time.
- Nogger, on 10/12/2007, -5/+12True, he gets millions from stock options. But the vast majority of CEOs say "I am so rich my familiy will not have to work for generations to come. I make filthy millions in stock options, but I sure won't miss the oportunity to grab another ***** of money in salary."
- Rice, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7That story made my day.
- abrooks, on 10/12/2007, -0/+749th according to the Forbes 2006 list. Estimated net worth of 4.9 billion.
- xAXISx, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Oh my goodness, according to his wikipedia article his net worth is $4.9 billion USD. HE MUST BE 4.9 BILLION YEARS OLD.
I, for one, welcome our infinitly living apple overlords. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+10"Gates gives billions to help the poor and needy around the world.
Jobs gives you a cheesy mp3 player.
Yeah, Jobs is so cool. /s"
I have nothing against Gates, He is a brilliant philantropist, sadly I can't give the same critical praise over his Operating Systems. - flag564, on 10/12/2007, -7/+13"Still, how cool is that. He knows he doesn't need any more money so it makes his salary one dollar."
Thats some sad spin, fankid.
Sad indeed. - treelovinhippie, on 10/12/2007, -5/+11A $1 salary is just a publicity stunt... as the majority of the public are morons and will have the same thoughts as the first comment.
But it works. - arthurbarnhouse, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Though that is the implied purpose of them, it's effect is quite the opposite. Tell a CEO they'll be rewarded on a quarterly basis, they'll get good short-term results, rake in money, then split. The days of salaries were much better for long-term company goals, except for cases of substantial vested interest (Steve Jobs, or the Fords).
- killerofkiller, on 10/12/2007, -4/+9the 2 google guys have been doing this for years
- pixelmixer, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6well, its not suprising... the google CEO's are paid the same 1$ salary... its common practice is large corps like that.
- noseeme, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Actually, no. It's not.
- bels, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I wonder if he gets a check for $1.00
- xxdesmus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Good for Jobs. Lets ignore the other millions he gets from Pixar and Disney. (and the other millions he makes in illegal stock options)
- stoppedcode12, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5The key word here is "again". Steve Jobs was the first CEO to take the $1 salary. Keep this in mind people, this was when altavista was the most popular search engine in the world. Google, Yahoo, and others were followers.
