http://developer.apple.com/ - wontstoptalking, on 06/22/2008, -5/+75I'm STILL waiting to be able to submit a story titled "Snow in June?"
(or whatever month it is rumored to come out) - limezor2, on 06/22/2008, -35/+82So wait...Snow Leopard looking exactly like Leopard is such an improvement, but Windows 7 looking like Vista is bad.
Oh wait I forgot this was Digg.
YAY APPLE! - fallore, on 06/22/2008, -6/+42i came expecting animals
i left disappointed - kajoob, on 06/22/2008, -2/+32Why not just link to the actual site:
http://www.apfeltalk.de/forum/snow-leopard-entwick ... - Virgule, on 06/22/2008, -3/+31Screenshots? Where are they? Only one shown and its Safari 4.0 Dev not even Snow Leopard.
Buried as ***** inaccurate >:( - mpeters13, on 06/22/2008, -2/+28Remind me who complained about Windows 7 looking the same again? Personally, I like the Vista UI. I think Microsoft is going in the right direction with the interface changes. I also just happen to like OS X more. In your defense, this article was lame. I got excited for some actual UI changes, not a screenshot of safari 4 and a new menu option.
- cerealjynx, on 06/22/2008, -8/+30hahah, Apfeltalk
- viksmaester, on 06/22/2008, -3/+23C'mon people its in Safari 4. I can see this option on my (normal) Leopard running Safari 4 developer preview.
- Ex3poo, on 06/22/2008, -3/+20Looks........the same.
- freqk, on 06/22/2008, -0/+16Burried for epic lameness.
- aspec, on 06/22/2008, -3/+17Just for that, I'm sure they'll delay it until December. Just for you.
- 4321234, on 06/22/2008, -0/+13I came expecting screenshots.
I left dissapointed. - MtheoryX, on 06/22/2008, -3/+16I have Snow Leopard Client running on a Mini and Server installed on a Mac Pro. If I had known that simple screenshots would be enough for a digg story, I would have posted it myself [or let MrBabyMan steal it, whatevas].
- itsradBrad, on 06/22/2008, -2/+14But A flaming fox is so much cooler than some dumb tourist being eaten by a lion. Thanks, rotten.com.
- noseeme, on 06/22/2008, -1/+12I can't wait to use the new "Drucken" feature!!!
- wonderchemist, on 06/22/2008, -3/+14Which race with that?
- domokunt, on 06/22/2008, -3/+12Because apple never add eye candy to their products
- Lewiji, on 06/22/2008, -1/+9"What? Are you being sarcastic?"
People who can't recognise sarcasm over the internet need their browsing licences revoked by the internets police. - eeg3, on 06/22/2008, -0/+8From using the browsers, Firefox seems to run better on my Macbook than Safari. Safari hangs a lot.
- polumrak, on 06/22/2008, -0/+8One can download Safari 4 DP from Apple developer's site and get an exact same screenshot. I am using Safari 4 DP right now.
- supermanred, on 06/22/2008, -1/+9or right click and select open in new tab?
Those who say there is no single-window mode in safari haven't used it for more than a day. - superkendall, on 06/22/2008, -2/+9firefox 3 is an awesome browser. But your use of the exact word "race" is rather unfortunate, in that rendering speed and javascript speed tests show that Safari is faster than Firefox...
Firefox has a number of really nice UI features though. I've been staying with Safari but I'm thinking about using the new Firefox as my primary browser. - Karmavs, on 06/22/2008, -0/+7You know what? You're both wrong.
@Alpharuin: There is a single window mode, & @supermanred: it's far from being easily discoverable.
It is a hidden preference, and can be activated by typing "defaults write com.apple.Safari TargetedClicksCreateTabs -bool true" into the terminal. You'll also have to enable the 'open new links in tabs' preference mentioned above - estvir, on 06/23/2008, -0/+6There are no 'real' reports of Windows7, we know next to nothing but one of the things we do know is that's not different code, it's based on Vista.
- Karmavs, on 06/22/2008, -0/+6Yakuake? Meet Visor http://docs.blacktree.com/visor/visor
Katapult? Meet Quicksilver http://docs.blacktree.com/quicksilver/what_is_quic ... (which Katapult was extremely 'influenced' by.)
Both Free, both Open source, and both from Blacktree
As for Konqueror: Finder + Safari. You even get the same rendering engine (almost) - diggimator, on 06/23/2008, -0/+6I just checked the Engadget article again and still couldn't find the link you mentioned. Worst blog spam ever.
- mikephimikephi, on 06/22/2008, -1/+7Or it could just be that the U.S, Germany and Japan are the 3 biggest markets on earth, so therefore they are most likely to be privy to the information.
