- myusrnm, on 01/17/2008, -0/+1first of, comparing by screen size would put the sony sz as the direct competitor to the air, not the tz. People prefer certain sizes of screen area. The sony tz is smaller (in widthxlength) and therefore it's more portable and has such a screen size. Anyways, there's one thing these stupid people forgot to mention. You can take out your battery on the tz, and it's also ***** configurable. Choose what you want out of the smogasboard. For the price of the high end air (3100) you get a much better sony sz.
Here's the feature list for a Sony SZ at 3080 (couldn't get it costing 3100)
* Intel Core 2 Duo Processor T7700 (2.40GHz), 0.6 Ghz More!
* Microsoft Windows Vista Business, we're not discussing os preference, but still, macbook air wins here. It can do both.
* 4 GB DDR-SDRAM (DDR2-667, 2 GBx2), double the macbook
* 200 GB Hard Disk Drive [7200 RPM], 200 gb at 7200! the macbook can't do that (64 ssd is nothing, ssd isn't worth it till it's cheaper and holds more)
* SuperMulti DVD±R DL / DVD±RW / DVD-RAM Drive, makes the sony much better. i couldn't live without an optical drive.
* 13.3" WXGA, equal
* MOTION EYE Camera, probably equal
* Wireless LAN (802.11abgn), probably the same on both
* Wireless Wide Area Network, access the internet from anywhere.
* Trusted Platform Module / Biometric Fingerprint Sensor, since security is key
* Keyboard (Black) I can change the color of the keyboard.
Comparing Battery, Sony SZ gets 6 hrs according to Cnet, which beats macbook's five. And Batteries are hot swappable!
Weight. Here the Macbook wins. 3.7 vs 3.0. Not that much, but it's still significant to some.
Height. Sony has 0.9" from what I can find. Etiher that or 1.5" internets are unclear on this. 0.8" on the macbook at max from what I hear. 0.7 inch difference.
Would you rather have better preformance or better looks?
