/myself included =[ - judicar, on 08/05/2008, -1/+94Took almost 4 hours to leak this, someone's being lazy.
- smarty927, on 08/05/2008, -34/+114"not up to Apple's standards" I guess that means they have to charge $199 instead of $99. No?
- wellstd1, on 08/05/2008, -16/+95Your mom's not up to Apple's standards.
- inactive, on 08/05/2008, -4/+52hey buddy don't be so down...
- GaryChalmers, on 08/05/2008, -8/+48Maybe Apple should leave the net stuff to Google.
- Dylson, on 08/05/2008, -2/+35He's not your buddy, man.
- nickbr00tality, on 08/05/2008, -1/+33he's not a man, guy.
kidding. kidding. but he is a gentleman. according to his profile. - supermanred, on 08/05/2008, -13/+35MobileMe is much better than .mac was. I like the syncing between my phone and my Mac, pretty cool and almost instant. I like the push email too, as I get my emails instantly now on my phone... but they really need to upsize the idisk allotment.
I would really like it if they would also include in mobileme the syncing (backing up) of iWeb web sites and allow for multiple iWeb sites. - jklyon, on 08/05/2008, -15/+35At least we know Apple knows they messed up. It's better knowing that they know, so now they can fix it. Win for the consumer!
- digiguy, on 08/05/2008, -3/+23I don't give a *****, companies should stop giving announced dates on products. That's the problem. If the damn thing is ready, sell it. Sony gives approximate dates and Dell doesn't give dates. If not ready, don't give dates. The Mac is shipping in September, then 5 days later, it's shipping in October. Mobileme is shipping July 11. Sorry, but we are having issues. Bla Bla Bla. What ever happened when people were surprised on Tuesday?
- 6minuteabs, on 08/05/2008, -0/+16Judging by itunes for windows performance, it's definitely MobileMe's fault.
- spectecjr, on 08/05/2008, -11/+23What I'd like to know is why I turned on my machine one day to discover this automatically installed, without any notice as to why. I certainly don't own an iPhone, and I certainly didn't install it myself. I guess it came stealth-bundled with iTunes.
Thanks Apple! Guess you didn't learn after the whole Safari debacle. - amsoell, on 04/20/2009, -2/+11I'm not sure why you got dugg down for that comment. I'm completely sold on the "Apple plan" and it's for that exact reason. I spent the first ten years of my professional career and the eight years of high school / college before that tinkering with Windows / Linux. Now that I have a career and my time is worth something, I'll gladly pay a premium for a hardware setup that works "right out of the box," whether that means computer, phone, or mobile application suite.
- newbill123, on 08/05/2008, -1/+10Well, they do have to confirm and paraphrase the document. If you want to keep your source anonymous, you don't quote an internal or NDA covered document from Apple directly since they have been known to plant things in different versions to tip off who a leak might be. No idea if such protections were built into this communication though.
- edstate, on 08/05/2008, -0/+8Agreed. Hate the name though.
- blorc, on 08/05/2008, -2/+10What's stopping you from making multiple sites? Or do you mean forwarding more than one domain? You can make several sites within iWeb.
But regarding the topic, I agree. MobileMe is much better than .Mac, and aside from the service outages and obvious problems with release, it's an excellent service, and I'm sure it will continue to improve over time, especially with having someone like Cue reporting directly to Jobs. - dharcha1, on 08/05/2008, -5/+13ie: Windows Me
- ravage86, on 08/05/2008, -0/+7Nice, you got the reference. +1 to you
- MacParrot, on 08/05/2008, -0/+7You can make multiple site with iWeb but they are all together within the same hierarchy unless you employ some trickery or third-party software. This won't change the way MobileMe/dotmac deals with those sites however.
Third-party software does this for you, but you can easily do it yourself if you know where to look. Go to (username)->Library->Application Support->iWeb and you'll find a file called "DOMAIN". This file contains all the information for iWeb sites. Create multiple folders (call them the name of each site for example) and drop the DOMAIN file into the one required. Restart iWeb and a new DOMAIN file will be created. Do this for as many sites as you want. Create an alias for each DOMAIN file and keep it on your desktop for each site you want to make. When you want to work on a particular site, double-click the alias for that site from your desktop. Easy as that (tongue firmly in cheek).
I wrote a series of articles on doing more with iWeb. Here's the link to the first one:
http://mymac.com/showarticle.php?id=3035
Click on my name to find links to the others.
It's also condensed quite well in Chris Seibold's book "Big Book of Apple Hacks" under hack 81
Sorry for the blogspam but I hope those looking for info on iWeb will find it useful - farmerbb, on 08/05/2008, -6/+13"It was a mistake to launch MobileMe at the same time as iPhone 3G, iPhone 2.0 software and the App Store"
Well duh, of course it was a mistake. Launching all those services right at once was just doomed to be a failure. Apple is good, but are they really *that* good to launch four big services all on the same day? I don't think anyone could have pulled it off successfully. - phatphil, on 08/05/2008, -2/+8Actually, it doesn't push.
