- vandy, on 10/27/2007, -14/+351I'll just download Leopard, open up Time Machine, go back a year and submit that application I had. Boom! free iPhone.
- Quix, on 10/27/2007, -17/+263In a bold countermove, Steve Ballmer announces that all Microsoft employees will receive free Zunes. Employees immediately ransack the Redmond campus in rage.
- kiheimac, on 10/27/2007, -6/+14611 months. Damn.
- nusuni, on 10/27/2007, -8/+146Wonder how many will pop up on ebay from employees who hate AT&T?
- SamMiller0, on 10/27/2007, -6/+128just call him Oprah
- pwallroth, on 10/27/2007, -22/+117Steve Jobs later added... "Oh did I say iPhones? I meant Pink Slips. Yes every employee will be receiving a Pink Slip in July... peasants."
- hemenot, on 10/27/2007, -6/+91I'll admit it.. I'm a little bit jealous. I'm not getting an iPhone, but if I was offered one for free I'd sure as hell take it and learn to like it.
- bbrosemer, on 10/27/2007, -12/+95Why did I apply this summer to work there and not last... :(
- jbundy, on 10/27/2007, -24/+103They're not free. They're going to cost every Apple employee $175 cancellation
- moduc, on 10/11/2007, -3/+46In a bolder move, Bill Gate announces that all Microsoft employees will receive free iPhone.
- lordtyros, on 10/11/2007, -10/+46Not really. Oprah gives random nice and deserving people cool ***** sometimes. Steve Jobs just returns to his employees some of the fruits of their labor. I'm sure Apple employees would much rather have a raise than an iPhone.
Cuz you know what you can do with a raise? Buy an iPhone. - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -9/+43You have a job? So buy it.
- thebenchase, on 10/11/2007, -7/+38In other news, angry ass hydroplane spouts unfounded generalization.
- macspec, on 10/11/2007, -1/+31There are a few details here and there... Retail Store employees ARE included. There is no consideration for who your carrier is right now. Employees are required to sign an agreement that they will not sell the phone for two years after receiving the unit.
- flipmeat, on 10/11/2007, -9/+39Counting down to the headline "Jobs has no confidence in iPhone, dumps 17,000 on hapless employees".
- jocamero, on 10/11/2007, -2/+30Thumb's up for adding 'Boom!'
- willgonz, on 10/11/2007, -2/+28I wonder if the store employees get them too or just corporate?
- trer, on 10/11/2007, -5/+29But Apple is not paying for the montly usage...clever ploy by Apple to get ATT more subscribers
- superkendall, on 10/11/2007, -2/+26Regarding the current comment system (a sidenote I know) - please let us see subcomments with something like five diggs or more. As you can see from this thread, people are reluctant to post replies directly to comments, since they know they will be hidden. So the commenting situation is actually flatter now than it was before Digg changed the comment system!
Showing us higher rated comments directly without opening the comments would mean people would resume direct replies, and then start making the sub-sub-replies make sense as well. - zioxide, on 10/11/2007, -2/+22And now there's 20,000 people who are walking advertisements for the iPhone every time they take it out.
- totallyAMAZING, on 10/11/2007, -2/+22Why not? They only cost Apple $300 each.
- superkendall, on 10/11/2007, -14/+32This makes a huge amount of sense - why wouldn't you want every person in your company to understand what it was like to actually use a major product you build, if nothing else to help come up with great enhancements!
This really shows the level of commitment Apple has to the iPhone as a platform. - imikedaman, on 10/11/2007, -1/+15Not exactly free, who plans on paying the $60/month for service in addition to the remaining portion of the contract on their current phones?
- flashboy131, on 10/11/2007, -11/+23I just need to step away from the internet for the next few weeks I guess.
- rasterbator, on 10/11/2007, -0/+11It also is like having walking billboards for your product in the tech world, at events, conferences, etc.
- JoeLeo, on 10/11/2007, -0/+11Apple has more than 20,000 employees (not 17,000). Only US employees get the phone.
- Nougat, on 10/11/2007, -6/+17Or just pop up on eBay because they'll be able to sell em for more than retail when there's a shortage?
- dancerobots, on 10/11/2007, -6/+15Apple has 17,787 full-time employees.
- rasterbator, on 10/11/2007, -0/+9Ars Technica reported that Retail employees also get a phone if with Apple for 1+ years of service.
- turpenine, on 10/11/2007, -0/+9even on tmobile you don't get the cheaper data plans for iphone and all the network features. Its worthless to have unless you are on at&t
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -1/+9Employee: When do we get to see our fancy new iPhones?
Jobs: When you get your fancy new jobs. - freehunter, on 10/11/2007, -3/+11Now, that's racist. It is going to be a darker color, but was made this way naturally, and there is nothing wrong with that. It performs just as well, if not better, than the white colored iPods.
- superkendall, on 10/11/2007, -0/+8Come on, employees would not sit still for a phone instead of a raise (nor did he say that was the case). Why pee in someones lemonaide?
- dolby, on 10/11/2007, -1/+9Kind of like when Oprah gave everyone a free car but didn't pay taxes on the car and forgot something called insurance.
- s0ny, on 10/11/2007, -4/+11Well goodbye then...you wont be missed!
- zioxide, on 10/11/2007, -3/+10Nah.. every one of these employees is going to be a walking advertisement for Apple every time they take out their iPhone to use it. And most of their employees are already making $75,000+ a year, so a $600 phone on top of that is not going to make a difference at all.
- nreynolds, on 10/11/2007, -1/+7you won't be able to activate the phone without signing up for AT&T. And it probably would never work on another network until it's official because of all the extra features.
- thatsmyaibo, on 10/11/2007, -2/+8Random nice and deserving? Those women in the audience that get cars and such are just housewives that don't do anything. Hardly deserving.
- jake8689, on 10/11/2007, -5/+11or you could ask how many employees apple has
- Lumiras, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6Supporting Bill Gates.....while this isn't even that accurate because he's not involved with day-to-day operations at MS anymore...your comment is still stupid. Bill Gates is one of the most giving and prolific philanthropists the world has ever seen, while Steve Jobs charges people $1500 for a basic laptop and then buys another truckload of turtlenecks with the profits
- KSUdesigner, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5A reborn computer user? What did you do, turn Amish for a while?
- locojones, on 10/11/2007, -2/+7Well Apple has to fluff up their "sales" numbers somehow.
- crackedplastic, on 10/11/2007, -1/+6You must have failed Accounting 101 at your local community college.
- DramaticIrony, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5not to use this as an oppoetunity to sell things online... but i have a treo you could buy lol
- digggggggggg, on 10/11/2007, -2/+7Nevertheless, the Zune will continue to be the butt of all jokes, even if it is for no good reason.
- Bamborzled, on 10/11/2007, -4/+9But giving them something worth $300 for one time is much more affordable than giving them a raise.
- pwallroth, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4hahah
- lordtyros, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5That's disturbingly pathetic. ***** working on Christmas Eve.
- mhuggins, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4WHAT A BITCH!
- MrTheKing, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4That's like telling a BMW owner that he's losing out because he can't choose from the wide variety of AC/Delco parts.