- d3nnisbest, on 06/23/2008, -1/+7Am I getting smarter or is Digg getting dumber?* This is a truly lame post. The Safari 4 beta has been out for a while now. Whooped-dee-do.
*Answer: Digg and I both get a little dumber every day. - meatmcguffin, on 06/22/2008, -2/+7Good job doing your homework there. Safari can use input managers that allow for plug-ins but with far greater reach than firefox extensions.
Also, there's a simbl plug-in called GreaseKit which allows for firefox-style extensions. - alapoet, on 06/22/2008, -12/+17It ain't over 'til it's over.
(Bench tests show Safari runs faster than Firefox.) - MacParrot, on 06/22/2008, -0/+5Sigh...OK, that's entirely plausible, but I still think it's weird that you spent that kind of money and wasn't aware of some of OS Xs limitations (which every OS has in one form or another).
I was being a dick and I apologize - digitalpencil, on 06/23/2008, -0/+5seconded. I really like Safari but I have to force quit it a lot due to hangs i think result from flash.
- gpinto, on 06/22/2008, -0/+5Engadget is not linking all screenshots but here they are:
http://www.apfeltalk.de/forum/snow-leopard-entwick ... - MacParrot, on 06/22/2008, -2/+7meh, a fox bursts into flame. Good for a few minutes of entertainment. Now a man being stalked, hunted, and then eviscerated by some jungle animal? Hours of fun.
- digitalpencil, on 06/23/2008, -0/+4ha ha ha.. u come up with that all on your own?
- TheAbsintheHare, on 06/23/2008, -0/+4OM NOM NOM NOMinal charges.
- digitalpencil, on 06/23/2008, -1/+5noobs who seem to be under the mistaken impression that this is yet another facebook clone..
"no i don't want to be your friend!!" - TheWorm, on 06/22/2008, -1/+5Obviously because he wants people to digg the story he submitted.
- PainToad, on 06/23/2008, -0/+4No Digg gets more mainstream everyday...and we get more noobs every day.
- BrendanSheehan, on 06/23/2008, -0/+4Sherlock is an English name.
- josereyes0, on 06/22/2008, -1/+5Saying the 'GUI' sucks without any specifics is unsubstantial. Give us specifics, I'm an Ubuntu fan, but I prefer Mac, I understand that Gnome is highly customizable, but for a heavy, every day Unix based OS user I find that OS X's current interface IS much more productive (with Quicksilver). It provides consistency, I like the fact that program preferences is always where I expect it to be. Also developing in Cocoa is a breeze, the SDK makes life extremely easy. One thing I will say is that Application distribution and updating is superior in Ubuntu but outside of that it falls short.

If you can't see any differences graphically between tiger and leopard then you either have never seen tiger, never seen leopard, or need glasses.
try the dock, menu bar, darker windows, coverflow, more unified interface, overall darker scheme. - dignick, on 06/22/2008, -2/+5The difference is OS X has a good feature set and is ahead of windows in many respects, and those features are now being improved by improving performance. Vista is behind in features and performance, so while it shouldn't really matter if Windows 7 looks the same (I think Vista looks pretty good) it needs to have new features as well as stability in order to keep up, of which yet I have not seen. That is why screenshots of Windows 7 are a disappointment to me.
- Icebox3, on 06/23/2008, -0/+3Leopard looks nothing like Vista you moron.
- MtheoryX, on 06/22/2008, -1/+4A few featured added [confirmed since im running Snow Leopard Client and Server] :
-Exchange support in Mail, iCal, and Address Book
-Podcast Capture (Client) utility updated for revamped Podcast Producer (Server)
-Yes, it looks the same. They don't do GUI stuff till the end.
That's all i have played with so far; will provide more news on Tuesday when I'm back in the office. - Radan, on 06/22/2008, -1/+4I'd say Snow Leopard will be the biggest update since the update from 10.0 to 10.1. Adding another feature is nothing compared to pretty rewriting the entire OS, optimising every single line of code and making it easier than ever for developer to make fully optimised apps.
Sure, in the eyes of the average user, there won't be that much differences, why it's going to be hard to sell. Though, you will most likely feel the difference with both the current apps and especially the coming ones. - eldridgea, on 06/23/2008, -1/+4All I can say is, as the Apple equivalent to a Microsoft Service Pack, - this thing better be free!
- h3xley, on 06/22/2008, -2/+5>active applications icon being changed mostly just because they can?
Yes, applications being able to change their dock icons has no practical use whatsoever, like, say, showing the progress of a download, or how many unread messages are waiting....yup...none at all, pure eyecandy. - gpinto, on 06/22/2008, -1/+4The full list of screenshots as mentioned on Engadget...
