- wowmacnut, on 01/25/2008, -7/+198I lost $5 on the way to work this morning ... fell out of my pocket on the bus. :(
- inactive, on 01/25/2008, -15/+174Correction: Steve Jobs hasn't lost a dime. Steve Jobs will only lose money if he sells his stock tomorrow. I have shares of Apple and I'm holding onto them, even though they've gone down in value. Why? I know the stock will rise up again once. You never sell your stock when the company you own hasn't done anything to merit a plunge in price. It's the recession, stupid.
Apple has reinforced their position in the market. They've got 2 years of subscription money coming in from 4 million sales of iPhones. The SDK release will generate more money from software sales. The 3G phone later in the year will ensure Apple's entry into Japan and possibly Canada, Italy and Spain. They're negotiating contracts in China, the biggest cell phone market. They've got a lock on the MP3 market. Sales of Macs are up by 44 percent, compared to 30 percent in the PC market. Leopard was a hit with 5 million sales. Apple just experienced their biggest quarter in history.
So you would have to be bat ***** crazy to sell your stock right now. - buddhistMonkey, on 01/25/2008, -2/+89As luck would have it, I FOUND $5 on the bus this morning. I decided to help a brother out, so I mailed it to Steve Jobs.
- EustaceTilley, on 01/25/2008, -2/+86"This is just one of the reasons I have chosen not to own 5.4 million shares of Apple stock"
I actually laughed out loud, Dugg - battletops, on 01/25/2008, -3/+79Must be tough for somebody with a $1 salary.
- projjalc, on 01/25/2008, -1/+48Wow, that puts this whole article in perspective.
- inactive, on 01/25/2008, -0/+34Tough break man
- bosssmiley, on 01/25/2008, -0/+33In case you didn't notice, there's been a crash in the stock markets this week. This, quite naturally, puts a dent in the value of share holdings.
"Rich man loses money during stock market slump." - Not really news, is it? More a truism. - davesawyer, on 01/25/2008, -3/+29Buried as the title is somewhat inaccurate. I have to agree with clak above that Jobs hasn't lost any money at this point.
- rancemo, on 01/25/2008, -2/+28Just a few years ago Apple's stock was worth less than $20 per share. Steve hasn't lost *****!
- hackntossh, on 08/27/2008, -0/+20I would love to be in the position to lose $219 million and still be a billionaire.
But that's just me... - KarlH, on 01/25/2008, -1/+17Wow! That's 550 trillion Zimbabwe dollars. 551 ... 552 ... 553 ...
- ventralnet, on 01/25/2008, -2/+18There is nothing noble about him taking a $1 salary. I'd love it if i only had to pay taxes on a 1 dollar income per year and just was paid in stock options
- hockey, on 01/25/2008, -7/+22Steve Jobs is black?
- reyfin, on 01/25/2008, -0/+14But does it fit in a manila enveloped?
- agimat, on 01/25/2008, -0/+14It just means that you pay higher taxes on your salary than he does.
- jlebrech, on 01/25/2008, -3/+17Just means apple is a good buy. Quick profit for when the 3G iphone is released.
- Wetzilla, on 01/25/2008, -2/+15Actually, Apple gets a certain amount of the subscription money from the iPhones, so yes, Apple does have 2 years of subscription money coming in.
- rodrigo74, on 01/25/2008, -2/+13I would agree until the latest MacWorld, but now that Apple turned their AppleTV on a true set-top box (no computer required) and with rentals in it, it looks much more competitive.
- Kelmon, on 01/25/2008, -1/+12Technically, I don't think he loses money even if he sells the shares after they have decreased in value since he didn't pay for them in the first place. On the contrary he makes money and a ***** of it but just not as much as last week.
Regardless, I entirely agree with the sentiment of your comment - shares go down as well as up and investors really ought to be in for the long haul otherwise its not much of an investment. - kidcodea, on 01/25/2008, -2/+13could have fooled me
- inactive, on 01/25/2008, -2/+12Oops, meant to say "MP3 player" market. And yes, iPods play MP3s and AAC. And I forgot to mention the revive of AppleTV. That's another thing they will get revenue from.
- BristolMyLove, on 12/21/2008, -4/+14Of course it does. Your statement is ignorant.
- Po0py, on 01/25/2008, -2/+12I'm just glad that I'm not the only person who has chosen not to own $5.4 million in apple stock.