Apple has removed all their claims of push email, etc. from advertising and their site. Now it just syncs regularly. =/ - robbob, on 08/05/2008, -2/+8but .Mac has been out for years.
- inactive, on 08/05/2008, -13/+18wake up
this is Apple spin - Macskeeball, on 08/05/2008, -1/+6Spectecjr never said he used OS X. There's Mobile Me for Windows as well.
- wukillabee, on 08/05/2008, -5/+9***** you for not using adblock plus
- wastern, on 08/05/2008, -2/+6you got an extra month added several weeks back
- 6minuteabs, on 08/05/2008, -5/+9You're the dumbass who paid in the first place. ***** like this is supposed to be free nowadays.
- inactive, on 08/05/2008, -0/+4They should just make it free. Everyone likes push email. The storage thing is meh.
- protodon, on 08/05/2008, -0/+4I though I was alone there. When I hear it all I can think is Supersize Me or Super High Me. They could've gone with some one word noun like cumulus, cirrus, nimbus.... they're ***** names. pick one, they can't all be trademarked.
- Thoth49, on 08/05/2008, -0/+4This guy's got a right to be angry if he seriously lost emails. I mean it's not like it's a free account.
- luminousnerd, on 08/05/2008, -1/+5No you fool, Apple leaked this on purpose. The apology was meant to be public.
- digginamish, on 08/05/2008, -0/+3The real lesson here is to never put "ME" into a product name unless you are trying to make it into the failure hall of fame.
- nakile, on 08/05/2008, -0/+3I don't know why Galaxylander is being dugg down. He's right.
- BrendanSheehan, on 08/05/2008, -0/+3Yeah, cause that iTunes internet service stuff didn't work out for them.
/s - drmobutu, on 08/05/2008, -0/+3It's not up to my standards for a $99/year service, either.
- znicket, on 08/05/2008, -5/+8I do appreciate it when companies admit to their faults and try to rectify their mistakes. MobileMe was basically a matter of lack of resources to finish a polished product and Apple has learned from it. They have reorganized, fixed most of the problems and there is no reason to keep bitching about it.
- Sushubh, on 08/05/2008, -3/+6mobileme thing is bundled with itunes. you update itunes, you get the mobileme icon in control panel.
- removesstains, on 08/05/2008, -4/+7Its totally up to Apple's Standards. I lost 2 weeks worth of emails and they didn't give me *****. It reminded me of when my ipod screen cracked and they tell me its not covers under apple care. Or when my stupid button less mouse broke and 1 of those arrogant ***** at the Apple store made me answer a bunch of stupid questions and when i was done. He tells me, "oh you'll have to come back in a hour to have a technician look at it" Mother *****. Their OS is flipping amazing but their customer service runs like Vista.
- kelly, on 08/05/2008, -0/+3More importantly, those DOMAIN files don't need to reside in your library folder. They can be... well, anywhere.
- tobsterius, on 08/05/2008, -0/+3I can't speak for everyone, obviously... OS 2.0 on my 3G was fine for me... didn't have that any problems with the core apps (3rd party apps are a different story). 2.0.1 is also working fine for me.
- _skin_, on 08/05/2008, -0/+3The first one hundred Apple || computers.
- FredFredrickson, on 08/05/2008, -2/+5Apple is still a small company that isn't ready for the big time yet.
- Kyan, on 08/05/2008, -0/+3Yeah, I still wish they could have found something a bit less tacky. MobileMe really does sound like its for toddlers.
Skymail or something like that would have been ok-er (not really better but just more ok).
They should have left MobileMe to Fisher Price. - jordan314, on 08/05/2008, -0/+3I would totally use MobileMe if push didn't kill the iPhone battery so quickly. I have yahoo mail which supports push, but it's not worth it to me to have it on because I'd rather have a working phone. I just don't need my email that quickly.
- mogebier, on 08/05/2008, -0/+2He is just mad because they couldn't figure out a way to charge more for it, and for updates, and add-ons.
- digitaldivinci, on 08/05/2008, -0/+2When you have to stretch it just isn't worth it.
In before: ***** you; two of my friend's died while stretching. - QuadSix50, on 08/05/2008, -2/+4The moment I saw the new logo for MobileMe, I knew it was doomed to have problems. That "me" part looks just a bit too much like this particular "Me":
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Windows_Me_logo ... - leeg, on 08/05/2008, -2/+4Take a pill. You had .Mac installed as part of OSX. They just changed the name. Buried for making a mountain out of a mole hill.
- skeletorcares, on 08/05/2008, -0/+2idiot.
