- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -6/+40i'll start caring when Star Trek: The Next Generation is added, and disappears
- danakin, on 10/12/2007, -1/+33You're in the wrong place buddy.
- sockpuppets, on 10/12/2007, -0/+31It's dead, Jim.
- dDuk, on 10/12/2007, -2/+32“Due to technical reasons, Star Trek and Star Trek: Enterprise are temporarily unavailable from the iTunes Store. We will announce any developments as they happen.”
Mystery over. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+31See, it's very simple. People that download a great deal of stuff are typically nerds. Nerds like Star Trek. So, in the interest of stopping you from exceeding your Comcast bandwidth limits, they've taken the videos down.
It's for your own good really. - wonderchemist, on 10/12/2007, -0/+28KHHHAAANNNNN!!!

"Mystery Over!"
But...
"Mystery Over!" - adml_shake, on 10/12/2007, -1/+19I think you have us confused with the Star Wars geeks. The Star Trek geeks had to get out of their parents basement, get higher paying jobs to pay for the insanely expensive DVD's. Where as the Star Wars fans can stay in their parents basement and pick up their SW's DVD's at 15 bucks a pop.
- Pokerface17123, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14Sir I protest I am not a merry Man
- usefulidiot, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13Looks like they've forgotten the 9th rule of acquisition: Opportunity plus instinct equals profit.
- ShadySpace, on 10/12/2007, -3/+15Well, the Federation IS a largely communist society.
- actorboy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13Not as spontaneous as my little block button.
- Zippo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11KHAAAAAN! KHAAAAAAAAAAAN!!!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+14The federation is NOT communist. You're confusing socialism with communism.

Uh, there are a couple of mistakes in what you wrote. First off, 16mm transfers pretty well to HD. I just shot several thousand feet of 16mm that's being cut into a project in 720p and it looks fine. There's 8mm footage and 35mm footage in the same project. The 8mm obviously has less resolution than the HD footage, but still adds color. These are old Kodachrome dual-8 movies from the early 60's that document an area and they work. The difference between the 16mm and the 35mm footage is pretty minimal, though. In a 4K scan you could see a lot more difference, but both film gauges have more information on them than HD can resolve, so the net effect is that they pretty much look the same. If I was shooting grainy low-light footage the grain would be bigger in the 16mm transfers, but I used film for daylight exteriors on this project, so there's no much visible grain.
The other mistake is that Star Trek was not originally shot in 16mm. It was shot in 35mm on old Mitchell BNCR cameras. There were release prints made on 16mm stock, but that was not the acquisition format.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0060028/technical - GeneralFailure0, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10I was gonna say buying the DVD's was a better legal alternative anyway, but then I remembered that the prices for the Star Trek DVD's are absolutely ridiculous.
- GeekedAtBirth, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11Maybe the pirates stole them!
- ShadySpace, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9That or the ***** Vorta. Deceitful, genetically engineered bastards....
- MrDo, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10Girls are overrated.
- JasonCox, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7I'd say it was the Romulans or Section 31...
- Fawkes, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6bummer for the fans of those two, but for all you Voyager fans Spike is showing 2 episodes a night along with TNG. set your dvr's to 'record'
- supermanred, on 10/12/2007, -5/+11Let's ask Wil Wheaton! He's here on Digg somewhere... Waiting for his comment. He surely must know!!
- aquax, on 10/12/2007, -5/+11All 8 Voyager fans will rejoice.
- actorboy, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9Hahaha! Nerds can't get girls! Priceless! Now do your bit about how white people dance funny. I bet you have a great Cosby impression too.
- ryannerd, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7These are not the Nerds you are looking for. Move along...
- farrellj, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5"Those dirty sons, they killed my bastard!" - J. T. Kirk
ttyl - thatrez, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6It's like the WANT you to pirate it online using BitTorrent rather then using the legal alternatives, they just remove the legal alternatives and leave you with no choice.
- monsterdog, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Trek vanishes from iTunes, Universe implodes twenty minutes later from fanboy wangst.
- JAG731, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Actually, I checked last night and found TOS and ENT weren't on XBL. I wonder what the 'technical difficulties' are that involved both iTunes and Xbox Live.
- Konrad9, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4In other news, the movies are still there.
Bizarre. - Szandor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4It's Bentonville, not Fayetteville.
And I don't understand your comment. - dukrous, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6It wasn't in an HD format anyways, so hopefully when it comes back it will be in HD. The lack of HD content is what keeps me from buying an Apple TV.
- actorboy, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7Not as much as I hate "anyways" instead of "anyway", informally acceptable or not. But hey, it's just my pet peeve, right up there with towards instead of toward and besides instead of beside. Maybe it's just me. I'm going back to rubbing one out to a picture of Merriam Webster now.
- quoigonfishin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3They're not gone. They're cloaked.
- JAG731, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Make that 9. =o)
- pidge, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Oh well. I still haven't seen the series final to ST: Enterprise.
- Phoenixfury, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I recall when Heroe's first came out that the first episode Gennisis disappeared for a few weeks, then it came back. I have a feeling it's just as Startrek.com says, likely a technical problem. Of course the technical problem could be anything.. I'd put my money on it being that Tribbles got into the server that contained those classic Star Trek episodes.
- Shadow503, on 10/12/2007, -5/+8Edit, hit the wrong reply button. Dig me down!
- Locke2053, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I am a serious Trek fan. I just finished watching three hours of TNG on DVD. But I did not know these were available on iTunes. Perhaps they did this just for the headlines so that more people would find out Trek is available on iTunes? Of course, there is no way I would pay real money for the crap video quality iTunes sells. I want 1080p and I want it NOW, Mr. Laforge!
- Shadow503, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4I'm getting critized for geekiness on a tech news site. o.O
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I used to work at a grocery store. MANY years ago. however--
If someone came up to me to ask why they no longer sold Pineapples, I'd have to laugh at them.
So, in turn---what makes you think Wil knows about:
1. A show he wasn't in
2. A franchise he hasn't worked for in years
3. Apple's and Paramount's internal information - ricodued, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3TRAGEDY STRIKES!
- lilricky, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Communism = http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Communism
Socialism = http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Socialism
Hence, Star Trek is a communistic society, damn, I feel white and nerdy.... - panique, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Actually, my nightly Star Trek parties back in the mid-80's (which, by the way is the sole reason I purchased my first television) netted me two girlfriends.
- DEIx15x8, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Are they still on Xbox Live?
- deadbaby, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3SPOILER WARNING!
There's some Vulcan boobs and some other stuff happens, The End. - Phoenixfury, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Actually I bought Genesis when it was returned to the ITS, it has the controversial scene you speak of right down to the brand name on the garbage disposal. That scene definitely was not removed or edited.
- thatrez, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1fatty acids?