- Heidenreich12, on 01/25/2008, -3/+12everyone owns an iPod (ok... not everyone), but if you go to a gym for example, almost every single person there with a MP3 player will have an iPod over anything else..... how can they "suck balls"?
- digjam, on 01/25/2008, -2/+11I found a $5 on the bus and a $5 in a "Manila" envelope addressed to Jobs..and I kept it for myself :D
- hockey, on 01/25/2008, -0/+9Agreed. All that $1 salary means is this man pays zero income taxes. So a man who's a multi billionaire pays zero taxes but you and have have to fork over 30% of our meager wages in comparison.
- thegreyfox, on 01/25/2008, -6/+14Steve i feel your pain. Mostly because i own Apple shares.
- theutopian, on 01/25/2008, -0/+8Semantics... MP3's have become the generic name for digital music.
- Wetzilla, on 01/25/2008, -0/+8Of course he cares about losing 219 million dollars. Sure, he may be valued at around 5.5 billion, but anyone who doesn't care about losing over 200 million is never going to get that rich in the first place. Thats about 1/20th of his net worth. Thats a pretty big drop in a week.
- tape250, on 01/25/2008, -0/+8Yeah, but taxes on long term capital gains can go as low as 5%, whereas if he took cash instead of tax, he'd be paying 35% taxes. All he's doing by taking a $1 salary and millions in stock is keeping a pretty little image that he's not greedy while behind the scenes he's just evading paying more in taxes and earning just as much if not more than the next CEO.
- inactive, on 01/25/2008, -1/+8Yes, because Apple stock is the ONLY stock falling right now. The rest are up, up, up, right?!
- ChrisViz, on 01/25/2008, -1/+8What a stupid and misleading story. Stock prices go up and down every day. I would of LOVED to have purchased Apple stock a few years ago, because I would of got a massive return.
- unjustend, on 01/25/2008, -0/+7That's what he just said.....
- aaronm67, on 01/25/2008, -0/+7...Steve Jobs was the highest paid CEO in 2007, earning $646 million.

There is absolutely nothing noble about him taking a $1 salary, it is entirely for show and tax purposes. - Philbert, on 01/25/2008, -0/+7He does wear a lot of it from what I've seen.
- inactive, on 01/25/2008, -0/+6MOST multibillionaires lost money in the last couple weeks, since the entire market is down. Nothing unique about Apple or Jobs.
- extraspecial, on 01/25/2008, -0/+6Don't forget the Disney stock...
- OriginalLucid1, on 01/25/2008, -2/+8I agreed with everything you said 'till you got to the recession part. Just because politicians and talking head pundits are saying there is a recession doesn't make it so. This is an election year remember.
- kungfoolou, on 01/25/2008, -1/+6Ladies and Gentlemen... OK gentlemen,
I present to you the Anti-Apple fanboy. Newton's 3rd law applied to fanboydom, I guess. For every silly Apple fanboy who waits for hours to buy something that is overpriced by $200, there is another who refuse to think anything Apple does is good. - hockey, on 01/25/2008, -0/+5I bet you are also one of those people who tries software before they buy it with the oh so noble intention of paying for it later if you like it aren't you?
- Angostura, on 01/25/2008, -1/+6Hear that whooshing noise above you?
- tateswayz91, on 01/25/2008, -2/+7Oh?
http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/ - zezerik, on 01/25/2008, -1/+6Bill's cash is always diminishing because he donates billions to charity... Unlike Jobs who only donates to the Black Turtleneck Elitist ***** foundation.
- LiquidIse, on 01/25/2008, -1/+6I would suspect that it was infact not your choice to not own 5.4 million shares of apple...
- NinjaBoy, on 01/25/2008, -0/+5I was just thinking about how my mom made five bucks by "helping some collage kid" this day several years ago..........DAD?
- calon9, on 01/25/2008, -1/+6I lost my virginity on this day many decades ago, and it cost about five bucks.
- digjam, on 01/26/2008, -0/+4It was so "light" I dint bother to open and see it....let me check........
- mdude85, on 01/25/2008, -0/+4Was there a Macbook Air in the manila envelope too?
- 2shae, on 01/25/2008, -2/+6"Fararri's are sooo overpriced. there are a ***** of great cars out there that are just as good."
Some people just don't understand it. People are not only looking at price when they buy products. They often don't make logical choices. You should actually be impressed by Apple instead of bashing them for being able to sell all there stuff even though they are above averaged priced (premium priced) -
